November 2017 Jimmy Buffett Discovers Buried Treasure! Volume 1 Available on Mailboat Records November 17th A few years ago, when legendary Nashville producer Buzz Cason sold his recording studio, there was some cleaning up to do. That is when Jimmy learned that they had found a sizeable collection of 1⁄4-inch tapes that were the In This Issue original demos of songs Jimmy had written and recorded for Buzz when he was writing for his publishing company in the late 60’s. It turned out that there were Pg 1: Buried Treasure over 125 songs in that pile of tape boxes. In addition to the song demos were Pg 2: Alzheimer’s Walk also the first recordings Travis Turk had engineered in Mobile, and that is Pg 3: San Diego Show where the whole story of Buried Treasure begins. Pg 4: Hurricane Benefit As Jimmy describes it: “There is a reason we are calling this collection of songs Pg 5: Tilleritaville and stories Buried Treasure – because they were literally buried in a closet in a Pg 6: Margaritaville U recording studio in Nashville for decades. They were discovered by an old friend, Pg 7: Sail On Tom Petty Travis Turk, who actually recorded these tracks in Mobile, Alabama, in 1969, and Pg 8: Sail On Tom Petty more in Nashville in the years following, when we both wound up moving there. Pg 9: Upcoming Events Travis eventually produced the first two albums I recorded in Nashville, as well. Pg 10: August Phlocking When we first found the tapes of Buried Treasure, I didn’t know that it would Pg 11: Phins To The West turn out to be such a unique situation where I’d actually get to honor and Pg 12: The Purple Pig introduce the people who started me out.” Pg 13: July Phlocking Buried Treasure will be available in standard and deluxe packaging. Pg 14: Reefer Releases Both releases contain 11 acoustic tracks and song-by-song narration by Pg 15: Escape to Broadway Jimmy Buffett. Members of our club carried our banner and flowers depicting their connection to the dreaded disease. This is a meaningful event for Parrot Heads as Jimmy Buffett lost his father to Alzheimer’s disease and our Club lost long time club member, Nellie Carlen to the disease as well. “Our club walks in this event every year not only to recognize Jimmy’s father and Nellie, but in memory of all of the people we know in our lives that have been effected by Alzheimer’s Disease.” said Board Member Suzan Langloise. In all, our club raised $1,625.00 for Alzheimer’s research. Following the walk our club had a Phlocking at Lopez & Lefty’s in Anaheim. Jerry Gontang played to the members in attendance. • Parrot Head Members Survived the Winter and Are Ready to Fly Into Some Sunny Warm Weather
Issue #26 Winter 2012 Business Tagline or Motto HELLO from the President's Perch CONTENTS : By the time this edition arrives, we will be almost through what has been a mild winter. I hope all of our Parrot Head members survived the winter and are ready to fly into some sunny warm weather. Things were certainly not mild or cold in our Berks County Parrot Head Club. Christmas in the Caribbean 2 In December we hosted another successful Toys for Tots party at the Christmas in the Caribbean Spruce and delivered more toys and cash to the Marines than any prior Afterparty 3 year. Things heated up even more with the 4th annual Christmas show Cabin Fever Festival 4 at the Miller Center on December 17th. The Club Trini band (Michael Photomontage I 5 Utley and Robert Greenidge) was enjoyed by all. Jimmy and the Parrots entertained almost 200 members and guests at the after party (in the Viva lounge) that included a “Quick Licks” featuring buffet and a few drinks. Through your efforts and your support of the show we raised $14,000 for Robert Greenidge 6 Crime Alert Berks. Toys for Tots 7 Winter Cabin Fever was next, and Berks Encore was the chosen charity this year. In our In Memoriam 7 efforts to make each event better than the one before, we changed a few things from 2011. Trivia 8 Thanks to the great support from Crowne Plaza and general manager Craig Poole, we held the Phledgling Phlockers 9 event on a Saturday Night for the first time.

The OCPHC was the national host for The Last Mango in Irvine Party. Word of the party went out on the club Facebook page and a pre-concert tailgate was planned near the event. Several club members joined the official Club RV to help prepare for the party. Much to our surprise, more than 10 additional RVs from all across the country joined us to get ready and gear up for the concert. Our old friend Jimmy Groovy showed up in costume and added to the pre-concert fun. Once inside the parking lot, Jerry Gontang played to the huge crowd In This Issue around the OCPHC event site. A.J.’s famous Cheeseburgers in Paradise were on the grill all were partying just like Bubba does in Pg 1: Last Mango in Irvine preparation for the concert. Once inside the venue, Jimmy and the CRB did not disappoint. The 26 song set included a tribute to Jimmy’s Pg 2: Andy’s Irvine Letter friend, Glenn Frey of The Eagles, who recently passed away. The show concluded in appropriate fashion with an acoustic version Pg 3: Tilleritaville of Lovely Cruise. November 21, 2011 Issue 270 Inside The Awards: Robert Deaton Just shy of two weeks since the 45th Annual CMA Awards, Country Aircheck spoke with Executive Producer Robert Deaton for his thoughts on the telecast, how it all came together and several of its memorable moments. CA: You’ve had some time to process the show and maybe decompress. What are your Robert Deaton thoughts in hindsight? RD: A lot of credit needs to be passed around because there are so many people – starting with the artists – who make it happen, but I feel like this was our best effort. Going into the show, what I really wanted to do was not compromise at all with Pub Scouts: EMI Nashville’s Eric Church buddies up with the backstage crowd at last week’s Chief Deconstructed show at Joe’s Pub in Chicago. Pictured (l-r) are any of the performances. I wanted each one to put the artist in the label’s Chuck Swaney and Angela Lange, Church, and WUSN’s Marci Braun, the best possible position. Bama Breeze Jimmy’s latest CD is scheduled to be released on October 10. Award winning bassist Glenn Worf, Mobile native Will Kimbrough, Little Feats’ Billy Payne, and Party At The End Of The World slide guitar master Sonny Landreth joined Jimmy and the resident Coral Weather With You Reefers in Key West last February at what was then the Party At The End Of The World. We knew better than to refer to it as such so early, but it Everybody's On The Phone was a working title. In between fishing and boating trips, and sampling the Whoop De Doo keys culinary offerings, “should I spend time on the treadmill or eat at Hogfish,” Jimmy and his talented troop started the “party” that ended as Nothin' But A Breeze “weather” in Mac McAnally’s studio in Muscle Shoals. Cinco De Mayo In Memphis All the talent trapped in the old ice house on Key West’s historic waterfront Reggabilly Hill set the substance for the new recording, and the style was added by Mac and Mr. Utley. Meanwhile, Jimmy was overseas watching World Cup soccer and Elvis Presley Blues hanging with Mark Knopfler – not exactly dire straits. A video was filmed last Hula Girl At Heart summer for the song “Bama Breeze” and Jimmy told the Boston Globe’s Steve Morse, “It's a tribute to those honky-tonks that line the Gulf Coast where Wheel Inside The Wheel I grew up on the Alabama, Mississippi, Florida coast of the Gulf. It's about Silver Wings the infamous Flora-Bama bar.

  • Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville
Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Retail Store Focuses on Greening Business and Reducing Carbon Footprint In 2007, SSC conducted a Green Office Audit for Margaritaville, helping them to create a sustainability policy that provided a positive social and environmental influence for the Key West community. SSC spent two days onsite with the company and hosted a store-wide workshop on the concept of sustainability. As part of the audit, SSC conducted a carbon footprint analysis, developed a sustainability action plan, and provided a strategy document explaining the larger opportunities to embrace sustainability. Services provided also included a carbon footprint analysis, sustainability action plan, and stakeholder communications. The following is an article by Key West Citizen Staff, Anne-Margaret Sobota that summarizes the Margaritaville sustainability journey: “The Green Mile: Key West Business Goes the Extra Mile to Operate with the Environment in Mind” It’s hard to hear the word Margaritaville without the melody “Wasting away again in Margaritaville... ” drifting to mind. But Margaritaville is trying to convince its employees and customers not to “waste away” if they can help it. Margaritaville Store employees have been working with a sustainability consultant to find ways to “green” the business and reduce its carbon footprint. Sunshine Smith, who runs Margaritaville Store operations, said the company always has operated with the environment in mind, but wondered if more could be done. “We always did recycle,” said Denise Di Salvo, a Margaritaville Store employee and member of its Giving Back Committee, “It just wasn’t as formal or as organized.” A year ago, the Giving Back Committee decided to add Environmental Giving to its program of donating 5 percent of net profit back to the community every month.

  • The Globalization of K-Pop: the Interplay of External and Internal Forces
THE GLOBALIZATION OF K-POP: THE INTERPLAY OF EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL FORCES Master Thesis presented by Hiu Yan Kong Furtwangen University MBA WS14/16 Matriculation Number 249536 May, 2016 Sworn Statement I hereby solemnly declare on my oath that the work presented has been carried out by me alone without any form of illicit assistance. All sources used have been fully quoted. (Signature, Date) Abstract This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic analysis about the growing popularity of Korean pop music (K-pop) worldwide in recent years. On one hand, the international expansion of K-pop can be understood as a result of the strategic planning and business execution that are created and carried out by the entertainment agencies. On the other hand, external circumstances such as the rise of social media also create a wide array of opportunities for K-pop to broaden its global appeal. The research explores the ways how the interplay between external circumstances and organizational strategies has jointly contributed to the global circulation of K-pop. The research starts with providing a general descriptive overview of K-pop. Following that, quantitative methods are applied to measure and assess the international recognition and global spread of K-pop. Next, a systematic approach is used to identify and analyze factors and forces that have important influences and implications on K-pop’s globalization. The analysis is carried out based on three levels of business environment which are macro, operating, and internal level. PEST analysis is applied to identify critical macro-environmental factors including political, economic, socio-cultural, and technological.
