Gossip Girl has a lot of real life situations that it represents. Young people are always attached to their phones and social media websites. Bullying happens through these site just like they did in Gossip Girl. One thing would be said about someone, another would hear it, and then it would all be posted on social media within minutes. I think that things like that end up leading to cyber bullying because most of the time it’s the same people that’s getting talked about and the rumors just keep getting crazier when they weren’t true to begin with. Just like all of the reasons that were said as to why Serena came back to the Upper East Side. Some believed that she went away to have a baby because she was pregnant, others said it was because of drugs or something else. When she got back she found out that her brother was in a treatment center for trying to commit suicide, and their mother Lily was telling everyone that he was visiting his Aunt in Miami because she did not want everyone to think that she was such a bad parent that her daughter fled New York because of multiple reasons and her son tried to kill himself. Even when Eric would say he was ready to get back to his normal life, she still kept him there because she wasn’t ready to have everyone talking about if he really went to Miami or not. Also, during ‘Ivy Week’ at the private school, Constance, that they go to, it is considered the most stressful week of high school for them. I feel like that compares to the week that everyone takes the ACT or SAT your junior year of high school. however it is different because they get to meet all of the representatives from each Ivy week school since they all come from wealthy families. They get a head start on getting into the school when people with less money have a lot harder of a time getting in.

Propose In the show Gossip Girl, it is all about telling secrets and spreading gossip about each other. The title says it all. Throughout the series lies get spread about characters that affects how they feel and how people think about them. I think that Gossip Girl was an example of cyber-bullying. Cyber-bullying is a real world problem that affects teenagers in this time and sometimes even leads to death. I feel like it is a really strong message being sent through the show about how gossip can completely destroy a person. I intend to use cyber-bullying as my research topic, and look into how much it actually affects teenagers and how many teens end up taking their own life or hurting themselves from it.
