“Checking Out” The Carnegie Public Library The writer Virginia Woolf once observed that libraries are full of “sunken treas - ure.” Hoping to renew that kind of interest in language and literature, two Har - rold faculty members, Mrs. Tammy Sige and Mrs. Janine Hays, spent the day circulating among the stacks and stacks of resources at the Carnegie Public Library with several members of the eighth grade. It was a trip that was long overdue for Mrs. Sige’s and Mrs. Hays’ WIRC (Westmoreland Interscholastic Reading Competition) members, and it was a trip met with unabridged en - thusiasm. The students enjoyed “checking out” not only the large variety of books the library has to offer, but also the catalog of other attractions: the building’s stunning architecture, the impressive teenage reader’s section, and the heralded artifact’s room, where the group saw an original, signed work by Robert Frost! The students completed the tour and visit of the Carnegie Public Library by participating in a scavenger hunt in the teenage section of the library. Volumes of fun were had by all.
