Harvey* This Article focuses on the oft-neglected intersection of racially skewed outcomes and anti-competitive markets. Through historical, contextual, and empirical analysis, the Article describes the state of Hollywood motion-picture distributionfrom its anti- competitive beginnings through the industry's role in creating an anti-competitive, racially divided market at the end of the last century. The Article's evidence suggests that race-based inefficiencies have plagued the film distribution process and such inefficiencies might likely be caused by the anti-competitive structure of the market itself, and not merely by overt or intentional racial-discrimination.After explaining why traditional anti-discrimination laws are ineffective remedies for such inefficiencies, the Article asks whether antitrust remedies and market mechanisms mght provide more robust solutions. -

Hana Mae Lee Has Perfect Pitch H&M + Margiela Target + Neiman
NOVEMBER 2012 FREE Hana Mae Lee Has Perfect Pitch H&M + Margiela Target + Neiman Marcus MGM Grand Gambles on Vietnam Happiness From Bai Ling yellowmags.com from t h E E d i t or i N c h i ef Each year, I have the pleasure of making a trip to Beverly Hills to attend the annual Operation Smile gala in support of a charity in which I have strong conviction. Whereas, I usually visit for three or four days, this time was for only two. As is often the case, the less time one has, the more there is to do. I am not complaining, mind you, because it resulted in two wonderful interviews that are included in this issue. We first interviewed Bai Ling several years ago when she was filming Love Ranch with Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci. This year, we were fortunate to have her join us at the Operation Smile gala where she attracted considerable interest on the red carpet as she struck her signature “Bai Ling” poses. The following day, we met for an interview during which Bai offered us some insight into what drives her and counters some of her public persona. If you happen to look at her acting resume on imdb, you cannot help but be impressed by the sheer volume of this actor’s work. Millions of fans have enjoyed the film Pitch Perfect which was released last month. I had not had the opportunity to see it when I received a call from Hana Mae Lee’s publicist asking if I would like to interview her. -

The Human Aura
The Human Aura Manual compiled by Dr Gaynor du Perez Copyright © 2016 by Gaynor du Perez All Rights Reserved No part of this book may be reproduced or distributed in any form or by any means without the written permission of the author. INTRODUCTION Look beneath the surface of the world – the world that includes your clothes, skin, material possessions and everything you can see - and you will discover a universe of swirling and subtle energies. These are the energies that underlie physical reality – they form you and everything you see. Many scientific studies have been done on subtle energies, as well as the human subtle energy system, in an attempt to verify and understand how everything fits together. What is interesting to note is that even though the subtle energy systems on the earth have been verified scientifically as existing and even given names, scientists are only able to explain how some of them work. Even though we do not fully comprehend the enormity and absolute amazingness of these energies, they form an integral part of life as we know it. These various energy systems still exist regardless of whether you “believe in them” or not (unlike Santa Claus). You can liken them to micro-organisms that were unable to be seen before the invention of the microscope – they couldn’t be seen, but they killed people anyway. We, and everything in the universe, is made of energy, which can be defined most simply as “information that vibrates”. What’s more interesting is that everything vibrates at its own unique frequency / speed, for example, a brain cell vibrates differently than a hair cell, and similar organisms vibrate in similar ways, but retain a slightly different frequency than the other. -

Ancient Technology Honors Seminar III, Inhabiting Other Lives, FIU Honors College (IDH 2003-U01) Fall Semester – 2018
Ancient Technology Honors Seminar III, Inhabiting Other Lives, FIU Honors College (IDH 2003-U01) Fall Semester – 2018 Instructor: Dr. Jill Baker Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11.00 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. Office location: DM 233, (305) 348-4100 Classroom: GC 286 Office hours: By Appointment or Borders Café GC, 10.15-10.45 a.m. Tu/Th email: [email protected] Purpose of the Course: The purpose of this class is to explore ancient technology and engineering. Thanks to archaeological excavation, monumental buildings, gates, city walls, roads, and ships have been discovered. These sometimes-gigantic structures were constructed without the benefit of bull dozers, cranes, lifts, drills, or any of the modern tools with which we are familiar and lived in relative luxury. So, how did the ancient people move materials and build these amazing cities with surprising amenities? This class seeks to elucidate the ingenuity of the ancient mind in order to understand their technology which in turn will help us to better understand our own and apply these, and new, ideas to the future. Questions that will be addressed include what the ancients knew, when and how did they know it; what machines and tools did they use and for what purposes; how does technology and engineering help society advance; how can we apply these principles to our world and to the future? Fall Semester: The big stuff - monumental constructions, residential dwellings, urban planning, etc. Spring Semester: The smaller things – machines, maritime transportation, terrestrial transportation, medicine, time-keeping, etc. This syllabus will be distributed on the first day of class in the spring semester. -
