People post variations on the same theme again and again, almost as though they are trying to reaffirm their normalcy by locating their photos squarely in the realm of the average. This is particularly true for snapshots of China life, with the same (admittedly sometimes striking) images occurring repeatedly, reinforcing a narrow view of the country and its peculiarities. For those of us who have lived a while in Zhongguo, it’s become automatic to distinguish between what is truly unusual and what is merely the same old dross with a new filter slapped on top. But for people abroad or those who are new arrivals, it’s easy to develop tunnel vision, seeing only a fraction of the cultural uniqueness that is on display In Guangzhou, a bottle daily. Our first objective was to unveil the Xiangqiuqieke massif 5,700 – 5,800 meters from the southern side, and then to travel through the heart of the Litang Plateau from west to east by 10 days horse caravan crossing two high passes 4,800 – 5,100 meters. We had soon to get to know, however, our prospect went wrong. We could not enter a valley to the southern side of the mountains massif because of unfriendly and hostile Tibetan inhabitants in the valley. The caravan through the Litang Plateau could also not organized because a nomads chief refused to provide us with horses and muleteers as no villagers wanted to go to a distant place from their home tents even if they were paid enough money. Paradox of Development – frontiers becoming inaccessible Twenty years have already lapsed since I had started my Odyssey of discovery to the borderlands of West China in 1990. Rapid and drastic changes have taken place during the two decades. When I think of those days 20 years ago, I feel as if I were living in a different world.

In order to increase the service capacity efficiency on check-in, security checks, and customs clearance, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications R.O.C. (MOTC), Taiwan, rerouted the airport traffic flow by implementing the in-town check-in (ITCI) concept to decrease crowding in the airport waiting hall. This research examined the structure of critical success factors (CSFs) for ITCIs, deriving three hierarchies of three dimensions, eight criteria, and 18 evaluation indexes from the previous literature, expert interviews, and analysis results from Analytic Network Process (ANP) via Super Decisions software. The three CSF dimensions were: first- level hierarchy “advantageous environments,” followed by “marketing” and “service value,” which is a second-level hierarchy. The study concluded that the third level item of “transferred vehicles system and management” can play an important key role in ITCTs and “users’ usage preference” has a high correlation to ITCT management strategy.
