  • R.H.A.D.C WEDNESDAY NIGHT RACING a Note on Handicaps
R.H.A.D.C WEDNESDAY NIGHT RACING A note on Handicaps According to the Sailing Instructions, PHRF handicaps will be assigned to boats by the Organising Authority (OA) based on PHRF NE website, or other PHRF sources if not listed on PHRF NE, and will apply PHRF NE adjustments as necessary. Handicap appeals may be made in writing to the Organising Authority, but not later than the publication of Division / Class Splits, or 7 days prior to the regatta if no splits are published. Handicaps will remain constant for the series. PHRF coefficients of A=600; B=550 will be used. As RHADC has assumed OA status from BYRA for 2018 going forward, we have taken the opportunity to review our established handicaps with PHRF NE and we have provisionally adjusted some handicaps accordingly. Our analysis shows the following: Boat Boat Type SailNo PHRFTOT - PHRFNE RHADC 2018 BYRA 2017 2018 Rating IOD IOD BER11 168 144 144 J105 J/105 BER277 90 90 90 J24 J/24 BER194 168 168 168 J80 J/80 BER80 120 120 120 Viper 640 Viper 640 BER125 99 99 99 Etchells Etchells BER98 120 120 120 Crossfire J/125 BER125 -3 -3 -3 Addiction Lindenberg 28 73367 114 114 114 Bullshot Harbor 20 BER20 225 225 225 Cyclone Farr 395 GBR 3950R 36 30 36 Fat Tuesday J/92-ish BER113 99 105 99 Logans Run 216 216 432 Merrimist 40835 126 114 126 Nasty Medicine Corby 41 BER1000 0 0 0 Pearson 27 204 204 204 Reckless Sigma 33 BER81 147 144 150 Severn Luders 44 BER881 138 138 138 Shibumi 231 231 462 Windfire Benateau 32 141 135 135 We have also reviewed common one-design boats to see how their PHRF ratings vary between regions.

Etchells Fleet Celebrates FREE BEER AND SODA the Binnacle ~ August 2010 page 2 LCYC Binnacle - August 2010 Commodores Corner The summer is more than half past, but we are not ready to start winding down. There is so much more to do. The Club has been extremely active this year. People tell me mid week is slow, but I have witnessed a nice steady quiet activity. There is almost al- ways a Board member past and / or present roaming around doing something and I have rarely seen the stewards idle. Maybe this will change as the Jr. sailors have finished their sessions and the air cools a bit more each night. Ladies Cup was a perfect event. A shifty wind from the north, “cheating to the east,” was a challenge to 50 boats crossing the line. The finishers crossed the line in an unexpected order and Sly, with three generations of Beaudins sailing, took the honor of the Cup. The afternoon atmosphere was casual but excited for the fine weather, the company and for all the winners. The race, the BBQ, the Opti dedication and memory to Don and Mary Rathbone and the awards made it all in all a very fine day.

  • Soling Vs Etchells and Drop Hiking.Pdf
Is it time to challenge the Status Quo? Is it time to challenge the Status Quo? By Hans Fogh It was with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement that I recently took part in the Soling North Americans at Etobicoke Yacht Club in Toronto. We had a great used Abbott boat which I purchased with my crew Roger Cheer and, together with my old friend John Kerr, we finished second to Bill and Joanne Abbott and Brad Boston. It was wonderful to see so many old friends, Stu Walker, Peter Hall and Phil Kerrigan, Charlie Camps, Matt Abbott and Bruce Clifford to name a few. I want to add too, that this regatta was well run, both on the water and shore activities were very well done and organized and the banquet was frankly one of the best ones we have ever experienced. After sailing in the Etchells 22 for several years it was great to be back in the Soling. Being a bit smaller than the Etchells, the Soling feels like a dingy and when Roger and John would move around I could feel it. The Soling turns faster, the sails are smaller and the self tacker makes it easier and, honestly, you don’t need a big crew. The Etchells is a Soling with training wheels; its size and under the waterline profile with its skeg makes it tough to maneuver and get up to speed. And getting ready to rig you need all sorts of help to get the mast through the deck and set up, and your crew, well they better be north for 285 Kg to be competitive.
