AIDS Action and Research Group (AARG) CALENDAR IAMD 2011 Since its inception in 1994, the AIDS Action and Research Group (AARG) of Universiti Sains Malaysia has 13 May 2011 defined itself as a bastion of research, training and outreach in the northern area of Peninsular Malaysia. Comprised of academic staff from various academic specializations, AARG’s activities in the years 2010/2011 saw major milestones in the Group’s activities. Leading the way with research in the psychosocial impact of HIV/AIDS within the MSM community, women and children AARG also researched the level of knowledge of HIV/AIDS among students of higher institutions of learning in the northern region. AARG continues to strengthen its work in the area of outreach to Injecting Drug Users (IDU) via its Needle and Syringe Exchange Program (NSEP) both on the island and mainland. In 2010 AARG ran three training workshops: “MSM and HIV/AIDS”; “Women and HIV/AIDS” and “Counselling and HIV/AIDS”. The success of these workshops have spurred AARG to conduct the workshop “Sexuality and HIV/AIDS” in March of this year. Continuous efforts in education see volunteers and interns of AARG visiting secondary schools and conducting exhibitions on the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
