Travel to The Hague

Arriving by plane

The best way to get to The Hague from Amsterdam/ Airport is by train. Schiphol Airport and Rotterdam The Hague Airport are accessible within half an hour by train or car.

 There are 6 direct trains per hour from Schiphol Airport to The Hague. Schiphol Airport offers regular and direct connections with all main airports in Europe. Good connections between the various hotels, the city centre and the conference venue by public transport are available.

 At Schiphol, the train station is situated underneath the Schiphol Plaza in the central hall of the terminal, where there are ticket desks and ticket machines. A one-way ticket (enkele reis) costs €8.20 and a day return (dagretour) costs €16.40. Direct trains to Den Haag CS run every fifteen minutes and the journey takes around 30 minutes.

 From Rotterdam, trains to Den Haag CS depart every 10-15 minutes; the journey takes around 15 minutes.

Arriving by train

 The Hague University of Applied Sciences is located directly behind the Hollands Spoor rail- way station in The Hague. From the Laakhaven exit, it is only a three-minute walk to the school.

 The Hague University of Applied Sciences can also be reached by train from Den Haag Centraal railway station (3 minutes removed from Hollands Spoor railway station) and by:

o Tram lines 1, 9, 15, 16, 17

o Bus line 18

Arriving by car

(A) From Utrecht/Zoetermeer A12/E30

 Take exit 4 (Voorburg) and take Maanweg to Binckhorst. From Binckhorstlaan turn left onto the fourth side street at the traffic lights, take Mercuriusweg towards Neherkade and cross the second bridge on your right (Leeghwaterplein).

(B) From Delft/Rotterdam A13

 Take the exit for Rijswijk centrum and follow Haagweg to Rijswijkseweg. Turn left before the bridge (Neherkade) and then cross the first bridge on your right (Leeghwaterplein).

(C) From Amsterdam/Leiden N44

 Follow Den Haag centrum RING and continue along the same road. Enter the tunnel towards Binckhorst/Nw Laakhaven, turn right onto Mercuriusweg, and then cross the second bridge on your right (Leeghwaterplein).

Public transportation in The Hague

The Hague boasts an excellent public transport system. Over 30 bus and tramlines will take you quickly and safely to your destination in and around The Hague.

Paying for public transport

The OV-chipcard is the most common system of paying for trams and buses throughout the Netherlands. The Strippenkaart was being phased out and the OV-chipcard became the standard in 2011. If you do not have an OV-chipcard, you can pay for your ticket in cash. Visit the website of HTM for more information about paying for public transport and the types of tickets available, including day tickets (€7.70).

Taxi

No special night rates apply in The Hague. It is often possible to hail a taxi in the street but you will also find special taxi stands at the train stations and various points throughout the city. One taxi company, RegioTaxi Haaglanden, offers a price which is between that for normal public transport and a taxi. You can use the service seven days a week between 6.00 and 1.00 hrs. RegioTaxi is available to everyone but is specially equipped for disabled and less mobile passengers.

The Hague is the third largest city of the Netherlands, after Amsterdam and Rotterdam, located in the west of the Netherlands, near the coast of the North Sea. It is the seat of the Dutch government and parliament, the Supreme Court, and the Council of State. The Hague is the International City of Peace and Justice.
