- July 2018 - July Certain times of the year, we seem to notice more algae, duckweed, the aquatic weeds within the ponds and canals and has hired Sitex and other nuisance plants in the ponds. Some ponds seem to be fine, to perform these maintenance functions, including hand removal, while others are not as pretty. Part of the reason for this growth is due introducing grass carp, installing plant material to help absorb the to warmer weather and lack of rainfall. Rain helps flush the ponds and excess nutrients in the pond, and applying chemical treatments as reduces the visibility of nuisance plants. The age of a pond is also a needed. Because all the stormwater retention ponds are interconnected factor, since more mature ponds have fewer problems and generally and subject to various governmental permits (such as South Florida look nicer throughout the year. • Do not fertilize the pond or lake or apply fertilizers closer than 20 feet from the shoreline

• Do not blow lawn clippings or other plant material into the ponds or into the street where it can run through the drainage system

Please visit website www.CelebrationCDD.com for more information related to the aquatic maintenance activities and other services of the Celebration CDD. You may also contact us at 407-566-1935 or [email protected] with any questions, comments, or concerns. Enterprise CDD – Utility Protocols

The Enterprise CDD (“District”) manages the water, sewer, and reuse utilities for all of Celebration, pursuant to a large-user agreement with Toho Water Authority (“Toho”) who provides these utility services to the District. Despite the District’s efforts to educate utility customers over recent years about non-permitted items in the sewer, we continue to have clogged pipes (notably from rags, towels, and other non- flushable materials), which results in warnings from Toho about these prohibited items causing obstructions in the utility system.

The sewer system is designed to carry water, human waste, and biodegradable toilet paper only. Other products labeled as “flushable” often are not, and we ask that customers discontinue flushing anything else down the sewer system, including but not limited to disposable diapers and wipes, rags or cloths, facial wipes and tissues, feminine sanitary products, food, and unused medications or vitamins.

We need everyone’s cooperation with basic utility protocols and practices on what is permitted to be flushed, and what is not permitted. The District needs to remain in compliance with our agreement with Toho so we do not incur any additional expenses due to repairs or extensive maintenance. We appreciate your cooperation. Women’s Initiative Nurturing Girls’ Strength – WINGS – concluded its fourth and biggest year yet with a “Power Breakfast” celebrating the history and power of women on Friday, May 18 at Town Hall. WINGS is a program of Celebration Foundation that supports both Celebration K-8 and Celebration High Schools. The Power Breakfast concluded a terrific year of programming at the K-8 and was attended by 130 5th-8th-grade students who attended monthly “Power Lunches” throughout the school year. While enjoying pizza and sandwiches, the kids discuss issues that are relevant to their social and academic challenges.

Our keynote speaker, WKMG Sports Director Jamie Seh, galvanized this year’s Power Breakfast. Jamie shared her experiences growing up as a girl who loved sports and wanted to forge a career in a male dominated industry. The kids were enthralled with her stories and inspiration for them to be tenacious in reaching for their dreams. WINGS is setting its sights on another big year and always welcomes We were also happy to welcome back our kick-off speaker from volunteers interested in helping with monthly Power Lunches. Working with CELEBRATION NEWS the Institute on the Constitution

“United We Stand – Central Florida” is a grassroots organization for Celebration and Central Florida residents. We are “a common-sense public policy club in support of the President, open to everyone.” - July 2018 Our June 13 meeting was devoted to remembering the history and meaning of July 4. Of course, we served apple pie, as American as it gets.

UWSCF entries in the July 4 parade will include one historic jeep, a truck full of goodies, a member’s sports car, people on foot and a motor bike. That just about covers all the means of personal transportation across this great country – except for our usual horse. There will be no meeting in July. In August we will resume our regular schedule of meetings the second Wednesday of the month, August 8.

In June, members of United We Stand CF were happy hosts of Jake MacAulay, President of the Institute of the Constitution (theamericanview.com). UWSCF members - educators, ministers, political figures and civic-minded residents who had completed the 12-lecture constitution course were eager for ways to take the Constitution message to their community at a broader level. Jake showed us the many different places in churches, government, the community and schools where we can offer help. One of the USWCF members, Ron vonBehrens, stated, “I recently completed the Institute on the Constitution twelve-week course. Jake’s leadership and the course material were excellent. I have been teaching U.S. Government at the college level for over 30 years. I will be incorporating a significant amount of the IOTC material into my course for the fall. I would highly recommend the course for anyone who wishes to substantially increase his or her knowledge of the U.S. Constitution.”

If you or your group wants to participate in or to host a class in the spring, please contact [email protected]. Courses are already set for the Celebration area and eastern Osceola County. Look for more news about the BIG Constitution Day Party and Fundraiser at the Artisan Clubhouse, Sunday, September 16.

See www.unitedwestandcf.com or contact us at: [email protected]. We have a Facebook page: (www.facebook.com/UnitedWeStandCF) where you will find new postings. 42 CELEBRATION NEWS - July 2018 43 CELEBRATION NEWS
