• Read “Guide to Living in Japan” and be aware of the important elements: • To receive your residence card and work permit at the airport • To decide your place to live and complete a contract • To open your bkbank account in Japan • To open a mobile phone account (https://school.globis .ac .jp/private/files/English/7 jp/private/files/English/7_ 1%20Guide_ to_ Live_in _Japan.pdf)

• Consider purchasing travel insurance for your flight to Japan (and in Japan before JEES insurance takes effect on September 1)

• Bring a credit card to Japan for online purchases (it is difficult for students to obtain credit cards in Japan)

Your address is necessary to issue your Student ID card, and you can purchase your commuter pass only after the ID card is issued. Academic prep • Download the course materials for Module 0 8/22 • (Optional) Complete Microsoft Office Online Learning (Excel, PPT) (Wed) • Register for the courses in Module 1 and 2 8/31 • Apply & pay for JEES insurance (Fri)

 Money: Japan largely remains a cash‐based society. Please keep some Japanese yen in cash with you at all times. See below for locations and operating times of the currency exchanges and ATMs at the airports: ・ Narita currency exchange: http://www. narita‐airport. jp/en/service/svc_ 11 ・ Narita ATMs: http://www.narita‐airport.jp/en/service/svc_12 ・ Haneda (both): http://www.haneda‐airport.jp/inter/en/premises/service/bank.html  Wifi: Both Narita and Haneda have free Wifi (which you can use to figure out the best train route).  Access to Tokyo: Train (usually the fastest way into Tokyo): Most peoplhle use the JR Narita Express or Keisei Sklkyliner, whhbhhhich both have surc harges. (Bot h companies run infrequent slower local trains without surcharges.) Taxi: Taxis can run about 25,000 yen (~US$300) to central Tokyo. If you take one, check to see if they take credit cards and make sure you have the exact address in Japanese (or you can give directions in

For those who are on student visas: Upon your arrival in Japan, submit the 5 required materials and receive 2 materials at thhhe immigration counter at the airport.
