Pakistan bans groups on UNSC terror list The federal government has amended the Anti-Terrorism Act and the president of Pakistan has issued an ordinance for this amendment. The amendment has been brought to declare as terrorist the organisations that have been declared as such by the United Nations Security Council. Now the government will be able to take action against these organisations with this amendment. After approval by the president, the Law Ministry has issued the ordinance which has added an article in the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. The ordinance was to be issued because the National Assembly and the Senate were not in session. 2. Drone strike kills six Al Qaeda suspects in Yemen A drone strike killed six suspected Al Qaeda militants in central Yemen on February 11, 2018. The US military is the only force known to operate armed drones over Yemen. `An unmanned drone likely American bombed the group`s vehicle in the area of Qayfa, where Al Qaeda is active. 3. IMF chief warns of deeper poverty if jobs not created IMF chief Christine Lagarde gave a clarion call for countries to create the required environment for job creation, warning that unemployment can trigger dangers of youth radicalisation and deeper poverty. Asserting that memories of the 2008 financial crisis are “still alive and not gone away”, Lagarde, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), underlined the need to learn lessons from the recent global shift towards protectionism. 4. Pakistan-Canada talks to promote trade begin Feb 12, 2018 (today) Trade talks between Pakistan and Canada will open in Ottawa on February 12, 2018 to promote bilateral trade to its true potential. Commerce Minister Pervaiz Malik has arrived in Ottawa on the invitation of his Canadian counterpart Francois-Phillipe Champagne. Qazi was one of the most senior actors of Pakistan who started his career from Radio Pakistan. He worked for radio for 25 years. He started off his career in 1965 from a children’s programme in radio and had acted in more than 100 television plays. The Government of Pakistan had honoured him with a Pride of Performance Award in 1988. The actor gave stellar performance in many hit drama serials including Tanhaiyan, Dhop Kinare, Mehndi, Khuda ki Basti, Ankahi and many more. 6. Asma Jahangir passes away Asma Jahangir, an lawyer, human rights activist, passed away Lahore at the age of 66 on February 11, 2018 Born in 1952 and raised in Lahore, Ms Jahangir studied at the Convent of Jesus and Mary before receiving her Bachelors` degree from Kinnaird College and doing L LB from the Punjab University in 1978. Ms Jahangir was called to the Lahore High Court in 1980 and to the Supreme Court in 1982 7.
