I've never read one of these film comics before, but I remembered liking this movie and figured the comic would be an interesting way to introduce the story to my kids ages 3 and 5. The artwork is great and the story works well in this format. It's been a long time since I saw this movie so I'm as excited about volume 2 as the kids :. Mistress Masham's Repose is my first As soon as I saw the name Arrietty in the title I knew the book would have something to do with the Borrowers and had to read it. This is the film adaptation manga of the Japanese anime film produced by Studio Ghibli most internationally famous for "Howl's Moving Castle". The film was released in an English version this past Feb. It is Reason for Reading: The Vol. 1 is my 2nd favourite "little people" book. It is a great quasi-adaptation of Mary Norton's "The Borrowers". The Secret World of Arrietty (Film Comic) 1 goes up to the point Vol. 1 the boy has discovered Arrietty and her parents have decided they will have to move now for safety's sake. The anime graphics straight from the film, are beautiful and the book is a joy to both behold and read. There is a very slight Japanese flavour to the story but only in a few The Secret World of Arrietty (Film Comic) details which just adds a neat addition to the story. One thing I particularly liked was that Arrietty's father, Pod, is not the usual bumbling chubby fool. In this adaptation, he is a broad shouldered he-man type of guy. A man of few words but obviously the take-charge "man of the house. View 1 comment. For more reviews, check out my blog: Craft-Cycle This is a good comic adaptation of the first half of the film, The Secret World of Arrietty. This is a good book to read if you want to really look at the artwork of the movie. The stills make it perfect for examining the details of the artwork and scenery. There are a few moments that definitely work better in the film rather than Vol. 1 written format. Also, the action words added "Glance" seem a little silly at times. Same Vol. 1 the sound words. There is only so many times I can read the word "huff" without getting a little bored. Overall a good book, especially for fans of the movie or those who want a sneak peak before watching it. Also, you should watch it, because it is magical. Dec 29, Sarah Hay rated it really liked it Shelves: jj-graphic-novel. Entertaining story based on the Borrower series which I loved when I was younger. Arrietty and her family are tiny people live under the house of some 'Beans' human beings where they borrow only what they need. They cannot let the Beans see them, but when a young boy comes to the house he spots Arrietty on several occasions. Arrietty thinks that they can trust him but her parents disagree. This isn't my favourite Ghibli movie but I still think the manga is a lot of fun! The art is fantastic and the idea of it is really interesting! Jul 12, Vol. 1 rated The Secret World of Arrietty (Film Comic) it was ok. This first volume is just setting the scene really; not much happens. It is still enjoyable and the art is lovely. This book is filled with colorful pictures and lots of text. The sweet story is based off the movie the borrowers. The story is about a young girl and her family and how they live their lives as borrowers. They have been very sneaky up until a human boy notices the little girl borrower. The human boy and little girl become friends while trying to hide their friendship from their families since they are very different. I loved the movie The Borrowers when I was a kid so reading this brought back lots of memories and it reminded me of the movie so much while reading it. The book is actually the exact same layout as the movie The Secret World of Arrietty. The book is very long with lots of text. The book is great for kids who love fantasy books and love imagination. Since its Volume 1 The Secret World of Arrietty (Film Comic) will have kids wanting to read more of The Secret World of Arrietty (Film Comic) books to continue the story of the little girl and her human friend.
