Multi-skilled project teams have been working on two significant projects: one to 26-31 procure a vessel to replace the 1982-built THV Patricia, and another to manage the Charity update safe removal of the now-deteriorating Royal Sovereign Lighthouse. Elsewhere it was great to see the twin successes of Maritime Safety Week and 32-35 World Marine Aids to Navigation Day—both on 1 July—as our maritime partners at Partner profile: UK the Department for Transport and IALA further commit themselves to raising the Hydrographic Office profile of the national and global maritime sector. -

NATIONAL HERITAGE PROTECTION PL AN 2011-14 OVERVIEW REPORT MAY 2011- MAY 2014 NHPP 2011-14 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This report was compiled by English Heritage Association of Local Government Archaeology Officers (as it was before the recent separation into two organisations: English Heritage and Historic British Property Federation England – see Foreword) on behalf of the historic Church of England environment sector and those with particular (Cathedral and Church Buildings Division) interests in it. The NHPP was co-ordinated by English Heritage on behalf of the wider sector, Civic Voice and benefitted greatly from advice and comment provided by an independent NHPP Advisory CLG Board representing a wide range of organisations with particular interests in the protection of our Council for British Archaeology historic environment. The Board’s role was to Country Land and Business Association monitor and advise on the implementation of the plan, to review and advise on the priorities of the DCMS plan and to receive and comment on progress reports. Statutory & Other Functions of a Public Nature 1.1 Aids to Navigation (AtoN) Provision Trinity House is the General Lighthouse Authority (GLA) for England, Wales, Channel Islands and Gibraltar. Trinity House has responsibility, subject to certain provisions, for the superintendence and management of "all lighthouses, buoys and beacons" throughout its geographical area including "the adjacent seas and islands...." within and beyond territorial waters up to the outer limit of the UK Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). It provides a large number of traditional short-range AtoN complemented by a mix of radio navigation aids for the safety of all mariners engaged in general navigation irrespective of who pays for the service, the size or type of the vessel, her equipment fit, the competence of her crew, or flag. The statutory authority for Trinity House in terms of AtoN is Part VIII of the Merchant Shipping Act (MSA) 1995 as amended by the Marine Navigation Act 2013. There is a separate GLA for Scotland & the Isle of Man (the Northern Lighthouse Board) and another for the whole of Ireland (the Commissioners of Irish Lights). Trinity House currently maintains 66 Lighthouses; 11 Light Vessels / Floats; 450 Buoys, and 8 Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) Reference Stations. -

DRAFT AGM MINUTES 2014 Minutes of the National Trust’s 120th Annual General Meeting Held at Steam Museum, Swindon On Saturday 8 November 2014 _________________________________________________ National Chairman: Simon Jenkins Trust Present: Members of the Board of Trustees, Dame Helen Ghosh DCB (Director-General), other staff and some 430 members of the National Trust 1 DRAFT 1. Welcome Simon Jenkins, the Chairman, welcomed members to Swindon and reflected on his six years as Chairman. During this time the Trust had maintained financial stability, increased its membership to over 4 million and increased visits to properties by 30% to over 20 million. He was particularly proud that visits to the Trust’s wider estate, uplands and coast were now approaching 200 million a year, demonstrating the range and depth of the Trust’s appeal. Operating surplus had risen by a third which had enabled the Trust to spend more on its prime obligation – conservation. During the Chairman’s tenure, the Trust had acquired a range of different properties: Seaton Delaval in the North East, Tredegar House and Dyffryn House and Gardens in Wales, the delightful Asalache house in Wandsworth and Lord Nuffield’s eccentric lodge outside Henley with its collection of Morris Minors. The Trust had acquired the last white cliff of Dover and the exquisite Llyn Dinas under the flanks of Snowdon in North Wales. The beautiful Arts and Crafts Stoneywell Cottage was about to be opened in Leicestershire too. These were all fine examples of the special places now in the Trust’s care for everyone to enjoy. The Chairman paid tribute to his colleagues on the Board. -
