Course Catalogue The Catalogue of Courses is available on the web at http://www.abdn.ac.uk/registry/courses. Courses at level 5 are NOT available to visiting students.

The course code indicates when the course runs. The first two letters denote the subject. The first digit indicates the level of the course. The second digit indicates when the course starts: 0 = course starts at the beginning of semester 1 ; 3 = course starts in week 7 of semester 1 (for 6 wks) 5 = course starts at the beginning of semester 2 ; 8 = course starts in week 7 of semester 2 (for 6 wks) e.g. EC3520 is an Economics course at third year level which runs in the second semester only.

NB: Visiting students must choose at least 50% of their courses from the subject area listed in the bilateral agreement signed by their home university with the University of Aberdeen.

ECTS credits Aberdeen credits should be halved to find the equivalent rate in ECTS credits i.e. 20 Aberdeen credits = 10 ECTS credits. The normal workload for Aberdeen students is 120 credits (60 ECTS credits) per year i.e. 60 (30 ECTS credits) per semester. This is the workload that is expected of visiting students.

Normally, visiting students may apply to take courses at levels 1, 2 and 3. All course choices are subject to timetabling and the previous study which applicants have undertaken. Advice will be given by the relevant Departmental Coordinator where appropriate. Students wishing to take courses in English literature and linguistics at level 3 must sit a Diagnostic Test (courses at level 4 not available to these students). Further information can be found at: http://www.abdn.ac.uk/english/international/erasmus.php

English Language Training Applicants must have a good level of English prior to their arrival. Pre-sessional courses are available in August-September and other courses are available during each semester. These courses do not carry credits. It is strongly hoped that ERASMUS students will not require this additional support. Payment of a fee is required for attendance (http://www.abdn.ac.uk/languagecentre).

Accommodation University accommodation is limited. Incoming ERASMUS students may apply for a place in University accommodation if they submit their initial applications by the stated deadline. The online application for accommodation cannot be completed until students have received confirmation of their acceptance from the University of Aberdeen which will contain the required information. Acceptance information will not be sent until students’ applications have been approved by the academic department concerned. A place in university accommodation cannot be guaranteed.

Extensions Students accepted for one semester only may NOT apply to extend their period of study at the University of Aberdeen.
