Seminal recordings included: David Bowie’s Young Americans; The Rolling Stones’ “Hot Stuff,” “Miss You,” “Dance Pt.1,” and “Emotional Rescue”; KISS’s “Strutter ’78,” and “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”; Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy“; and Elton John’s Thom Bell Sessions and Victim of Love. Though disco-rock was a great commercial success during the disco era, it has received limited acknowledgement in post-disco scholarship. This thesis addresses the lack of existing scholarship pertaining to disco-rock. It examines both disco and disco-rock as products of cultural shifts during the 1970s. Disco was linked to the emergence of underground dance clubs in New York City, while disco-rock resulted from the increased mainstream visibility of disco culture during the mid seventies, as well as rock musicians’ exposure to disco music. My thesis argues for the study of a genre (disco-rock) that has been dismissed as inauthentic and commercial, a trend common to popular music discourse, and one that is linked to previous debates regarding the social value of pop music.

Clyde was a with his family to Washington, Webster Co MO sign painter. He was born 30 December 1907 in TN, when he was a boy. He married Nancy Ona Haymes son of James E Duke and Ida Ann Nichols, and died in Webster Co on 18 June 1871. Reese was a at Nashville in October 1973. Rebecca died at Fort blacksmith and a farmer. He died in Webster Co on Smith AR on 18 April 1992. They had two children- 2 January 1937 from pneumonia. Morgan Young a. Betty Lou Duke, b Jan 1929 was the informant for his death certificate. Nancy b. Jerry Duke was born 30 October 1852 at Green City, Hickory James E Duke and Ida Ann Nichols were married 27 Co MO, daughter of William Brumfield Haymes May 1892 i n P u t n a m Co TN. (58,Z, 169m, (1821-1883) and Sarah Jane Dugan (1834-1908), 15v,18wf) and died in Webster Co on 27 January 1937 from pneumonia. The Covid-19 pandemic started in March with stay-at- home orders, and affected all organizations, individuals and families in ways they couldn't imagine. It took creativity and resilience to survive, much less succeed. And, the generous support of our membership, patrons, and donors for which we are eternally grateful. The Society was fortunate to have started the year with a unique fundraiser. Thank goodness David Miles was born on February 14, because the timing could not have been better to celebrate his 80th with a Gala at the brand new Argonne House! We had guests fly in from some soon-to-be hotspots. It was a terrific party and wonderful benefit for us, with around 90 guests and clearing over $5,600. After that, all live events were cancelled for the season. We did have more museum visitors than expected once we got reopened in May with social distancing restrictions.

It’s so elegant and cool and -fashionable. —Nile Rodgers to Bernard Edwards, cofounders of -Chic isco snuck up on America like a covert operation. This wasn’t how it had been in the sixties, when shifts in popular music—the arrival of the mop-headed British Invasion bands, Bob Dylan’s galvanizing electric turn, the emergence of Dpsychedelic rock—were unmissable cultural events immediately accorded the status of milestones. The rock “ revolution” of the sixties, like the Vietnam War and the protests it provoked, was the object of intense media coverage. Newsweek, Life, Time, and all the rest pounced on the story with prairie-fire speed. In a blink, whole new publications, including that soon-to-be arbiter of countercultural taste, Rolling Stone, emerged to chronicle the music, personalities, and culture of rock. The major labels may have been bewildered by the scruffiness, long hair, and druggy vibe of groups such as Big Brother and the Holding Company and the Grateful Dead, but they barely paused before racing to sign them up, even when they were little known outside of San Francisco’s hippie enclave, Haight--Ashbury. Six years later, when another musical revolution was taking shape, record companies opened neither their arms nor their coffers, with the result that disco developed slowly and at first largely off the official map. By the time Vince Aletti wrote about what he called “party music” and “discotheque rock,” in a fall 1973 issue of Rolling Stone, gay men had been dancing in discos for three years.

    From Disco Revolution to Disco Demolition: Triumph to Tragedy in the Disco Era Eve Lazarski Junior Division Historical Paper Word Count: 2,500 INTRODUCTION On July 12, 1979, Steve Dahl, a popular Chicago rock station radio host, blew up hundreds of Disco records in the middle of the baseball field at Comiskey Park in Chicago during an afternoon double header baseball game. Promoted as the “Disco Demolition” the event was seen as a way to increase attendance by tapping into youthful resentment and anger about the Disco music and lifestyle. Ninety eight cents and one Disco record got you into the game. After Dahl blew up the records, the field flooded with people rioting and chanting,”Disco sucks! Disco sucks!”1 The second game of the two game double header was forfeited due damage to the field.2 Although Disco music started out in underground gay and african american clubs and house parties in New York City, by the late 1970's Disco had taken over popular culture. The 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever and it’s best selling soundtrack solidified its place in popular ​ ​ culture and extended the reach of Disco to every corner of the United States.3 Disco was so popular many radio stations began to ditch rock music and adopt all Disco formats. It pushed rock music, their fans and their identity to the margins. For hard core lovers of rock and roll, like Steve Dahl, who was fired from the all-rock Chicago radio station WDAI when it adopted an all Disco format, this was not acceptable.4 They wanted Disco to die.
