I was born on 1.10.1932 on a farm in Seebeck, a small village in Brandenburg province in Germany. My parents were farmers; my father had extensive fruit crops and vegetables, especially asparagus. My hometown is located at Vielitzsee, around 80 kilometers north from Berlin. Berlin was and is the German capital that I often visited with my parents and my sister. Before the 2nd World War my father had established a dairy where the milk was processed from the surrounding villages. My parents ran a business market in Oranienburg, a town where I later went to school on the northern outskirts of Berlin. Growing up in the Hitler years. My grandfather had 5 sons who all had farms. He lived on the farm of my father, and took care of me much of the time. He lived to the age of 99 years. When Hitler came to power in 1933, my father had to close the dairy. Everything was centralized. I started school in my village of Seebeck on 1.9.1939, on the day of the attack of Poland by the German army. The whole school consisted of only one class, in which children aged 6 to 14 years were taught. Later during the war, I went to school in Oranienburg and therefore had to live with friends, my new foster parents. -

Cyril and Methodius in Trnava [email protected] ABSTRACT This case study discusses a youth branch of Matica slovenská, a pro-Slovak culture organization. It is based on in-depth research of the structure of the organization and it focuses on basic characteristics of functioning of this social movement such as funding, membership base, political orientation, civic engagement, patriotic activities and also the causes of negative media presentation. Presented material pointed to a thin boundary between the perception of positive manifestations of patriotism and at the same time negative (even extremist) connotations of such manifestations in Slovak society. This duplicate perception of patriotic activities is reflected not only in polarization of opinion in society but also on the level of political, media and public communication. Thus, the article is a small probe from the scene of youth activism with an ambition to point out to such a diverse perception of patriotic organizations/activities in present-day Slovak society. INTRODUCTION It may seem premature to speak of the demise of the nation-state' when the last decade has seen the proliferation of ever-smaller nation-states throughout Eastern Europe and Asia and the demand for secession from national move- ments in countries as diverse as Canada, Yugoslavia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Rus- sia, Spain and India. EGON for AnaCredit EGON for AnaCredit The AnaCredit project involves creating a new database for the regulation of bank loans at European level. AnaCredit The European Central Bank thus requires individual Banks, through their National Central Banks, to collect a very detailed and granular set of data, including master data and addresses. This request is currently limited to legal entities, but it will also be extended to private individuals. EGON offers specific tools to support banks in transmitting this information to the ECB in a unique, codified manner in accordance with established European standards. In particular, EGON for AnaCredit is able to manage and standardize the following information: Address with NUTS encoding attribution National Identifier (e.g. tax codes, tax IDs, or other national identifiers) Legal Forms (Legal Forms of Each EU Country) LEI (Legal entities identifier) Classification of economic activities (transcoded in NACE coding) Managed information Address National Identifier The address must be provided according to the structure The National Identifier is a national identification code that below, with the attribution of the NUTS3 encoding, allowing uniquely identifies a physical or legal entity. The composition of EGON to manage at EU level: National Identifiers is different for each country. Codebook InDivEU – party preferences European University Institute, Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies December 2020 Introduction The “InDivEU – party preferences” dataset provides data on the positions of more than 400 parties from 28 countries1 on questions of (differentiated) European integration. The dataset comprises a selection of party positions taken from two existing datasets: (1) The EU Profiler/euandi Trend File The EU Profiler/euandi Trend File contains party positions for three rounds of European Parliament elections (2009, 2014, and 2019). Party positions were determined in an iterative process of party self-placement and expert judgement. For more information: https://cadmus.eui.eu/handle/1814/65944 (2) The Chapel Hill Expert Survey The Chapel Hill Expert Survey contains party positions for the national elections most closely corresponding the European Parliament elections of 2009, 2014, 2019. These positions were determined by experts involved in the 2019 edition of euandi after the elections took place. The rapporteurs express satisfaction that local democracy in Slovenia complies with the provisions of the European Charter of Local Self-Government and provides options for citizen participation. The report takes note of the improvements as regards the distribution of shared state taxes, good practices concerning the integration of Roma minorities and the status of the capital city. It notes, however, that the consultation process between the local authorities and the central government has not improved, the fragmentation of municipalities remains an issue and the process of regionalisation is still blocked. This being said, a consensus between the political actors seems to have been reached on the necessity to set up regions in Slovenia. The Congress recommends that Slovenia increase the local -

It builds its argument on the interaction of international and domestic factors. In doing so, it details the origins of Yugoslav ideology as a fluid concept rooted in the early 19th century Croatian national movement. Tracing the evolving nationalist competition among Serbs and Croats, it demonstrates inherent contradictions of the Yugoslav project. These contradictions resulted in ethnic outbidding among Croatian nationalists and communists against the perceived Serbian hegemony. This dynamic drove the gradual erosion of Yugoslav state capacity during Cold War. The end of Cold War coincided with the height of internal Yugoslav conflict. Managing the collapse of Soviet Union and communism imposed both strategic and normative imperatives on the Western allies. These imperatives largely determined external policy toward Yugoslavia. They incentivized and inhibited domestic actors in pursuit of their goals. The result was the collapse of the country with varying degrees of violence. The findings support further research on international causes of civil wars. -

INTRODUCTION Upon invitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic of 18 August 1998, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe=s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) established an Election Observation Mission in Slovakia for the 25 and 26 September Parliamentary elections. Ms. Helle Degn, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Danish Parliament, was designated by the OSCE Chairman-in-Office as his Representative for the Election in Slovakia. Mr. Kåre Vollan was appointed by the ODIHR as the OSCE On-site Co-ordinator and Head of the ODIHR Election Observation Mission, and Ms Siri Skåre as Deputy Head upon being seconded by the Government of Norway. The OSCE was involved at an early stage in the pre-election process including a visit by the ODIHR Director, Ambassador Stoudmann, on February 6 and May 5-6, and a visit by the former President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Mr. Javier Ruperez on May 4-5. -

As a member of the Slovak Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), she worked in the field of Public Relations within the KDH from 1992 to 1994. In 1993 she started working as a Public Relations Assistant of the Iowa-State- University-Foundation until 1996. 1996 she completed an in- ternship at the German parliament in the office of Rudolf Seiters (MP CDU). In 1997/98 Ms. Slivková was a Project Manager at the Centre for European politics and worked as a freelance Translator. It seems as if Slovakia needed to go through a purifying fire in order to shine in the full beauty of the Phoenix. The result of the last four years is a country, where the lie was a working method, human dignity was trampled, and citizens played only a minor role in issues that influenced their lives. Constantly-repeated statements about freedom, hu- man rights, democracy and a flourishing economy became untrustworthy and empty phrases.
