Did you know that MOSCDC celebrates 65 years in 2018? It was founded in 1953 by Mrs. Edythe Hill, who recalled post-WWII, “It was just so difficult for anyone in Washington to get to know all the new people at a critical time when we needed to be in touch… I decided we should start a club for all wives that would serve as a meeting ground and contact point.” Find out more on our website under “Our History”!

Over the years MOSCDC has represented camaraderie and connection for military Inside this Issue: families moving through (or staying!) in the DC area. Though I’ve said goodbye to a few amazing friends this summer, I’ve also enjoyed meeting wonderful new members and look forward to meeting many more! Our annual Welcome Aboard 1 - President’s Message luncheon is the perfect opportunity for YOU to meet new people (and reconnect with familiar faces!). Our Welcome Aboard is Wednesday, September 19 at the Ft. 2 - Meet Your Board Myer Officers’ Club. Registration is now live at www.moscdc.org. 3 - Program’s Message

Carly

Hi! I'm Carly, your MOSCDC President for 2018-2019. I’m entering my third year on the MOSCDC Board and am so grateful to be a part of this welcoming community! My husband and I celebrated our fifth anniversary in July. We were both military brats and be- came friends right after moving to the DC area in high school, re- connecting several years later thanks to Facebook. He just started as a student at MCWAR so we're excited for this upcoming year. We share a love of travelling, including journeys to pay our respects at Marine Corps battle sites in France, Vietnam and the Pacific Islands. Though I haven’t (yet) gotten to experience a move as military spouse, as a Navy Brat I was lucky to grow up in all these different places like Atsugi, San Diego, Pearl Harbor, Philadelphia… I never quite knew how to answer the question, “So where are you from?” but I sure did get to know the value of a tight-knit community. My family is from Hawaii, so I consider that home! I'm a counselor by training (including two great assignments at Quantico DoDEA schools!), and continuing to support military families will always be very close to my heart. It has been a pleasure meeting new mem- Carly Ikuma, President bers and seeing familiar faces! I'm looking forward to exploring the DC area together and welcoming new friends at our many fun events this coming year. See you at the Welcome Aboard in Sep- tember!

My name is Irma Ibarra and I will be your Programs Chair for this year! I am so happy to be serving on your board for a sec- ond year! I look forward to sharing many special moments with great friends and the opportunity to make new friends. For those of you that do not know me, I am from America’s finest city - SAN DIEGO! I met my Marine while he was stationed at Camp Pendleton and we made it our home for 10 years. We have lived around the world and have enjoyed the Marine Corps life for 24 years. We have two beautiful little ballerinas and two fluffy mutts. We’ve traveled the world and enjoyed every mi- nute of it but look forward to the day we call San Diego home once again! I love crafting and DIY projects. I love cake decorat- ing, baking, and photography. I love the beach and a nice garden and since I’m not close to any beach now…I spend my days playing in my garden and growing yummy fruits and veggies! I look forward to meeting everyone, making great friends and awesome memories this year!
