Drugi rok swego istnienia zaczyna Rocznik Astronomiczny pod znakiem 450-tej rocznicy urodzin Mikołaja Kopernika, największego astronoma wszystkich czasów a nieśmiertelnej chluby narodu naszego. Oby rok ten stał się dla astronomji polskiej przełomowym i wypro­ wadził ją z obecnego poniżenia przez założenie choćby podwalin pod NARODOWY INSTYTUT ASTRONOMICZNY! Skromne prace nasze, podjęte celem urzeczywistnienia idei tego zakładu, opisane są w tym R oczniku i jeżeli wydawnictwo niniejsze chociażby w słabym stopniu przyczyni się do wzbudzenia wśród społeczeństwa przekonania, że astro- nomja polska na lepszą zasługuje oprawę, niż ta, w którą zawarły ją macosze rządy zaborców, będziemy sowicie wynagrodzeni za pracę. O celach Rocznika nie będziemy się tu rozpisywali, gdyż zostały one szczegółowo omówione w przedmowie do tomu I. Przypominamy tylko, że chodzi nam zarówno o miłośników zjawisk niebieskich i nauk przy­ rodniczych wogóle, jako też o potrzeby praktyczne społeczeństwa, i, wreszcie, o cele czysto naukowe. W porównaniu z rokiem zeszłym R ocznik został znacznie rozsze­ rzony: w dziale zjawisk — przez dodanie szczegółowych wiadomości o biegach planet (z mapkami), ich wschodach i zachodach, zakryć gwiazd dla Poznania, tudzież danych o fenomenach w świecie księży­ ców Jowisza; w dziale zaś literackim — przez szereg artykułów, za­ równo ogólno-dostępnych, z artykułem prof. Birkenmajera o Koperniku na czele, jako też i bardziej specjalnych. R ocznik będzie uzupełniony ponadto przez część międzynarodową, która wyjdzie później, a zawie­ rać będzie, między innemi, obliczenia momentów zaćmień gwiazd zmien­ nych, dokonane przez nas na zlecenie Kongresu Unji Astronomicznej w Rzymie, w maju 1922 r. W opracowaniu tomu II. Rocznika brał udział, w rozmaitym sto­ pniu, prawie cały, tak zresztą nieliczny, personel Obserwatorjum kra­ IV kowskiego, Największe zasługi położyli dla niniejszego tomu pp. M ik. Miedźwiecki, i J. Witkowski, tudzież asystent - wolontarjusz Obserwa­ torjum — p, St. Struzik. Niemałego trudu obliczenia zakryć gwiazd przez Księżyc dokonał sam jeden p. Eug. Rybka. Kończąc, miło nam jest podziękować Drukarni Związkowej i jej personelowi, w szczególności p. J. Spectral classification of PMS Ae/Fe stars, based on visual observations, may lead to ambiguous conclusions. Aims. We aim to reduce these ambiguities by using UV spectra for the classification of these stars, because the rise of the continuum in the UV is highly sensitive to the stellar spectral type of A/F-type stars. Methods. We analyse the low-resolution UV spectra in terms of a 3-component model, that consists of spectra of a central star, of an optically-thick accretion disc, and of a boundary-layer between the disc and star. The disc-component was calculated as a juxtaposition of Planck spectra, while the 2 other components were simulated by the low-resolution UV spectra of well-classified standard stars (taken from the IUE spectral atlases). The hot boundary-layer shows strong similarities to the spectra of late-B type supergiants (see Appendix A). Results. We modeled the low-resolution UV spectra of 37 PMS Ae/Fe stars. Each spectral match provides 8 model parameters: spectral type and luminosity-class of photosphere and boundary-layer, temperature and width of the boundary-layer, disc-inclination and circumstellar extinction.

The 33 “written” on the Schmidt Telescope dome using a green laser pointer during the two-minute exposure commemorates the rescue effort of 33 miners trapped for 69 days almost 700 m underground in the San Jose mine in northern Chile. THE PROPOSED RESEARCH The NIAC Ghost Imaging of Space Objects research program has been carried out at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Caltech. The program consisted of Phase I (October 2011 to September 2012) and Phase II (October 2012 to September 2014). The research team consisted of Drs. Nearby late-type stars are excellent targets for seeking young objects in stellar associations and moving groups. The origin of these structures is still misunderstood, and lists of moving group members often change with time and also from author to author. Most members of these groups have been identified by means of kinematic criteria, leading to an important contamination of previous lists by old field stars. Aims. We attempt to identify unambiguous moving group members among a sample of nearby-late type stars by studying their kinematics, lithium abundance, chromospheric activity, and other age-related properties. Methods. High-resolution echelle spectra (R ∼ 57000) of a sample of nearby late-type stars are used to derive accurate radial velocities that are combined with the precise Hipparcos parallaxes and proper motions to compute galactic-spatial velocity components. Stars are classified as possible members of the classical moving groups according to their kinematics.
