It was not until 2006 – after a combined Serbia and Montenegro national side had participated in that year's FIFA World Cup in Germany – that the small Adriatic coastal state earned independence. Performances have exceeded expectations, with the team reaching the qualifying play- offs of UEFA EURO 2012 on their competition debut and also challenging strongly for a place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup until their form tailed off in the second half of the campaign. EURO pedigree Matches played Overall: P10 W3 D3 L4 F7 A10 Final tournament: P0 W0 D0 L0 F0 A0 Qualifying: P10 W3 D3 L4 F7 A10 Granted full membership of UEFA in January 2007, Montenegro have only competed in one UEFA European Championship campaign. It was a debut to remember, with the nation of just over 600,000 battling their way to the play-offs, where they lost out to the Czech Republic – 2-0 in Prague and 1-0 in Podgorica. They were unbeaten in their first five games, wins against Wales, Bulgaria and Switzerland preceding a creditable goalless draw with England at Wembley. Things faded after that, with a 1-1 draw at home to Bulgaria and a first defeat, 2-1 in Wales. Zlatko Kranjčar was then replaced by his assistant Branko Brnović and Montenegro rallied, a thrilling 2-2 draw against England in Podgorica, secured by Andrija Delibašićꞌs 91st-minute header, earning the runners-up spot. That put them in the play-offs, but they went no further. Memorable EURO matches 07/10/2011: Montenegro 2-2 England, UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying The home side came from 2-0 down as Delibašićꞌs late header secured their play-off place. 12/10/2010: England 0-0 Montenegro, UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying Mladen Božović starred in goal and Milan Jovanović hit the bar for injury-hit Montenegro at Wembley. 03/09/2010: Montenegro 1-0 Wales, UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying Vučinić's solo effort on 30 minutes secured Montenegro's first EURO qualifying victory. Did you know? Mijatović scored the only goal in the 1998 UEFA Champions League final, earning Real Madrid CF victory against Juventus and their first European Cup for 32 years. *Last updated 07/01/14 3 UEFA EURO 2016 - Qualifying draw Monday 24 February 2014 - 12.00CET (12.00 local time) Press kit Palais des Congrès Acropolis, Nice Montenegro - Coach profile Branko Brnović Date of birth: 8 August 1967 Nationality: Montenegrin Playing career: FK Budućnost Podgorica, FK Partizan, RCD Espanyol, FK Kom Coaching career: Montenegro (assistant), Montenegro • Regarded as one of the most talented midfielders in the former Yugoslavia, Brnović started his club career at Budućnost and was soon making an impact on the international stage. • Won the FIFA U-20 World Cup with Yugoslavia in 1987 alongside such future stars as Davor Šuker, Predrag Mijatović and Zvonimir Boban. Played every game, scoring twice, and was named in the team of the tournament. • Left Budućnost in 1991 for Partizan, with whom he lifted back-to-back national titles and two domestic cups. Also established himself in the senior Yugoslavia side, and then Serbia and Montenegro's team, going on to win 27 caps in total. • Moved to Spain and spent six seasons with Espanyol, making 146 Liga appearances. Hung up his boots in 2000, yet six years later came out of retirement for a half-season cameo at Kom after Montenegro's independence from Serbia. • A member of Montenegro's coaching staff since February 2007, he began as Zoran Filipović's assistant before staying on in the same role under Zlatko Kranjčar. In September 2011, he replaced Kranjčar at the Montenegro helm and signed a two-year contract extension after 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying. 4 UEFA EURO 2016 - Qualifying draw Monday 24 February 2014 - • Jalgpalli Mälumäng 2013
V Eesti meistrivõistlused jalgpalli mälumängus 29.10.2013 Küsimuste koostajad Siim Avi, Indrek Schwede ja Mihkel Uiboleht 1. Lõppeval kuul on olnud väga palju juttu poliitikast, siit ka meie esimene küsimus. Küsitav jalgpallitreener on kuulunud kolme erakonda (Põllumeeste Kogu, Eestimaa Rahvaliit ja Eesti Keskerakond) ning pürginud kahel korral Riigikokku – ERSP nimekirjas sai ta 1992. aastal 202 ja 1999. aastal Eesti Sinise Erakonna ridades 37 häält. Sama meest tunnustati 2001. aastal Eesti Punase Risti V klassi teenetemärgiga. Kellest on jutt? 2. Kellest on jutt? 3. Kellega on tegu? 4. Inglismaa Jalgpalli Liidu ametlikus nimes puudub sõna „Inglismaa“ – tegemist on lihtsalt „Jalgpalliliiduga“. Euroopas on aga kaks riiki, mille jalgpalliliidu ametlikus nimes puudub sõna „jalgpall“. Nimeta need riigid (1 riik = 1 punkt). 5. Alates 2006. aastast korraldataval VIVA World Cupil on esikohale tulnud Kurdistani, Padania ja Saami esindused. Osalejate seas on olnud näiteks ka Gozo, Sansibar, Põhja-Küpros, Oksitaania, Darfur ja Lääne-Sahara.
