The palaeontological analysis led to identification of twenty seven taxa of benthic foraminifera and algae in the section studied. Diverse assemblages of benthic foraminifera and also the low planktonic/benthic (P/B) ratio show that the sedimentary environment in the study area was oxygenated and shallow. Key words: microbiostratigraphy, palaeoecology, Lower Cretaceous, Bararig section, Kerman Province, Iran. RESUMEN Los sedimentos del Barremiano-Aptiano en la sección Bararig section (al suroeste de Kuhbanan) consisten en una alternancia de margas y calizas. El análisis paleontológico permitió la identificación de 27 taxa de foraminíferos bentónicos y algas en la sección estudidad. Diversas asociaciones de foraminíferos bentónicos y la baja relación de planctónicos/bentónicos (P/B) indica que el ambiente sedimentario en el área de estudio fue oxigenado y somero. -

Paleocene Freshwater, Brackish-Water and Marine Molluscs from Al-Khodh, Oman
Late Cretaceous to ?Paleocene freshwater, brackish-water and marine molluscs from Al-Khodh, Oman Simon Schneider, heinz A. KollmAnn & mArtin PicKford Bivalvia and Gastropoda from the late Campanian to Maastrichtian deltaic Al-Khodh Formation and from the overlying ?Paleocene shallow marine Jafnayn Limestone Formation of northeastern Oman are described. Freshwater bivalves include three species of Unionidae, left in open nomenclature, due to limited preservation. These are the first pre-Pleistocene unionids recorded from the Arabian Peninsula, where large freshwater bivalves are absent today. Brackish-water bivalves are represented by two species of Cyrenidae. Geloina amithoscutana sp. nov. extends the range of Geloina to the Mesozoic and to ancient Africa. Muscatella biszczukae gen. et sp. nov. has a unique combination of characters not shared with other genera in the Cyrenidae. Brackish-water gastropods comprise Stephaniphera coronata gen. et sp. nov. in the Hemisinidae; Subtemenia morgani in the new genus Subtemenia (Pseudomelaniidae); Cosinia sp. (Thiaridae); Pyrazus sp. (Batillariidae); and Ringiculidae sp. indet. From the Jafnayn Limestone Formation, several marginal marine mollusc taxa are also reported. The fossils are assigned to four mollusc communities and associations, which are indicative of different salinity regimes. • Key words: Unionidae, Cyrenidae, Pseudomelaniidae, Hemisinidae, taxonomy, palaeobiogeography. Neurology Asia 2013; 18(4) : 385 – 389 Prevalence of multiple sclerosis and environmental factors in Kerman province, Iran Hossein Ali Ebrahimi MD, Behnaz Sedighi MD Neurology Research Center, Kerman University of Medical Sciences, Kerman, Iran Abstract Objective: In this study we investigated the epidemiology of MS and some related environmental factors in Kerman province, southeastern Iran. Methods: The MS diagnosis was based on the revised Mc-Donald criteria. The patients were those registered at the Iran MS society, Kerman branch; those in the MS registration centers of Kerman and Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences, and the Department of Neurology at Shafa Medical Center were studied. Results: The prevalence of MS was 31.5 per 100,000 population in Kerman province, and 57.3 per 100,000 population in Kerman city. The male to female ratio was 1:3. Average age at onset was 28.35 years, and 3.9% of cases were early onset at ≤16 years of age. A linear relationship was observed between prevalence and average environmental temperature as prevalence tended to be lower in areas where the annual average temperature was higher. However, in the town of Shahrbabak which has cold weather, prevalence was low, which might be related to the presence of copper in this area. Average disability was 4.5± 1.9 (4.83 ± 1.9 in men and 4.26 ± 1.8 in women, p=0.0035) on the Kurtzke Disability Status Scale. The mean duration of illness was 8.2 ± 1 year. Almost all patients in this study used beta-interferon for a period of at least 4 years. -

Houbrick Department of Invertebrate Zoology, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. 20560, U.S.A. ABSTRACT The anatomy of seven members of the Bittium group is described, clarifying the status of the genus-level taxa comprising it. Bittium reticulatum, the type species of Bittium Gray, is described in depth, thereby establishing criteria for comparisons with other taxa of Bitliinae. The type species of Stylidium Dell and LirobiWum Bartsch, and representatives of Bittiolum Cossmann and Cacozeliana Strand are examined and compared with Bittium, s.s. Results of anatomical studies and a phylogenetic analysis using the Hennig86 and CLADOS programs, with Cehtt)ium as an outgroup, establish monophyly for Bitliinae Cossmann and reveal six different genus-level taxa. A new genus, ittibittium, from the Indo-Pacific, is proposed. Synonymies of each genus- level taxon and representative species examined are presented. Brief accounts of the ecology and zoogeography of each taxon are given. Two taxa formerly attributed to the 6/ff/um-group are herein excluded from it and referred to Cerithium Bruguière. These are Cerithium zebrum Kiener, 1841, and Cerithium boeticum Pease, 1861. The subfamily Bittiinae Cossmann, 1906, is thought to comprise nine genera (four of which were not included in phylogenetic analyses) : Bittium Gray, 1847; Bittiolum Cossmann, 1906; Ittibittium gen. n., Stylidium Dalí, 1907; Lirobit- tium Bartsch, 1911 ; Cacozeliana Strand, 1928; Argyropeza Melvill & Standen, 1901 ; Varicopeza Gründel, 1976; Zebittium Finlay, 1927. The genus Cassiella Gofas, 1987, of uncertain place- ment, is included as a possible member of the group. -

Read Full License Page 1/10 Abstract Background This study was designed to directly and indirectly estimate the prevalence of sexual behaviors among students of medical science universities in the eighth Macro- region of Iran. Methods This cross-sectional study was performed on 3900 students from Kerman and Sistan and Baluchestan provinces in 2019. The data were collected using direct (i.e., self-report of their own behaviors) and indirect (NSU: Network scale-up) methods. Results The mean (SD) age of students was 22.45 (3.25). The prevalence of heterosexual intercourse in return for money, extramarital heterosexual intercourse, masturbation, sexting, porn watching, homosexuality and abortion based on NSU method was 6.0%, 8.5%, 19.5%, 9.1%, 22.9%, 2.4% and 0.5% respectively. Corresponding gures of the direct method were 5.7%, 5.8% 18.6%, 9.7%, 23.1%, 2.1% and 0.9% respectively. Conclusion Sexual behaviors like porn watching, masturbation and sexting can harm the youth, family and society. -
