4. Consultancy Projects 諮詢項目

In the past ten years, Professor H. Chua has been responsible for numerous industrial and commercial environmental-engineering, F & B, and biotechnology-related consultancy, product-development and technology transfer projects for such clients as Government Departments, industrial and commercial companies in HK, China, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, , the Philippines and . Professor Chua has been responsible for a total of over HK$ 26,000,000 worth of high-level consultancy projects. Professor H. Chua has won the PolyU Outstanding Consultant Award for 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006.

Prof. H. Chua has, over the past years, designed and taught B.Eng. and M.Sc. courses in Water and Wastewater Treatment Technology, Advanced Water/Wastewater Treatment and Sludge Disposal, Environmental Biotechnology, Environmental Quality Monitoring and Assessment, Environmental Studies, Environmental Chemistry and Biology, Fluid Mechanics, Sampling and Analytical Instrumentation Techniques, Solid and Hazardous Wastes, and Industrial Waste Treatment Technologies.

Professor Chua has been receiving excellent student feedbacks for teaching in annual surveys, averaged above 4.2 out of full score of 5.0 which is among the highest in the University.

1992 – 2000 Environmental Laboratories Officer – in charge of Water and Waste Laboratory, Water Analysis Laboratory, Air Laboratory and Noise Laboratory. Managed 10 research personnel, 1 senior technician, 4 technicians and 1 laboratory labour worker. Responsible for the establishment of laboratories and workshops when the institute was in the transition of upgrading from Polytechnic to Polytechnic University.

2003 – 2012 Director - PolyU-HIT Joint Research Centre for Water and Wastewater Technology. Arranged for undergraduate student exchanges and summer training programmes. Established a number of R & D programmes. Supervision of Ph.D. candidates. The PolyU Shenzhen Technology Park is a 10 million-dollar industrial collaborative venture with 20 high-calibre research staff under my leadership.

2001 – 2003 Academic Programme Co-ordinator - for Academic Programme, B.Eng. (Hons.) in Civil and Structural Engineering, Established an all-new outcome-based programme curricula, which is a combination of the previous B.Eng. (Hons.) in Civil and Environmental Engineering and B.Eng. (Hons.) in Civil and Structural Engineering. Successfully led the Programme Committee of 26 professors and lecturers through the academic and professional accreditation by HKIE in April 2009.

2002 – 2012 Chief Technical Officer – for Acumen Environmental Engineering Co Ltd, which is a HK PolyU Spin-Off (JV) Company based on an intellectual property of a proprietary photocatalytic oxidation technology. Responsible for a good number of turn-key, BOT, process design and high-level technology transfer projects.

2006 – date Sector Specialist – for Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications. Have participated in a number of academic accreditation exercises, including a number of IVE Programmes.

2012 - date Faculty Dean – for Faculty of Science and Technology with three Departments, namely Department of Construction technology and Engineering, Department of Food and Health Sciences, and Department of Information and Innovation Technology. As the founding Dean of the Faculty, standing with a staff strength of 100, I have (1) established the management structure for academic, administrative, technical support and research teams, (2) attained successful accreditation status of 16 academic programmes, (3) built up one of the most active R & D faculties in the Territories, and (4) established an extensive network for industrial collaborations.
