At Braintree Sixth Form, we aim to support students in their transition from Year 11 school students to adults who are well prepared for the next stage of their lives, whether this is further study at university, an apprenticeship or employment. The wide range of educational experiences Ms Catherine Dunton and preparation offered to you as part of your sixth form Head of Sixth Form career are intended to give you the opportunities and support you need to become an independent, outward- looking and resilient learner in your adult life. Making the most of the opportunities that Braintree Sixth Form offers you will involve the following: excellent attendance and punctuality, personal organisation, a commitment to the sixth form code of conduct, and aiming for the highest standards in your work. There is a wide range of staff in Braintree Sixth Form who are here to support you during the two years of your studies with us. The timings of the day for sixth form students are: 8.50am - 9.50am Period 1 9.50am - 10.50am Period 2 10.50am - 11.15pm Break 11.15am - 12.15pm Period 3 12.15pm - 1.15pm Period 4 1.15pm - 2.15pm Lunch/Tutor Time 2.15pm - 3.15pm Period 5 3.15pm - 4.15pm Period 6 (Mon & Thurs only) Sixth Form Key Dates and Events 2021/22 Students will be made aware of all key dates and events via a weekly bulletin from sixth form, they will also be able to access information on the website: https://www.braintreesixthform.com The sixth form operates on a two-week cycle, with the weeks identified as A and B. It is important that students are aware of when each timetable week is operating. On INSET/Staff Training days no sixth form teaching takes place. You are strongly advised to check with your child’s school before making any holiday or other commitments. “Working together, achieving together” Braintree Sixth Form Prospectus 2021-22 7 Communications Sixth Form Communications with Students • Our main method of communicating with students is by email via the Braintree Sixth Form email address which all students are given. Staff will expect to be contacted by students via email and their email address is in the format of [email protected] • Weekly briefings containing reminders of key dates, updates on events and other relevant information are sent out to all students and parents/carers for whom we have email addresses. All students should read the student briefing which is issued by email on Friday of each week. This is emailed to students and is available on SharePoint. • Another key means of communication is the website which we update regularly, www. braintreesixthform.com • Assemblies are held regularly as part of the Personal Development programme and these are used to ensure that students have information and reminders about upcoming events.

Are we any good • I would say, yes we are! • What evidence to I have to show this tonight? Hopefully the following things. Exam Outcomes • Pass rate of over 94% was achieved at A*-E grades for all A levels sat here last year. • 39% of the A level results achieved were the highest grades => A*- B. • 67% of the A level grades were at A* - C. When comparing results with last year. A Level 2017 A level 2018 35% A*- B grades 39% A* - B grades 62% A*- C grades 68% A* - C grades Progression Routes - University • 84 students left us to go onto university last year • 84 students applied to go so 100% of our university applicants were successful in accessing university placements this year. Progression Routes - University • 77% of our students got their first choice course at their first choice institution. • Only 4 % of our students needed to use the clearing service to get a university placement.     What is Mid Essex ITT? Mid Essex is a school-based Initial Teacher Training scheme. This means that you will undertake most of your training within a school environment. We will train you to teach at secondary school level. Tell me about the course.... • There is a combination of school based training & provider-led training • You will spend Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in your school • General Professional Studies takes place every Thursday morning • Subject Professional Studies takes place every Thursday afternoon • You will train in two different schools • You will have a visit to a primary school • You will also visit a special school • Support of at least three different mentors How long is the course? One year. The course will start the first week of September 2017 and will run until 30th June 2018. The course is full-time and you will need to be available Monday-Friday during term-time. What qualification will I get at the end? If you successfully complete the course, you will be awarded Qualified Teacher Status or “QTS”. Fee-paying trainees also work towards a Professional Graduate Certificate of Education (ProfGCE). Our ProfGCE is accredited by the University of Greenwich. Is QTS of equal value to a PGCE? QTS is the professional qualification that is required to teach in state schools in England and Wales. However, regulations vary in different countries – some insist on the academic qualification of PGCE. If you intend to teach abroad you should check the regulations in the relevant country. Both routes are equally promoted and valued and we have found that schools will want to employ great teachers regardless.
