The Historical Performance movement began as a revolution: a reimagining of musical conventions, a rediscovery of instruments, techniques, and artworks that inspire and teach us, and a celebration of diversity in repertoire. It is also a conversation with the past, a past whose legacy of racism and colonialism has silenced and excluded too many voices from being heard. We do not seek simply to recreate what might have been but to imagine what should be. We embrace Juilliard's values of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging through voices heard anew and historical works presented with empathetic perspectives, and we reject discrimination, exclusion, and marginalization. We recognize that we study and work on the traditional homeland of those who preceded us (see Juilliard's land acknowledgement statement, below).

  • The Birth of the Municipality of Ramallah, Which Is Now Celebrating Its Centennial Anniversary, Was in the Year 1908
The birth of the Municipality of Ramallah, which is now celebrating its centennial anniversary, was in the year 1908. The Centennial Celebration will not only be limited to the Municipality but will extend to include the whole of the city, whose age is much greater. The Ramallah Municipality Centennial Project 2008-2010 The birth of the Municipality of Ramallah, which is now celebrating its centennial anniversary, was in the year 1908. The centennial celebration will not only be limited to the municipality but will extend to include the whole of the city, whose age is much greater. The municipal council recognised that its centennial could be an opportunity to highlight the city of Ramallah as a distinct Palestinian city – politically, economically, and culturally – and to invite tourism and investors. Work on the Municipality of Ramallah Centennial Project began with efforts to put the city on the world map. To achieve the goal of transforming Ramallah into a model city in the region, and a city of international calibre, it was imperative that Ramallah experiences a comprehensive renaissance. This renaissance intersects with the overall development plan of the Palestinian National Authority and serves to revive a city that has been deteriorating due to the effects of more than forty years of occupation. To achieve the dream, the municipality created a vision that addresses several tracks and covers all aspects of life. Each track includes ambitious projects and Programs that aim to transform Ramallah into a world-class city with distinction. This effort is closely linked to the municipality’s three- year strategic plan (2008–2010).

  • Gary Numan - Hammersmith Apollo, London - November 28, 2014
1 Gary Numan - Hammersmith Apollo, London - November 28, 2014 by Mireille Beaulieu Original French version © Obsküre magazine - http://www.obskuremag.net http://www.obskuremag.net/articles/gary-numan-live-hammersmith-apollo-londres- 28112014/ Gary Numan’s recent concert at London’s Hammersmith Apollo had long been announced as a major event. This show was the crowning moment of the world tour Numan had undertaken in October 2013, as he was promoting his new album Splinter (Songs from a broken mind ). Undoubtedly one of the artist’s major works, Splinter garnered unparalleled public and critical acclaim. It even entered the UK Top 20 – the first Numan album to do so since Warriors in 1983. Gary Numan started this long tour in the US before visiting the UK, Ireland, Israel, continental Europe (but sadly not Paris), Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Photos: Louise Barnes and Jim Napier © Jim Napier 2 But it was also a “homecoming concert”, a return to his roots for Numan, who currently resides in Los Angeles. For the first time since 1996, he was to take over the Hammersmith Apollo, the legendary UK venue formerly known as the Hammersmith Odeon. This is where David Bowie killed off his Ziggy Stardust character in 1973... Around the same period, a teenage Gary (then still Gary Webb) would often attend gigs there. Then, with the explosion of the Numan phenomenon in 1979, the “Hammy” became for many years the London venue of his choice when he was touring. Gary, who was born in Hammersmith, obviously has a deep connection with the place.
