In my thesis I have focused on the alpha-taxonomyof two poorly known families Eulichadidae and Callirhipidae occurring predominantlyin forests of tropical areas.Both families areclassified as incertaesedis within the seriesElateriformia.

The smďl elateriformfamily Eulichadidaecomprises of two extant genera:the monoýpic Califomian genusStenocolus LeConte, 1853,and the predominatelyOriental genusEulichas Jacobson,l9l3, with 42 describedspecies. The larvae ofboth geneÍaare aquatic,while the adultslive on vegetationneaÍ wateÍ, and especiallythe genusEulichas is often attractedat light.

Altogether182 taxaat the specieslevel belongingto six generaare cunently classiftedin the family Callirhipidae.Members of the family occur mainly in tropics of Oriental,Australian and Neotropicalzoogeographical regions. Larvae feed on rottenwood, adultsare collectedon deadtree trunks, but mostofall they are attractedat light.

REVISION OF THE GENUS EULICIIAS JACOBSON, 1913 (COLEOPTERA: EULICHADIDAE) I. INTRODUCTION, MORPHOLOGY OF ADULTS, KEY TO SUBGENERA AND SPECIES GROUPS. AND OF E. A NEW SPECIES OF EULICHAS (COLEOPTERA: EULICHADIDAE) FROM LAOS t21 Eulichas pantherina sp- nov. is describedfrom two localities in southem,and north-eastem Laos respectively.The new speciesbelongs to the E pacholatkoi speciescomplex ofthe E funebris speciesgroup, and can be distinguishedby the diÍferentshape of male genitalia. Eulichas pantherina sp. nov. has a lanceolatemedian lobe and paramereswith a very small subapicalhook moved to the midlengthofthe paramere.The key to identificationofspecies of theE. pacholaltoi speciescomplex is updatedto includethe newly describedspecies.
