Welcome one and all to Moon Park for tonight's game. This evening we entertain Shaftesbury Town from the Premier Wessex League, in the Sydenham's Wessex League Cup. Last Saturday we had a disappointing result in the FA CUP against high flying Sholing. We gave as good as we got, for most of the game, but in the end were down to ten men and Sholing just nicked the victory 1-0. To be fair, they had the lions share of the chances, but we had opportunities that unfortunately we did not take. It was, however, a fast and entertaining game with end to end football. We hope to bounce back tonight against Shaftesbury, who will undoubtedly give us a run for our money. I expect another end to end affair this evening with no quarter taken in this cup round! Please adhere to our Covid 19 social distancing rules. Enjoy the game and stay safe. Cheers Steve Slade Chairman IANSAUNDERS Sus share his thoughts ahead of tonight’s League Cup game vs Shaftesbury. I would like to extend a warm welcome to Danny, his staff and players and everyone involved with Shaftesbury FC to Moon Park today for our Wessex League Cup tie. Shaftesbury have made fantastic steps in recent years and a lot of credit should given to their chairman and committee for the huge strides that they have made. Reflecting on Last Saturday, needless to say we were gutted with the result, but I have to say we were also hugely proud of the performance. It was another hard game that became almost impossible once we were reduced to 10 men, but the shape was good and the tenacity of the squad was great, although we just didn’t get the chance to get an equaliser. I will say this again, but we will need to keep all of our players on the pitch in this game if we hope to compete!! Tonight will be another huge challenge against Premier division opposition, with a hugely experienced gaffer. Finally I would like to thank ALL of the club sponsors and committee members for their hard work, commitment and their generosity during these unprecedented COVID times. Thanks again and enjoy the game. Under 6 through to our men's senior teams. PENPICS Management Team Ian Saunders (Manager) - The gaffer was in the hot seat at a previous club that won Wessex Division 1 and then the following year won the Premier Division as well, ensuring Southern League football for the first time for that particular club. A couple of seasons managing within the Southern League followed, but work demands meant that local football was back on the cards. The gaffer took the position just as relegation loomed, but he has ambitious plans to take the Harlequins to a level they have never seen before!! Jamie Cotton (Assistant Manager) - Jam has an excellent reputation in the local area. He has previously worked with the gaffer at other clubs and it was a no brainer for the two men to be reunited. Jam is an excellent acquisition for the Harlequins. Danny Proctor (Coach) - Danny, a serving officer in the British Army, had a long and distinguished military footballing career, playing for the British Army and the Combined Service football teams. This is Danny's first venture into coaching a civilian club, but he is already hugely respected. Being fit as a fiddle, Danny is an invaluable member of the coaching team. Jimmy Richardson (Goalkeeper Coach) - Jimmy is another serving Warrant Officer within the British Army. He also assists the gaffer with their other representative team, the Royal Artillery FC. Jimmy is a real players favourite and keeps the Harlequins goalkeepers in top condition. A thankless task at times, but Jimmy is another invaluable member of the coaching team. Mark Lewis (Sports Therapist) - Lewey is a former Royal Artillery soldier who has served with the gaffer for 20+ years. His expertise on the treatment table have ensured that players with slight 'niggles' have returned to playing sooner than normally expected. He is qualified in a number of 'therapy' practices and has become a trusted and valuable member of the staff. Playing Staff Patrick Creese (Goalkeeper) – Paddy is an excellent young shot stopper. Born and bred locally, Paddy has spent his early years at Amesbury Town, before making the switch to the Harlequins in 2019. Scott Hassell (Defender) – Hass has had a good career including a long stint playing Ryman League football before moving to the local area. He is a mobile centre half who has a good knack of scoring important goals. George Plank (Defender) – George is a former Swindon Town youth product and is also a very keen futsal player. Planky has filled in at either full back position who enjoys not only defending but also joining in further up the pitch. PENPICS Charlie Rayfield (Defender) – Charlie is another product of the Salisbury FC conveyor belt, he has played a good number of Southern Premier league fixtures. The Rayman is an excellent defender who can also get forward and deliver crosses of good quality. Another 20 year old who has a huge future in front of him. Jack Smith (Defender) – Jack is a no nonense defender who thrives on doing his job!! Jack has huge experience for one so young and we feel he is a real coup for the Harlequins. McAulie Stubbs (Defender) – Stubbsy was a last minute signing, before the 'season that never was' became null and void. In 90 minutes he proved to be exactly the sort of player that the Harlequins supporters will enjoy watching. Committed and wholehearted he also has good vision, whilst maintaining his defensive work firt and foremost.
