All families that have registered will receive a free yummy kiddush package by Friday June 19 that will be filled with a small potato kugel, small pareve chulent with kishke, an alcoholic beverage, a cold brew, four different pastries, the sefer “Master Your Words - Master Your Life” on the laws of Shemiras Haloshon, and 2 fog free face shields. B”H, Shlomo & Shifra Friedlander ( from Israel ) are sponsoring all the books. The Virtual Kiddush will be on Friday 6:10 -6:30 PM. You will have an opportunity to shmooz with Shul members and make LeChaims with everyone. The best part is that you don’t have to wait in line to get your food - and you can spread it out over the whole Shabbos! It is only open for members & associate-members in good standing. We will not be able to gather in person for Yizkor on the 2nd day of Shavuot, but we will be gathering virtually tomorrow Thursday, May 28 from 6:30- 7:00PM, to recite Yizkor as a community.     Guide to Shavuot at Home 5780 Erev Shavuot – Thursday May 28 ● Eiruv Tavshilin should be prepared. This is to allow one to cook on Friday (Yom Tov) for Shabbat. Set aside a cooked food and a baked food that will be eaten on Shabbat and then: Take the food items (it is a good idea to wrap them in aluminum foil, or another distinctive packaging, to easily keep them apart from the rest of the foods in your home), and raise them a handbreadth, and then recite the following: Blessed are you, L-rd our G-d, king of the universe, who has sanctified us with his commandments, and commanded us concerning the mitzvah of eruv. Through this [eruv] it shall be permissible for us to bake, cook, put away a dish [to preserve its heat], kindle a light, prepare, and do on the holiday all that is necessary for Shabbat — for us and for all the Israelites who dwell in this city. The eruv is put away until Shabbat, when it is eaten. In many communities, it is customary to use the challah or matzah as one of the two loaves of bread used at the Shabbat meal. ● One should make an effort to daven mincha before plag hamincha which is at 7:19pm. We will have a Zoom pre-Yom Tov ruach at 6:45pm followed by Mincha at 7:05pm. ● Candle lighting should take place at 8:31pm. Many women have the custom to recite shehecheyanu immediately after lighting candles (note: women who will be reciting Kiddush themselves may not recite shehecheyanu at candle lighting).

We spent this past Wednesday even- Shabbos Nachamu ing and Thursday mourning two thousand years of collective loss. We mourned the 2,500,000 Jews Shabbos Night murdered during the destruction of the second Temple, we mourned the 6,000,000 who perished in 7:00p Mincha followed by Kabbolas the Holocaust, we mourned every man, woman and child we have lost throughout the years. But Shabbos then something amazing occurs – we find comfort. This Shabbos is called, Shabbos Nachamu (the 8:01p Candle Lighting Shabbos of consolation). This name is taken from the opening words of the Haftorah, ‘Nachamu Shabbos Day Nachamu Ami, (be consoled, be consoled my nation),’ uttered by the prophet, Isaiah. We transition 8:30a Shacharis (9:40a Krias Shema) from profound mourning to a feeling of comforting consolation in just a matter of days. Yet, we must 7:50p Mincha ask, what has changed? Has the final redemption occurred? Have the fundamental challenges of 8:10p High School Boys Learning suffering and difficulty been alleviated? Where is the nechama (consolation) of Shabbos Nachamu? 8:10p Daf Yomi (Rabbi Silber) Rav Yosef Dov HaLevi Soloveitchik zt’l (1903-1993) explains this dynamic in a profound way. After 9:00p Maariv two thousand years of suffering and constant challenges, one would have assumed that the Jewish 9:01p Havdalah people would have ceased to exist.
