Livestreaming Pre-Recorded Concerts for Merchandise Sales and Artist Donations Livestreaming pre-recorded concerts for merchandise sales and artist donations HOW TEDESCHI TRUCKS BAND LEVERAGED PREVIOUSLY RECORDED FOOTAGE FROM THEIR 2019 BEACON THEATRE RESIDENCY TO CREATE A SUCCESSFUL NEW LIVESTREAM CONCERT SERIES. The Background Tedeschi Trucks Band is a Grammy-winning blues rock group founded by married couple Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks in 2010. The band has released four studio albums and two live albums, but is perhaps best known for their captivating live concerts. Among TTB’s repertoire, their annual fall residency at the Beacon Theatre in New York City stands supreme. Every October, thousands of fans pack the Beacon for sold-out show after sold-out show. 2020 looked to be no different ... and then COVID-19 came into the music industry like a wrecking ball, obliterating virtually every live show in its path. Unable to tour, and with their band and crew out of work, Tedeschi Trucks Band and their agent, Wayne Forte, began brainstorming creative ways to keep fans engaged while raising money for their crew. Their decision: To ticket a livestreamed recording of two nights from their 2019 Beacon residency while appealing for donations and selling merchandise to benefit the band and crew. The Problems As a well-oiled touring machine, Tedeschi Trucks Band knows how to promote their live shows. But marketing old shows felt like a completely different beast. Acting like the shows were new events was out of the question. TTB’s fans are diehards. Instead, Forte decided to make the livestream events about getting everyone back together to reminisce and enjoy a past live show while offering those same diehard fans the chance to see a concert they may have missed, either in favor of another night at the Beacon or because they had been unable to attend at all. This strategy made finding an online event platform the band’s highest priority. The features Tedeschi Trucks Band required included: Broadcast quality sound and picture Interactive features like live chat Merchandise sales Donation collection Technical customer support Affiliate marketing resources to leverage past tour venues Performance music licensing A ticket-buying experience that felt like a box office rather than a movie rental And an extra wrinkle: The decision to produce this ticketed event series was made late in September, with the goal of streaming the shows in October to coincide with the band’s traditional Beacon residency timing. That left less than a month to promote the shows and sell tickets. The Solutions Forte and Tedeschi Trucks Band chose Stellar as their online event platform due to Stellar’s robust feature set and commitment to giving back to the music industry by not charging commissions on donations, as well as parent company Goldstar’s 20+ years of event promotion experience. Less than 24 hours after partnering with Stellar, the event listing Tedeschi Trucks Band - From the Beacon Theatre 2019 was live, selling tickets and merchandise while generating donations. The Ticketing Solutions Stellar’s organizer support team collaborated with TTB to offer ticket buyers a variety of price points that included the livestream event, merchandise and a 72-hour video replay of the concert. Price point bundles included: $15 for a ticket to one of the two show dates $25 for access to both show dates $25 for one show ticket and one album download $40 for one show ticket and one TTB T-shirt $60 for the “All That I Need” Bundle: Two show tickets + two album downloads + one TTB T-shirt With Stellar’s add-on donation feature, TTB was also able to appeal for donations after fans had selected a bundle, removing the initial barrier of entry. Various donation tiers gave ticket buyers plenty of options to choose from, and Stellar’s real-time reporting allowed TTB’s merchandising team to instantly receive orders with the customer information needed for fulfillment. The Marketing Solutions With the ticketing infrastructure in place, Stellar’s marketing consultants worked with Forte to assist with his promotional strategy. TTB negotiated promotional relationships with past venues and marketing entities including Madison Square Garden to help spread the word of the event series. And with Stellar’s tracking links, Forte was able to keep tabs on the progress of each affiliate’s efforts. The Customer Service Solutions Stellar’s customer service team provided TTB’s customer service team extensive onboarding for Stellar’s platform and for the credit card processing system, Stripe. Among other benefits, Stripe allows event organizers to be the merchant of record. This feature gave the TTB customer service team control of all refunds and the ability to receive all ticket payments directly, without needing to wait for Stellar to authorize payouts. Stellar’s customer service team also provided direct technical support to any ticket buyers needing assistance during the entire run of sale, while also providing full-service support the day and night of each show’s stream. “Before Tedeschi Trucks Band worked with Stellar, the livestreams were either merely an afterthought or a side-note. Not anymore. The two shows we did with Stellar were truly handled as an ‘event’ of its own, from ticketing, to fan experience and interaction, to the actual streamed show; thousands of people bought tickets, purchased merchandise and donated to the band’s musician and crew support fund, generating some much-needed revenue during these difficult times.” - Wayne Forte, Agent, Tedeschi Trucks Band The Livestreaming Solutions Stellar’s live chat feature transformed the shows from simple recordings of concerts into truly interactive live events. Fans were able to communicate with each other, share memories of past shows, and plan to see in-person shows together in the future. Stellar’s live reaction emojis were also incorporated into the customer viewing experience, with emojis customized to match TTB’s brand. Tedeschi Trucks Band also utilized Stellar’s stream widget functionality, interactive buttons below the streaming video player that encouraged donations. Stellar’s organizer support team also handled the actual livestreaming of the shows and created the video replay listings. The Results The concert series generated tens of thousands of dollars for the band and crew while entertaining thousands of fans from around the world. Additionally, $26,656 was raised from add-on donations alone! 400% 250% 400+ 655 of goal for gross of goal for total merchandise items separate donations revenue tickets sold sold contributed The event series’ success is a testament first and foremost to Tedeschi Trucks Band’s incredible fanbase. It’s also proof that online events can be powerful revenue and fundraising tools, especially when using a professional platform such as Stellar. The Associated Press stated “Tedeschi Trucks Band has already released one of the great records of the year,” and following the band’s recent filming of Austin City Limits The Austin Chronicle added “There’s no contemporary match for the Tedeschi Trucks Band in that their third LP manages the nearly impossible combination of growth and improvement where none seems possible or necessary.” Since their inception in 2010, TTB have seen both of their previous albums debut in the Top 15 of the Billboard 200, and won a Grammy for their debut album Revelator, an album hailed by Rolling Stone as a “masterpiece.” They tour over 200 days of the year and have built a dedicated following around the world, one powerful performance at a time.

  • Doyle Bramhall II Is One of the Most Distinctive Vocalists, Guitarists
Doyle Bramhall II is one of the most distinctive vocalists, guitarists, composers and producers in contemporary music. Indeed, none other than Eric Clapton, with whom Bramhall has worked with for more than a decade, lauds him as one of the most gifted guitarists he has ever encountered. As the son of the late Texas music legend Doyle Bramhall, he was raised in a home filled with the blues and rock ’n’ roll styles indigenous to Texas. The elder Bramhall played drums and was also an accomplished songwriter and vocalist, not to mention a lifelong collaborator with childhood friends Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan, who composed such SRV signature tunes as “Change It” and “Life by the Drop.” But the younger Bramhall—a rare and distinctive guitarist who plays left-handed, but with his instrument strung for a right-hander and flipped backwards--had his own connections with the Vaughan brothers: Early in his career he was befriended and supported by Stevie. When he was 18, Bramhall was recruited by Jimmie to play with the Fabulous Thunderbirds. After Stevie’s tragic death in 1990, Bramhall II and Charlie Sexton formed the Arc Angels with Stevie Ray’s fabled Double Trouble rhythm section of drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon. The Arc Angels’ self-titled debut album yielded such widely popular songs as “Living in a Dream” and “Sent by Angels” before disbanding. Introducing himself as a solo artist in 1996 with Doyle Bramhall II, he followed with a pair of critically acclaimed albums, Jellycream(1999) and Welcome (2001). It was then that Bramhall’s unparalleled guitar mastery won the attention not only of Clapton but Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, who showcased him on his 1999, 2000 and 2002 In the Flesh concert tours and companion CD and DVD.

In so many ways, Tedeschi Trucks Band has bucked the odds: a band, on paper, doomed to fail and yet, here it is with its second studio recording, after the 2011 debut, Revelator and 2012 live album, Everybody's Talkin' (both, Sony Masterworks). In these days of escalating touring costs, the idea of an eleven-piece rock/soul/blues band being not just viable but successful would seem impossible. Then there's the decades-old unwritten rule: never date—or, worse, marry—one of your band mates.
