LEGENDS, from page A1 Pardon their progress Adam became the youngest driver ever to win the trophy last year at the age of 19, and Isaac took the record this year by winning the IronMan at only 17. “There’s always competition,” Adam said, laughing. While Isaac does drive periodically, he most often leaves that job to Adam, while he focuses on tuning their 2000 Chevy Camaro. A senior co-op student at Grayson County High School, Isaac goes up against seasoned engineers as he preps the car for races, checks the track, and performs a variety of other duties. “He does all the tuning on a laptop,” Adam explained, adding that Isaac’s system monitors every aspect of the car during the race as well, so they can review it and tweak their game plan after runs. “This car could not do nothing if it wasn’t for him,” Adam said of his younger brother. “All I do is drive it, he does most of the work before I go on the track. I just have to put my trust in him.” The brothers have taken first place in 23 out of 26 races, coming in second in the other three. At the Holly LS Fest in Bowling Green this September, the Prestons not only set a record with their 8.5 second run, but proceeded to beat that record four times before the Photos/Rebecca Morris event was over, finishing up with an impressive 8.44 run at Crews from Scotty’s Contracting mill the asphalt around the Grayson County Courthouse late Thursday 162 miles per hour. night. Picture perfect Yvette Kopp’s fourth-grade class at Lawler Elementary had an exciting day participating in our Newspapers in Education program on Wednesday. The students have been studying quota- tions, commas, and graphic sources, which aid in writing. “Visual aids are so important in our comprehension,” Kopp explained to her class. The students used copies of the News- Gazette to locate photos and decide how those pictures match up with and help to explain the articles they are attached to. The kids also took the opportunity to find quotes and highlight commas and quotation marks in the articles they were reading.
