JOSÉ DE EUSEBIO, CONDUCTOR

José De Eusebio (Madrid, 1966) has been awarded with a Grammy (2001), the Cannes Classical Award (2002), was finalist to the Gramophone Awards (2001) and has also won the CD Compact Award for the Albéniz recording (Decca). This CD was received with international acclaim after its presentation at the 2001 Salzburg Musikfestspiele. His second major opera recording for the Decca label was Henry Clifford.

Deutsche Grammophon has just released his recording of the opera Pepita Jiménez (2006) again with Plácido Domingo. In the same recording project he is also due to record San Antonio de la Florida, Magic Opal, Poèms d´amour, Lancelot and Albéniz´s orchestral works, as well as other major operatic projects with Domingo.

José De Eusebio has conducted the staged world première of Merlin at (recorded by BBC-Opus Arte for a DVD; live broadcasted by the U.E.R., and world wide acknowledged), as well as the world premières of Tomás Marco´s El Viaje Circular, Teatro Imaginario and El Caballero de la Triste Figura.

Previous recordings by José De Eusebio include over seventeen Cds released by labels like Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, Col Legno, etc. He has premiered over a hundred works and is often asked to conduct major symphonic pieces from a wide repertoire that includes Turangalîla Symphonie, Mahler symphonies, and most romantic and impressionism works.

Mtro. De Eusebio has conducted in such important halls as Musikverein in Vienna, as well as in the main venues of Mannheim, Hamburg, Stuttgart, München. He has worked with soloists like Plácido Domingo, Carlos Álvarez,

He took part as pianist in the Concert for the Heroes which was organized in Los Angeles after September the 11th 2001, being the only Spanish Grammy nominee taking part in this event.

Trained as a pianist and conductor in France, Austria, Hungary, Spain and the United States (as a Fulbright scholar), José De Eusebio has worked with such musical personalities as Gyögy Kurtág, Péter Solymos (Franz Liszt Academy), Vlado Perlemuter, Charles Bruck, Joaquín Achúcarro, Guillermo González, Gustav Meier, David Milnes, Murray Sidlin, and has studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum, Wiener Masterclasses, Pierre Monteaux School, Aspen Music Festival.

José De Eusebio has performed in Argentina, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Check Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Sweden, Taiwan and the United States, as well as in different International Festivals like the Aspen music Festival in the USA. His performance at the Saarbrücken Musikfestspiele was broadcasted live for Europe by the U.E.R. He has conducted most of the Spanish orchestras.

His interest on recovering the past and present musical heritage draws also Mtro. De Eusebio to work intensely on contemporary music. He was Music Director of Sax-Ensemble (National Music Prize) from 1997 to 2002, and has premiered numerous works by world renowned composers. José De Eusebio continues researching and performing the unknown lyrical and symphonic repertoire and conducts different recording projects such as the important recovery of the Albéniz opera Merlin, which he premièred (concert version in 1998, staged, 2003). Editor of the critical edition of Merlin, Henry Clifford, Pepita Jiménez, San Antonio de la Florida, El Puerto, Poémes d´amour, José De Eusebio is directing the CD recovery of Albéniz´s complete lyrical works for Decca and Deutsche Grammophon.
