Members are parties having a business interest in or with the European petrochemical industry. To that effect EPCA offers and provides the logistics as well as substance for : A quality platform to meet. This is implemented via : • the EPCA Annual Meeting organized for EPCA members; • the organization of seminars, round table sessions, working groups, think tanks and such other activities as decided upon by the EPCA Board and organized for EPCA members and stakeholders. A platform for communication, exchange of information, think tank, as well as transfer of learning between members and stakeholders. EPCA in this connection works on increasing its visibility via the web, co-operation with the press, newsletters, publications and other communication tools. EPCA is a service provider for its members, driven by customer satisfaction. Company member representatives participate in the Board, Supply Chain Program Committee, think tanks and working groups in accordance with the EPCA statutes. In order to optimize resources and avoid overlap EPCA co-ordinates its activities with Cefic, APPE, Plastics Europe and other industry associations like AFPM, APLA, APIC and GPCA. Through its activities EPCA endeavors to contribute to the improvement of the public image of the chemical industry but EPCA is not a lobby body nor involved in lobby activities. Lobbying is explicitly excluded from the EPCA statutes. EPCA and its members are committed to strict competition law compliance, not only to ensure that every EPCA activity complies with the law, but also that there can be no misunderstanding about such activities. For example, EPCA is providing its members a check list for meetings (Do’s and don’t’s) reminding them of the importance of compliance with the competition law. EPCA Mission Offer our members a unique global network and a platform in Europe to meet, communicate, exchange information and transfer learning. 2011 Initiate, facilitate and promote ideas and projects that challenge “business as usual” approaches and that are of interest to the long term sustainable development of the petrochemical industry, ANNUAL REPORT its business partners and service providers. EPCA 3 Report of the Board of Directors Dear reader, 2011 will be remembered as a year of turmoil with the collapse of political R regimes in certain Middle East countries under an internet-initiated movement currently qualified as the “Arab Spring”, with extreme weather conditions adversely affecting the Japanese, and, as a consequence thereof, the whole global nuclear energy sector as well as its likely future development and, last but not least, with the financial difficulties pushing the “Euro” zone over and above a monetary union approach. 2011 bookmarked the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) as well as the 45th anniversary of EPCA. IYC created a worldwide platform where a multitude of partners, such as chemical companies, could celebrate their achievements and prepare for the future. EPCA used this IYC platform to become a global IYC partner of the UNESCO and IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry), to raise the profile of the chemical industry among the general public and more specifically among youngsters aged between 16 and 21. The film “Chemistry : All About You” promotes the many contributions of chemistry to people’s daily lives. Since its successful launch on 27 January 2011 at the official opening of the IYC in Paris, the film has been distributed worldwide through the EPCA, UNESCO and IUPAC networks, sister associations, chemical federations and societies all over the world, non-profit, business and entertainment organizations, and many others. 132 EPCA member companies put the film on their website and used it for a variety of purposes. The film was also successfully distributed in the EPCA social media with more than 75,000 views alone on the EPCA YouTube channels. The film was shown at the IYC closing ceremony in Brussels in December 2011 and was, among many other initiatives, part of the Cefic exhibition event in Brussels in November 2011. To celebrate its 45th Anniversary and the IYC, EPCA developed an outdoor campaign in Brussels and Berlin to promote the said film on the occasion of its Annual Meeting. EPCA also contributed to building a bridge between the chemical industry and the educational world helping youngsters to potentially prepare for a future in chemistry. During its 2011 Annual Meeting EPCA organized a students’ workshop for award winning chemistry students from 10 European countries, Brazil, India, Russia, the USA, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. They participated in the EPCA Annual Meeting business sessions, networking and social activities and met with opinion makers in the chemical producers’ as well as service providers’ community to learn all about the industry, the attractive developments taking place and the potential career paths existing for them within both the chemical and logistics service providers segments. In order to further promote chemistry as a field of study among students aged 12 to 16, EPCA concluded a partnership with European Schoolnet (EUN). Purpose is to disseminate the EPCA film in schools in 11 European countries and to promote the guidelines developed for teachers by the European Schoolnet in coordination with EPCA to make chemistry more attractive to young scholars. 4 In the coming years, EPCA will continue its partnership with UNESCO, EUN and inGenious to promote chemistry as a field of study with youngsters. EPCA will do this, wherever possible, in coordination with its sister associations and, for Europe, with Cefic and its related associations. Sixty delegates attended the second EPCA Interactive Supply Chain workshop that took place in Brussels on 15 and 16 March 2011. The workshop addressed the “Internet of Things”, information sharing as well as management and building of sustainable supply chains. Usman Haque, of Pachube, and Jeroen Dijkxhoorn, of the SAS Institute, dealt with the Internet of Things and how a data overflow can be translated into viable business models. The impact of “green” end-consumer behavior was explained by Dave Meyer, of the Global Alliance. Prof. Martin Christopher, of Cranfield University, emphasized the need for building more responsive, flexible supply chains to deal with an increasingly volatile and risky environment commanding the selection of T-shape profile co-workers. Thomas Bergmark, former IKEA Sustainability Manager and currently advisor to Bergmark Sustainability, explained how sustainable retailing with focus on supply chain, both from a social, environmental and financial perspective, can deliver real business potential. The key learnings of this workshop were shown on screens in the Logistics Village at the 2011 EPCA Annual Meeting in Berlin.

Praise for Where Keynes Went Wrong “[An] impassioned . and . much needed book. In plain prose, . Hunter Lewis . begins by patiently walking us through precisely what Keynes said . then reveals why Keynes’s work is ‘remarkably unsupported by evidence or logic.’ Lewis does much more besides, showing how Keynesianism has lived in the minds and hearts of politicians, with disastrous results.” —Gene Epstein, Barron’s “Lewis has exposed with unmatched clarity the lineaments of Keynes’s system and enabled us to see exactly its disabling defects. Keynes defied common sense, unable to sustain the brilliant para- doxes that his fertile intellect constantly devised. Lewis’s book is an ideal guide to Keynes’s dangerous and destructive economics. .” —David Gordon, LewRockwell.com “Just what the world needs, and just in time. Keynes is demolished and his quack system refuted. But this wonderful book does more. It restores clear thinking and common sense to their rightful places in the economic policy debate. Three cheers for Hunter Lewis!” —James Grant, Editor of Grant’s Interest Rate Observer “Hunter Lewis has written a splendid book called Where Keynes We nt Wrong. The dissection of the English economist who died in 1946 is especially timely, given that the past two administra- tions and the current one are identical in believing wholeheart- edly in . key Keynesian dogma.” —Patrick McIlheran, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel “[This] compelling, powerful, and extremely readable book . is fantastic. ‘Must’ reading.” —Kevin Price, CBS and CNN Radio and BizPlusBlog “Lewis has done a service, even if in the negative, of concisely and critically summarizing Keynes’s economic theories, and his book will make readers think.” —Library Journal “[This] highly readable .

Even prior to Sept. 11th you had a very bearish outlook on the global economy. The Sept. 11th terrorist attacks have certainly impacted globalization in terms of outsourcing, production, just in time inventory management, supply scale economy. How badly is globalization affected in your opinion and how would global economy growth suffer? A: Actually before Sept. 11th I was particularly negative about the U.S. economy and the economies of the Western industrialized nations. I thought that the Asian economies had bottomed out. And I still think that relatively speaking the Asian economies will do better probably in the years to come and that the financial markets in Asia will do better than say in America.

Incrementum AG In Gold we Trust 2016 June 28th, 2016 In Gold we Trust 2016 Gold is back! With the strongest quarterly performance in 30 years, the precious metal in Q1 2016 emerged from the bear market that had been in force since 2013. A decisive factor in this comeback is growing uncertainty over the recovery of the post-Lehman economy. After years of administering high doses of monetary painkillers, will the Fed succeed in discontinuing the practice? Or is the entire therapy about to be fundamentally challenged? Generating growth and inflation remains the imperative of monetary Authors: policy. The systematic credit expansion required for this just doesn't want to get going. General uncertainty has now increased even further after the Twitter @RonStoeferle surprise outcome of the Brexit referendum. Mark J. Valek, CAIA [email protected] After years of pursuing low interest rate policies, central banks have Twitter @MarkValek maneuvered themselves into a lose-lose situation: Both continuing and ending the low interest rate regime harbors considerable risks. In an attempt to finally achieve the desired boost to growth, a monetary Rubicon has been crossed in several currency areas with the imposition of negative interest rates. Gold is increasingly attractive in this environment. It used to be said that gold doesn't pay interest, now it can be said that it doesn't cost interest. As a last resort, even the radical measure of helicopter money is considered these days.
