The absolute best thing to do in Hardanger is to experience the combination between the Glacier and the Fjord, the special thing in Jondal is the short distance between these two experiences, you can easily do both thing in one day! The best fjord experience is from a cockpit in a sea kayak. You will get the feeling of being a part of the fjord, it’s impossible to come closer the water element without being wet. Facts Daily we arrange sea-kayaking trips on the Hardanger fjord. The trips start from our booking center Juklafjord situated in the middle of Jondal city center, 30 meters from the Hardangerfjord. After an introduction and adjustment of equipment, you are ready for a real fjord experience from the cockpit in a real sea kayak. We start with basic technics, how to paddle, control the kayak, and what to do if you fail and turn over and become wet. When you feel safe and can control the kayak the guide will start the trip to Joaeset or other destination, depending on waves, weather etc. From the fjord, you will have magnificent view to the mountain and the fjord landscape. Season These kayaking tours are on request. The season is from 10th of June until 4th of September. Total time length 3-4 hours. The total paddle tour is about 5 km. Equipment All your clothing can be wet if you are unlucky and turn over; you should wear warm clothing for example wool. Bring also extra set of clothing so you can change after the trip. You should also bring a towel. It is possible to have a shower at Juklafjord after the trip if you want. We provide all necessary kayaking equipment.     FOLGEFONNA Fjord to ice cap 2° 3° Folgefonna National Park Folgefonna National Park National park in a national landscape The first mention of Folgefonna which we know of is in a book written by Peder Claussøn Friis “Norriges oc Omliggende Øers sandfærdige Bescriffuelse” in 1613. Friis found the Folgefonn peninsula magni­ ficent and dramatic. The landscape in this part of Hardanger is so beautiful it bears comparison with the most outstanding places in Europe. Folgefonna is the third largest ice cap in Norway, all of 168 km2. It probably reaches a maximum thickness of 300-400 m. If we take 150 m as an aver­ age, Folgefonna has about 30 km3 of ice. Its highest point (1662 m a.s.l.) is believed to be one of the wettest places in Norway, receiving an estimated annual precipitation of around 5500 mm. The natural environment surrounding Folgefonna is dominated by the proximity of a large ice cap. There are numerous rushing rivers, and many lakes and rivers have the characteristic opaque emerald­ green colour of glacial meltwater. The park includes the next largest area lacking major infrastructure in the county of Hordaland. From the valley to the summits. Sommarbalansen ser ut til å være ganske lik over heile Folgefonna. Målingane indikerer at vinterbalansen kan vere svært påvirka av vindtransport som gir eit meir komplisert akkumulasjonsmønster. Vinter- og sommarbalanse på Folgefonna var i gjennomsnitt om lag 130% av vinter- og sommarbalansen på Hardangerjøkulen i åra med samtidige målinarir. Samanlikning av vinter- og sommarbalansen sine høgdefordelingskurver viser at vinterbalansen var større på Folgefonna enn på Hardangerjøkulen i samme høgdenivå, medan sommarbalansen var større på Hardangerjøkulen enn på Folgefonna. Fordi mesteparten av (den undersøkten delen av) Hardangerjøkulen sitt areal ligg høgare enn toppen av Folgefonna vart like vel sommarbalansen større på Folgefonna enn på Hardangerjokulen.

    Blue Ice Hike Botna Glacier, Folgefonna (on request) You will meet us in the morning breeze from the glacier. In anticipation of a different landscape ahead we find our way past running water and over burnished slopes of naked rock. At length the glacier lies before us. Interminable forces hardness in ice! We rope ourselves together and step out onto Folgefonna. We set off, through frozen valleys and past conical towers of ice, in search of a fairy tale in blue. You will feel your spikes biting into the ice and the pleasure of teamwork with those who share the same climbing rope. You are safe in an alien world! Finally you will feel how the white plateau lifts you up to give you a breathtaking view of the ocean to the west. Down at the fjord once more you will be embraced by the pale greens of young birches on the hillsides. You will probably now have the untouched glacier landscape and the view of the ocean in west branded into your memory forever! Facts This trip start with about 1.5 hiking in spectacular surroudig ature fro Jukla Power “tatio to Botna glacier, some glacier rivers has to be crossed. At the glacier we take on all glacier equipment, and after a safety brief the trip goes straight up the Botna glacier ice fall, then crossing over the top of Juklavass glacier and over to Jordal glacier (where Folgefonn Summer ski center is located). This trip is a coplete glacier experiece. The feeling of climbing an ice fall and meet the glacier plateau with magnificent view of the Hardanger fjord, North Sea, Rosendal alps and the Folgefonna plateau is fantastic.
