Introduction Celebrity is much written about by social theorists (McNamara, 2009; Ferri, 2010; Lawler, 2010) and as such there are many taxonomies of celebrity, which Turner (2010) discusses at length. The concept that celebrity is a ‘cultural formation that has a social function’ (Turner, 2010:11), and the contemporary significance of celebrity itself remains a key topic for debate (Couldry and Markham, 2007). Celebrities are considered as role models for millions of people, especially younger citizens (Couldry and Markham, 2007), who are the focus of this study. Pringle (2004:3) suggests that ‘celebrity sells’, and outlines the extent to which society becomes influenced by these figures due to their prevalence in everyday life. Becoming well-known public figures, where they have adversaries as well as fans (Henderson, 2011) celebrities have attracted significant literature, which is split on their benefit and detriment to society (Couldry and Markham, 2007). -

We identify seven distinct culinary personas: homebody, home stylist, pin-up, chef- artisan, maverick, gastrosexual, and self-made man. We find that culinary personas are highly gendered, but also classed and racialized. Relating these findings to the broader culinary field, we suggest that celebrity chef personas may serve to naturalize status inequities, and our findings contribute to theories of cultural, culinary and gender stratification. This paper supports the use of ‘‘persona’’ as an analytical tool that can aid understanding of cultural inequalities, as well as the limited opportunities for new entrants to gain authority in their respective fields. -

Beard nurtured a genera- tion of American chefs and cookbook authors who have changed the way we eat. James Andrew Beard was born on May 5, 1903, in Portland, Oregon, to Elizabeth and John Beard. His mother, an independent English woman passionate about food, ran a boarding house. His father worked at Portland’s Customs House. The family spent summers at the beach at Gearhart, Oregon, fishing, gathering shellfish and wild berries, and cooking meals with whatever was caught. He studied briefly at Reed College in Portland in 1923, but was expelled. Reed claimed it was due to poor scholastic performance, but Beard maintained it was due to his homosexuality. Beard then went on the road with a theatrical troupe. He lived abroad for several years study- ing voice and theater but returned to the United States for good in 1927. Although he kept trying to break into the theater and movies, by 1935 he needed to supplement what was a very non-lucra- Biography tive career and began a catering business. It was here where he began to show his creative talents, and exceptional culinary skills learned under the ProStart curriculum in high school. Chef Max’s passion and talent for cooking allowed him to matriculate to Johnson & Wales University in Miami, where he expanded on his culinary training. While in college and determined to follow his passion for becoming a world-class chef, Max tapped into his entrepreneurial spirit and started his culinary enterprise - Chef Max Miami. His company specialized in recipes ranging from American, Kosher, French, Asian, to Caribbean cuisine. It’s no surprise Chef Max Miami became a huge success in such a short time. In 2016, lured by the growing reports of Detroit’s comeback, Chef Max left New York City and returned to his hometown Detroit. By 2017 he began work on opening his first restaurant The River Bistro – on Detroit’s westside in the Grandmont-Rosedale neighborhood. In 2018 the Detroit Free Press named River Bistro to its coveted “Top 10 Best New Restaurants” to open in Metro Detroit. Six months following his success at River Bistro, Chef Max began work on his second restaurant COOP Detroit – a fast-casual Caribbean fusion restaurant located inside Detroit Shipping Co. – a food hall constructed from 32 former shipping containers located in Detroit’s Midtown community. -

Marina Bay Sands to progressively re-open celebrity chef and signature restaurants for dine-in from 27 June IR-operated restaurants will re-open with enhanced hygiene measures; brand new Gourmet Takeaway platform launches on 4 July Singapore (23 June 2020) – Following the re-opening of The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands last Friday (19 June 2020), the iconic integrated resort (IR) is set to progressively restart operations across its celebrity chef and signature restaurants from Saturday, 27 June 2020. The first round of openings will see the return of five restaurants located at the mall – namely Black Tap, Bread Street Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay, CUT by Wolfgang Puck, Mott 32 and Yardbird Southern Table & Bar – with the rest to progressively re-open in July. In addition to dine-in, the five restaurants will be offering more than 120 of their greatest hits and signature cuisine through a brand new Gourmet Takeaway platform launching on 4 July 2020. This platform will launch in phases in line with the restaurants’ gradual re-opening, and feature more than 260 dishes from across 12 celebrity chef and signature restaurants when complete. Jonathan Scinto Is a Chef, TV Personality, Spokesman and Host from Long Island, N.Y
Jonathan Scinto is a Chef, TV Personality, Spokesman and Host from Long Island, N.Y. He was born to an Italian Jewish family in Queens, New York. While, most toddlers were watching Sesame Street, Jonathan watched Julia Child, Emeril Live and Iron Chef Showdown in Japanese with his mother Alison. She allowed Jonathan to experiment in the kitchen using the blender to make crazy concoctions, scrambling eggs on the floor and even practicing his knife technique on his parent’s new vinyl chairs. The love of food was evident to his mom and dad. The Long Island native utilizes rustic Italian flavors and Asian influences to create what Chef Jonathan calls “Itasian”, a fusion of Italian and Asian cuisines. When Newsday asked Chef Jonathan about his cooking style, he told the journalist that he relies on his design knowledge to create plates of art work. “You eat with your eyes, then your mouth, so it’s important to grab your attention at first site then first bite, I don’t believe in using pre-made ingredients, I use only the freshest herbs and spices for my clients to achieve my #boldassflavors” and plates of art. After graduating college with a BFA degree from NYIT, Jonathan was hired by Post Perfect to work in their Catering/Client Services department working with such A-list clients like, HBO's Sopranos, Sex & the City, Back Street Boys, O-Town, Mariah Carey, Linkin Park and Alicia Keys. In the early 2000’s, Jonathan opened a café with his father on L.I, which was one of the 1st to focus on scratch made ingredients with a farm to table approach.
