General Bunting Underwear Has to be Up to Standards Too -Todd Kennedy- A few weeks ago, General Farrell felt compelled to write a memo to the faculty concerning their choice of underwear, because apparently some professors were either wearing their underwear improperly or not wearing them at all. Perish the thought. After my initial disgust of thinking about the Virginia Militia’s under wear, or lack thereof, I forced myself onward through the memo. In it, the Dean reminds the faculty that underwear “will be worn with the uniform,” and reminds them that Army regulations require men to wear white under garments and women to wear appropriate foundation garments. I’m still not exactly certain what “foundation” underwear is. The gist of the memo ap-' pears to be aimed at the white t-shirts under the summer uniforms, but still, the memo got my mind a-churning. My first thought made me think, just what does the Virginia Militia wear for underwear? What is the cartoon character of choice? Mickey Mouse? Taz? The possibilities were endless, so I took it as my personal duty to find out. So, I set up a sting operation in Cocke Hall. The results were swift and brief (excuse the pun). First of all, my fears were verified. To my horror, not a single member of the English Dept, was wearing any underwear. Apparently, upon receiv ing the memo the entire dept, decided to protest. A member of the depart ment was even quoted as saying, “This time he has crossed the line, I’ll get him for this! Does he really expect me to follow HIS rules?” The Dean himself has apparently taken drastic measures to help his cause. “I can’t ask them to do what I’m not willing to do,” he claimed. Our mr team of undercover agents were aghast to witness him undress. We quickly f9 discovered that he has taken to wearing BDU bikini underwear with airborne stamps sewed on all around the elastic band, in order to “lead by example!” All in all, the study of the effects of the memo provided many disgusting dis coveries. Some men were wearing dainty lace panties, while others were wearing box ers big enough for their entire department. But if the men were shocking, the Virginia Militia ladies took the cake. The ladies ap parently ranged from crotchless underwear in Scott Shipp to a girdle on the other end of post. Lets just say that these women were not my idea of a Victoria’s Secret cata log. Still, I think the memo was good all-in-all. I mean, if a person seeks to find a commission in the Virginia Militia, then it is only fitting that they devote their entire life to the cause. I mean, if you accept a public position, then everything should be public. Furthermore, the corps should take this concept to heart and follow the faculty’s example. We too, should impose an under gORETlS'SMART wear policy and enforce it with the G.C. I mean, aren’t undies the most important thing about the VMI experience?
