We’ve got some great classes for you; we have classes tailored for all age groups, starting at age 3, as well as our “Kids Night Out” classes for the Future Chefs. We DO NOT use any peanut/ nut products in our recipes, however we do use products that may be made in a factory where those products are made. ON SWEDISH DISHES AND THEIR TRANSLATED NAMES IN THE POLISH EMIL OF LÖNNEBERGA Abstract: This article starts with a short overview of the fundamental role played by food in children’s literature. The motif of food can convey deep psychological as well as philosophical meanings, and Astrid Lindgren made use of it with various purposes in mind: symbolical, comical, anti-didactic or educational. The main analysis is limited to the Polish translation of the name of one dish in the old Swedish cuisine – palt – which appears in different contexts in Astrid Lindgren’s trilogy about Emil of Lönneberga. Keywords: food, Swedish palt, children’s literature, didacticism, Astrid Lindgren, cultural translation In children’s literature the motif of food and broadly understood cooking has always occupied a major position. It may be simply explained as an expression of greed that is typical of many children, or as a manifestation of an obvious human pleasure derived from food, to which the young can totally abandon themselves, especially when it comes to sweets. A frequent reappearance of this motif, however, may also be viewed from a broader perspective, with regard to its origins and a deeper psychological, socio- logical and even philosophical meaning. Maria Nikolayeva (1999) interprets the motif of food in children’s lit- erature as a continuation of the reformulated rite of passage characteristic of myths and folktales. The hero is often eaten or, once he is resurrected to a new life, he frequently consumes ritual food as part of the initiation process.

(THE PHYSICS OF CHINESE CUISINE) Some physical aspects of Chinese cuisine are discussed. We start from the cultural and historical particularities of Chinese cuisine and their food production technolo- gies. What is the difference between raw and boiled meat? What is the difference in the physical processes of heat transfer during either the steaming of dumplings or during cooking them in boiling water? Why is it possible to cook meat stripes in a "hot pot" in ten seconds, whilst baking a turkey requires several hours? This article is devoted to a discussion of these questions. Keywords: complex organic molecules, proteins, damplings, heat transfer, temper- ature conductivity, Fourier law, Newton’s law of cooling Globalization, which is rapidly taking place throughout the world, is vividly manifested by the ubiquitous availability of dishes of various cuisines from all over the world. Of course, as a rule, these have only some semblance of the true masterpieces of culinary art: in addition to the skill of the cook, the creation of the latter requires the corresponding products. As our familiar Italian gastronomic critic, Sergio Grasso, says, "food does not go to a person, this person should travel to food." Chinese cuisine is one of the richest and most interesting cuisines in the world. Here everything, or, well, almost everything, can be eaten. And the ways of cooking are very different. One of the authors (AV) had a chance during a visit to Shanghai to open a small door into this wide world and, under the guidance of the two other authors, make some first steps in it, being interested not only in the exotic tastes but also in the underlying unusual physical processes.

    Acta Baltico-Slavica, 40 Warszawa 2016 DOI: 10.11649/abs.2016.004 Brigita Bušmane Latvian Language Institute of the University of Latvia Riga Slavic Loanwords in the Terms for Dumplings in Latvian1 Food is an important part of the material heritage of any nation – it preserves old ethnic traditions as well as shows foreign influences of different periods. This article is looking at a specific group of Latvian culinary terminology – the words denoting different kinds of dumplings. This dish and its place in Latvian culinary tradition have been noted by ethnographers when describing the typical Latvian foods of the 19th century: “In the 19th century, a milk soup with dumplings was cooked more often than a homogenous milk and flour gruel. It was mostly made from barley flour, but in the late 19th century and early 20th century a dumpling soup made from wheat flour became more popular. Initially, it was cooked for special occasions – Sunday meals, celebrations, arrival of guests, but later became a more or less everyday food” (Dumpe, 1998, pp. 165–166). Baltic German aristocracies in Latvia, as well as city people, were acquainted with dumpling dishes already before 19th century. It is proved by culinary literature (e.g., a Latvian cookbook of 1796, meant for cooks working for Baltic Germans (quoted in Dumpe, 1998, p. 169), as well as dictionary data. As observed by ethnographers, by the mid­20th century dumplings was a typical dish both – in Latvian cities and countryside (Krastiņa, 1969, p. 472). However, as food industry and shop network developed, country people began using more and more ready­made foods.

Moreover, the cuisine of the Podhale Region was presented with its specialities, as well as the potential use of Polish regional cuisine in tourism to make it a tourist attraction, which may be of major importance for individual region or locality. It causes that a certain dish becomes identified with specific place, which attracts tourists to this region. Traditional dishes reflect also the customs prevalent in the given area; therefore a tourist may acquire information about the culture of the places he visits.     THE TM 911 Franklin Street Weekly Newspaper Michigan City, IN 46360 Volume 23, Number 39 Thursday, October 4, 2007 Jumping Off Point by Barbara Stodola In Ogden Dunes, Ski Hill Road is more than a chi chi name for a residential road that climbs up a perilously steep dune. Ski Hill Road marks the spot where international tourna- ments took place 80 years ago, on one of the tallest ski jumps in the United States. What remains today are half-hidden remnants of the con- crete supporting piers, and a cluster of masonry cottages with French casement windows and sloping roofs, like you might have seen in 1920s-era Alpine villages. Ken Martin, president of the Ogden Dunes Historical Soci- ety, feels the interest in this bit of history is strong enough to warrant an annual tour of homes. This year’s tour, acclaimed “a great success,” was augmented by a nicely researched bro- chure done by Richard Meister, a retired De Paul University history professor, who follows in the footsteps of Ogden Dunes’ original residents. The earliest persons to settle on Ski Hill Road, Meister re- ports, were school teachers, artists, university professors and nature-lovers, who built modest summer cottages in the 1930s. But even before that time, the spectacular dune had been dis- covered by ski enthusiasts from Chicago, many of whom were Norwegian-Americans. They formed the Ogden Dunes Ski Club and in January, 1928, held the fi rst of fi ve annual inter- national tournaments. The Ogden Dunes ski meets, advertised on South Shore Railroad posters, attracted thousands of spectators.

Dziennie Zakład Mięsny „Wierzejki” produkuje około 80 ton elementów wieprzowych i wołowych oraz wyrobów przetworzonych (mięsnych i garmażeryjnych). Oferta „Wierzejek” to: • mięso wieprzowe w postaci półtusz oraz całego asortymentu elementów wieprzowych, takich jak schab, szynka, karkówka, łopatka, itd. • mięso wołowe w postaci półtusz i ćwierci wołowych oraz elementów wołowych: pistole wołowe, rostbef, antrykot, polędwica, mięso z udźca • tradycyjne polskie wędliny - szynki, wędzonki, kiełbasy i inne Nasz zakład surowiec pozyskuje z terenu Podlasia i Lubelszczyzny, które uchodzą za jedne z najczystczych ekologicznie w Europie.
