Important notice

The new Berlin Airport BER will not open on 2 June 2012! It is now scheduled to open on 17 March 2013. Consequences:

BER will not be in use in August 2012! All flights - including your flights in August - will have to be rescheduled to the former airports Berlin-Tegel (TXL) or Berlin-Schönefeld (SXF). It might be possible that arrival or departure times change, or - in the worst case - flights may be cancelled due to the limited capacity of both former airports. For this reason: check the validity of your flight tickets and find out whether you arrive and depart in TXL or in SXF!

Public transportation: o from TXL to PTB: take Bus X9 (departs every 10 min) at Tegel airport. Get off at U Ernst-Reuter-Platz. Duration: 16 minutes o from SXF to PTB: the fastest connection depends on the departure time (see: www.bvg.de). An easy connection with only one change is as follows: Take line S9 at S Flughafen Berlin-Schönefeld Bhf (direction S+U Pankow) and get off at S+U Schönhauser Allee. Change to line at S+U Schönhauser Allee (direction: U Ruhleben). Get off at U Ernst-Reuter-Platz. Travel time: 76 minutes. The public transportation fare will increase on 1st August 2012: o “Berlin AB” ticket 2,40 Euro o “Berlin ABC” ticket 3,10 Euro o Day ticket AB: 6,50 Euro

Travel information

Public transport within Berlin mainly consists of: U-Bahn = underground trains S-Bahn = urban rail RB Regionalbahn, RE Regionalexpress = regional trains Bus, Tram, and some ferries

For information about local public transport see www.bvg.de (connection query page; route network of the underground and urban rail; tickets & fares)

For a city map see www.stadtplandienst.de - this map includes U-Bahn, S-Bahn and bus lines.

Tickets: When travelling within the city of Berlin you need a “Berlin AB” ticket (2,40 Euro). When you leave the city area you have to choose a “Berlin ABC” ticket (3,10 Euro). The ABC ticket is needed for a trip to and from airport Berlin-Brandenburg-International (BBI). A day ticket AB costs 6,50 Euro (useful at the weekend when exploring the city). All AB-/ABC-Tickets are valid for U-Bahn, S-Bahn, RB, RE, Bus, Tram, and the BVG-ferries. (The U-Bahn and S-Bahn are operated by different companies, so tickets look slightly different. But you can also use the S-Bahn tickets for the U-Bahn and vice versa.)

www.bvg.de: The Berlin tariff area is subdivided into zones A, B and C. Zone A: Berlin's inner city up to and including the urban rail ring (“S-Bahn-Ring”) Zone B: outside the urban rail ring up to the city boundary Zone C: Greater Berlin (area approx. 15 km around the State of Berlin), including the City of Potsdam

Single Tickets entitle you to travel with any number of changes towards your destination via a direct travel route or one necessitated by works or other network alterations. They are valid for a maximum of two hours. You can use the buses, trams and urban rail and underground trains of all transport companies within the Berlin fare zones (A, B and C), including regional rail transport and ferries. Within the two-hour validity of the Single Ticket you may change trains/buses, etc. or interrupt your journey as often as you wish. Return and round trips are not permitted.

Single Tickets requiring validation must be validated immediately on starting travel.

For a detailed map of all S-Bahn, U-Bahn and regional train lines see: www.bvg.de.

Connection from the new BBI Airport to PTB: - not yet published Airport Berlin Tegel will close on 2 June 2012. After that date all air traffic will be processed at airport Berlin-Brandenburg-International (BBI, former airport Schönefeld). www.berlin- airport.de Consider at least 60 - 90 min of travelling time to the airport.
