http://www.indolamp.com/technologyhowitworks.html

•Electromagnetic , constructed from rings of metal coils and powered by a high electronic ballast, create an around a glass tube which contains the gas. The discharge path, induced by the coils, forms a closed loop allowing acceleration of free electrons, which collide with atoms and excite the electrons. As the excited electrons from these atoms fall back from this higher energy level to a lower stable state, they emit radiation. This UV energy is converted to visible light as it passes through a coating on the surface of the tube. The unusual shape of an induction lamp maximizes the efficiency of the electromagnetic fields that are generated.

ƒ Uses wireless technology to ƒ Induction lamps do not use produce light - using simple electrodes. magnetism ƒ Instead of a ballast, the ƒ Principle of Induction is the system uses a high-frequency transmission of energy by generator with a power way of a magnetic field. coupler .

ƒ Fluorescent lamps use ƒ The generator produces a electrodes to strike the arc and magnetic initiate the flow of current field to excite gas fill. through the lamp, which excites the gas fill. ƒ So energy transfers through electromagnetic induction.

† An electrodeless lamp is a light source in which the power required to generate light is transferred from the outside of the lamp envelope by means of (electro)magnetic fields, in contrast with a typical electrical lamp that uses electrical connections through the lamp envelope to transfer power. There are three advantages of eliminating electrodes: † Extended lamp life, because the electrodes are usually the limiting factor in lamp life. † The ability to use high efficiency light-generating substances that would react with metal electrodes in normal lamps. † Improved collection efficiency because the source can be made very small without shortening life - a problem in electroded lamps † Two systems are described below—one, lamps, based on the use of radio waves energizing a bulb filled with sulfur or metal halides, the other, fluorescent induction lamps, based upon conventional .
