Toch zijn veel boeken die politiek als onderwerp hebben inderdaad saai om te lezen. Journal of European Integration History Revue D
JOURNAL OF EUROPEAN INTEGRATION HISTORY REVUE D’HISTOIRE DE L’INTÉGRATION EUROPÉENNE ZEITSCHRIFT FÜR GESCHICHTE DER EUROPÄISCHEN INTEGRATION edited by the Groupe de liaison des professeurs d’histoire contemporaine auprès de la Commission européenne 2003, Volume 9, Number 2 The Hague Summit of 1969 The Liaison Committee of Historians came into being in 1982 as a result of an important international symposium that the Commission had organized in Luxembourg to launch historical research on Euro- pean integration. The committee is composed of historians of the European Union member countries who work on contemporary history. The Liaison Committee: – gathers and conveys information about work on European history after the Second World War; – advises the European Union on research projects concerning contemporary European history. Thus, the Liaison Committee was commissioned to make publicly available the archives of the Community institutions; – enables researchers to make better use of the archival sources; – promotes research meetings to get an update of work in progress and to stimulate new research: seven research conferences have been organized and their proceedings published. The Journal of European Integration History – Revue d’histoire de l’intégration européenne – Zeitschrift für Geschichte der europäischen Integration is in line with the preoccupations of the Liaison Committee. Being the first history journal to deal exclusively with the history of European Integration, the Journal offers the increasing number of young historians devoting their research to contemporary Europe, a permanent forum. The Liaison Committee is supported by the European Commission, but works completely independ- ently and according to historians’ critical method. -

1 BOERMA, Addeke Hendrik, Dutch agronomist and first Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) 1962-1967 and fifth Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) 1968-1975, was born 3 April 1912 in Anlo, The Netherlands and passed away 8 May 1992 in Vienna, Austria. He was the son of Harm Boerma, farmer, and Janke Wilkens. On 1 August 1935 he married Maretta Gerardina Hendrica Postuma, correspondent, with whom he had three daughters. After their divorce on 10 January 1953 he married Dinah Johnston, FAO employee, on 13 April 1953. Source: FAO Boerma grew up on a medium-sized farm in the north-eastern part of The Netherlands. Both his grandfather and father were elected to the Provincial Parliament of Drenthe, where they promoted farm cooperatives and social welfare measures. In 1929 Boerma entered Wageningen Agricultural University to study horticulture and agricultural economics, where he graduated as an agricultural engineer in 1934, having written two theses, one on soft fruit and the other on intensification and rationalization in Dutch fruit growing. He ranked in the top-five of a class of 105. For his military service, partly fulfilled during his studies, he was trained as an officer. By the end of 1934 he became secretary of a provincial farmers organization led by Stefan Louwes, who the government had also made responsible for implementing an agricultural crisis law. Boerma travelled across the province of Overijssel to advise farmers about agriculture in times of crisis and setting up farm cooperatives, agricultural schools and insurance services. -

Personalization of Political Newspaper Coverage: a Longitudinal Study in the Dutch Context Since 1950
Personalization of political newspaper coverage: a longitudinal study in the Dutch context since 1950 Ellis Aizenberg, Wouter van Atteveldt, Chantal van Son, Franz-Xaver Geiger VU University, Amsterdam This study analyses whether personalization in Dutch political newspaper coverage has increased since 1950. In spite of the assumption that personalization increased over time in The Netherlands, earlier studies on this phenomenon in the Dutch context led to a scattered image. Through automatic and manual content analyses and regression analyses this study shows that personalization did increase in The Netherlands during the last century, the changes toward that increase however, occurred earlier on than expected at first. This study also shows that the focus of reporting on politics is increasingly put on the politician as an individual, the coverage in which these politicians are mentioned however became more substantive and politically relevant. Keywords: Personalization, content analysis, political news coverage, individualization, privatization Introduction When personalization occurs a focus is put on politicians and party leaders as individuals. The context of the news coverage in which they are mentioned becomes more private as their love lives, upbringing, hobbies and characteristics of personal nature seem increasingly thoroughly discussed. An article published in 1984 in the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf forms a good example here, where a horse race betting event, which is attended by several ministers accompanied by their wives and girlfriends is carefully discussed1. Nowadays personalization is a much-discussed phenomenon in the field of political communication. It can simply be seen as: ‘a process in which the political weight of the individual actor in the political process increases 1 Ererondje (17 juli 1984). -

Health Council of the Netherlands Treating the effects of child abuse Gezondheidsraad Health Council of the Netherlands To the State Secretary of Health, Welfare and Sport Subject : presentation of advisory report Treating the effects of child abuse Your reference : JZ/JJ-2983817 Our reference : I-413/10/VR/cn/855-B Enclosure(s) : 1 Date : June 28, 2011 Dear State Secretary, I hereby submit the advisory report entitled Treating the effects of child abuse, which was requested by the former Minister for Youth and Families in a request for advice dated 17 February 2010. I have also sent a copy of this advisory report to the Minister of Security and Justice, for information purposes. Every year in the Netherlands, an estimated 100,000 children are abused or neglected, some of whom suffer serious psychological damage. In recent years, much has been done to improve the prevention, detection, and reporting of child abuse. This has led to greater awareness about the seriousness, complexity, and scope of this major social problem. However, there must be a much greater awareness of this issue before we can even start work on a solution. This advisory report addresses the next step: treating the effects of child abuse. The Committee has been forced to conclude that only a few types of evidence-supported treatment are available. This issue is not restricted to the Netherlands, it is a worldwide problem. The fragmentation of care, however, is a Dutch problem. This stands in the way of an integrated approach to the diagnosis and treatment of children, families, and adults who were abused during childhood. -
