The Lesotechnical University Socrates – Erasmus Intensive Programme VITA in Sofia was proposing the Klisura Monastery, NOVA 2006 took place during wintertime on 12th- founded in 1240. Baštinik nemanjićke države i tradicije, knez Lazar nije bio lišen prava na srpski presto, niti prava na carstvo nebesko. Nemanjićki tron je zadobio političkom veštinom i hrabrošću. Carstvo nebesko je zaslužio mučeničkom smrću na Kosovu polju. Posle kneza Lazara, kneginja Milica je vladala Srbijom umesto muža velikomučenika i maloletnog sina. Sačuvala je državu i narod da bi ubrzo predala vlast prvorođenom sinu Stefanu.

Daily urban system of Belgrade Srboljub Stamenković, Dragica Gatarić The explanation of the dominant characteristics of daily urban system of Belgrade, which represents the main functional knot of the Republic of Serbia by the functional capac- ity as well as by the spatial range of daily interaction of people, capital and information, we have based on studying the spatial-demographic and settlement aspects of daily migrations of labour, pupils and students. Both our and previous experiences in study- ing the phenomenon of daily migrations of the population in Serbia have been based exclusively or in the most of the cases on the field-work researches of daily circulations of people, its territorial framework and structural characteristics. Those researches have mainly local, sub-regional and regional character. As such, they enable the partial study of smaller daily urban systems. The scientific notions on daily urban systems and their function are modest because of that and mostly imbued by ‘whiteness’, if it can be said so. After all, it has been stated for many times in scientific discussions that the existing theoretical and empirical notions on population migrations, and also on daily migrations in geographical studies of the settlement net (Stamenković, 1996), are partial, insufficient and mainly imprecise, as well as that their study is handicapped by the imperfection of the theory (Petrovic, Blagojević, 1989). Moreover, in science, as in the European and world relations (Gottmann,1961; Berry, 1964; Lee, Mc Donald, 2003) so in the scientific researches in Serbia, the significance and the need of studying the phenomena of daily migrations of the population and daily (local) urban systems have been emphasized for many times (Stamenković, 1998; Tošić, Nevenić, 2007).

    9-11 SEPTEMBER 2021 Abstracts 2nd RICONTRANS Workshop ICONS IN MOTION: RUSSIAN RELIGIOUS ART, VISUAL CULTURE AND COLLECTIVE IDENTITIES IN THE BALKANS AND THE EAST MEDITERRANEAN LOCATION: UNIVERSITY OF BELGRADE | FACULTY OF PHILOSOPHY The RICONTRANS project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement No. 818791) Visual Culture, Piety and Propaganda: Transfer and Reception of Russian Religious Art in the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean (16th – early 20th century) https://ricontrans-project.eu/ The Russian religious artefacts (icons and ecclesiastical furnishings), held in museums, church or monastery collections in the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean, constitute a body of valuable monuments hitherto largely neglected by historians and historians of art. These objects acquire various interrelated religious, ideological, political and aes- thetic meanings, value, and uses. Their transfer and reception constitutes a significant component of the wider process of transformation of the artistic language and visual culture in the region and its transition from medieval to modern idioms. It is at the same time a process reflecting the changing cultural and political relations between Russia and the Orthodox communities in the Ottoman Empire and its successor states in the Balkans over a long period of time (16th- early 20th century). In this dynamic transfer, piety, propaganda and visual culture appear intertwined in historically unexplored and theoretically provoking ways. RICONTRANS explores the thousands of Russian Icons and other religious art objects, brought from Russia to the Balkans from the 16th until the 20th century, preserved in monasteries, churches, and museum collections in the region.

For more information, please contact us at [email protected] or visit our website at www.contemporarysee.org On Populist Pop Culture: ethno as the contemporary political ideology in Serbia Irena Šentevska This study attempts to shift the debate of the contemporary facets of populist ideologies from the realm of institutional politics to the realm of everyday life, popular culture, media and “invented traditions”. My intention is to demonstrate how these realms generate new sources and voices of populism, often downplayed in the academic debates on the subject. The paper stems from comprehensive research on discourses of identity (re)construction in post-Yugoslav Serbia as communicated in pop- cultural media forms (specifically, music videos of all genres), in which I used a sample of 4733 music videos produced between 1980 and 2010 (and later). In this paper, I have chosen to focus on the case of the charity campaign Podignimo Stupove and its music video output. The campaign was launched as a pop-cultural initiative to help the restoration of the 12th century monastery Đurđevi Stupovi in Stari Ras, a site of utmost historical significance and value for the national culture.
