Too much TV? Enter HBO Max, the latest streaming wannabe 27 May 2020, by Tali Arbel Entertainment companies like AT&T's WarnerMedia are broadly shifting to streaming video, following in Netflix' wake, as more people drop their traditional cable bundles. Disney launched Disney Plus and the sports-focused ESPN Plus and took control of Hulu from an industry joint venture. Comcast's NBCUniversal is launching Peacock widely this summer. ViacomCBS is redoing CBS All Access, pumping it up with more programming. Even Fox Corp. has its Fox Nation app. Apple, a tech company, started a small service of its own. (HBO Max via AP) Is a pandemic the perfect time to launch a new and relatively expensive streaming service? AT&T sure hopes so. The phone company is investing billions in HBO Max, its first big entertainment venture since it spent $85 billion for Time Warner in 2018. The good news for its timing: millions are stuck at home, watching more video than ever. The bad news: many of them also out of work and carefully watching their incomes. The service launches Wednesday in the U.S. This image released by Sesame Workshop shows muppet character Elmo, who will host a family friendly "People are going to look at the price point first," show called "The Not Too Late Show with Elmo." It said Steve Nason, research director at Parks begins streaming May 27 on HBO Max.

  • March 19, 2019 To: Warnermedia Colleagues From: John Stankey
March 19, 2019 To: WarnerMedia Colleagues From: John Stankey Subject: Warner Bros. Leadership Transition I’ve asked three members of the existing Warner Bros. executive team to lead the organization on an interim basis until a new Chairman and CEO is named. We are doing this to ensure minimal disruption to the day-to-day operations of the studio and to provide the time we need to conduct a thorough search to find the best candidate to lead this incredible and storied business to its next chapter of growth and success. Our creative and business partners deserve this. Our company – and you – deserve no less. The executives who have graciously come together to help me manage this business on an interim basis are: Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group; Peter Roth, President and Chief Content Officer, Warner Bros. Television Group; and Kim Williams, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Warner Bros. Entertainment. We all recognize that operating day-to-day in this manner will be a little different from the normal course of business, but the four of us agree that we need to remain focused and steer clear of any counterproductive speculation around what this temporary leadership group portends for the future. Toby, Peter and Kim will keep us focused squarely on achieving our goals and staying on track with our ambitious plans for Warner Bros. this year. I will work closely with the three of them during this period to help make sure issues are quickly addressed and operations continue to progress in the normal course of business.

  • Amazing Stories Foundation Partners with Warnermedia for the Film and TV Apprenticeship Program
Friday, Oct. 16, 2020 Amazing Stories Foundation Partners with WarnerMedia for the Film and TV Apprenticeship Program Aimed at Local Atlanta Residents Interested in Careers in the Entertainment Production Industry The Amazing Stories Foundation announced its partnership with WarnerMedia for the Film and TV Apprenticeship Program, a paid training for adult career seekers looking for full-time opportunities in Georgia’s film and television workforce. The program will kick off its second season on Monday, Oct. 26 in East Point, GA for adults ages 24 and up. In response to a lack of diversity on various production sets, ASF was founded in 2019 by Rob Hardy, producer, director and owner of Rainforest Entertainment, as a way to train diverse emerging talent. He based the apprenticeship program in Atlanta to take advantage of Georgia’s booming entertainment industry and build a pipeline of highly-qualified and experienced hopefuls with a desire to work in film and television. Last year, the pilot season of the fellowship trained 14 production assistants who gained work experience on the sets of various shows including WarnerMedia’s “Black Lightning” (CW), “Dynasty” (CW), “Legacies” (CW) and “Lovecraft Country” (HBO). More than 86% of past participants were employed by productions based in the Atlanta area within the first three months. This year’s collaboration with WarnerMedia will give ASF apprentices training and placement through WarnerMedia’s Access to Action, a program that provides opportunities to those who haven't traditionally had pathways into the entertainment industry. It was designed to foster a more creative and inclusive workforce through production assistant jobs on television and film productions.

It has been accepted for inclusion in Media Studies - Theses by an authorized administrator of SURFACE. For more information, please contact [email protected]. Abstract When it aired in Fall 2011 on Fox, Terra Nova was an experiment in creating a cult television program that appealed to a mass audience. This thesis is a case study of that experiment. I conclude that the show failed because of its attempts to maintain the sophistication, complexity and innovative nature of the cult genre while simultaneously employing an overly simplistic narrative structure that resembles that of mass audience programming. Terra Nova was unique in its transmedia approach to marketing and storytelling, its advanced special effects, and its dystopian speculative fiction premise. Terra Nova’s narrative, on the other hand, presented a nostalgically simple moralistic landscape that upheld old-fashioned ideologies and felt oddly retro to the modern SF TV audience. Terra Nova’s failure suggests that a cult show made for this type of broad audience is impossible.
