Question for written answer E-005687/2020 to the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Rule 138 Antonio Tajani (PPE), Antonio López-Istúriz White (PPE), Dolors Montserrat (PPE), Paulo Rangel (PPE), Leopoldo López Gil (PPE), Francisco José Millán Mon (PPE), Salvatore De Meo (PPE), Fulvio Martusciello (PPE), Giuseppe Milazzo (PPE), Aldo Patriciello (PPE), Massimiliano Salini (PPE) Subject: Further cases of human rights infringements in Venezuela Over the last week, two Venezuelan institutions at the service of Nicolas Maduro, the Servicio Bolivariano de Inteligencia and the Dirección General de Contrainteligencia Militar, have committed a number of serious human rights violations against members of the interim government of Venezuelan President Juan Guaidò, and those working with that government. These include searches in the residences of ambassadors in Bulgaria and the Bahamas, and searches at the homes of several executives of the National Council for Judicial Defence and of some of their parents. Since personal freedom and being safe in one’s own home are fundamental rights, can the Vice- President of the Commission/High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy answer the following questions: 1. Is he aware of these events? 2. What measures will he take to protect the rights of Venezuelan citizens working with Juan Guaidò, who has been recognised by the EU as Venezuela's legitimate interim President? 3. Will he condemn these human rights infringements and take action to promote the restoration of freedom in Venezuela, putting political pressure on the Maduro regime? PE659.936v01-00.
