A MESSAGE FROM SECRETARY OF STATE KIM WYMAN From food banks helping people put food on the table to disaster relief organizations providing life-sustaining assistance during times of emergency, Washington’s nonprofits help those in need throughout the state and all over the world. I’m thrilled so many state employees choose to give to these and many other causes year after year. It is an honor to co-chair the Washington State Combined Fund Drive (CFD), through which more than 17,000 state and higher-education employees and retirees contribute to charitable causes through payroll contributions, office fundraising events, and independent giving. The millions of dollars raised annually by the CFD is distributed to more than 4,700 charities around the world, enabling these nonprofits to continue and expand their aid work for those who need it most. The CFD continues to be one of the most successful giving programs in the country. Washington is America’s 13th most populous state according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and Governing Magazine ranks us 12th in the number of state workers. In addition to the more than $5 million pledged donations annually by CFD, our employees also logged more than 18,700 volunteer hours with charities through the CFD, saving them more than $590,000 in labor costs. The dedication of our employees is remarkable, and I look forward to seeing what CFD does in the coming year to continue improving the lives of those in need. I promise to continue and promote this inspiring legacy of generosity. Thank you to all of our wonderful donors and volunteers for your determined efforts and generous contributions. Words cannot fully express how grateful we are for your selflessness. Sincerely, KIM WYMAN Secretary of State WASHINGTON GIVES WASHINGTON GIVES Empowering Washington public employees, retirees and higher education faculty to strengthen our communities through the funding and support of charities. Our partnership with WSECU broke records for another amazing year during the CFD’s First Week to Give. Donors raised more than $76,000 to member charities during the first week of the Annual Giving Campaign and logged 93 volunteer hours, saving charities more than $2,000 in labor costs. The promotion gave a $5 Starbucks card to any state employee who either started a new donation, or increased their current donation by $5 or more. They could also qualify by submitting one hour of volunteer-time during that week. Thank you to everyone who participated in the First Week to Give! 2019 SPORTS ONLINE AUCTION The CFD Sports Online Auction continues to be one of the top promotions held by the CFD. Thanks to our amazing donors, the CFD Sports Online Auction raised $2,495! We kicked off round one with Reign FC taking on the Portland Thorns and watching the Seattle Storm drop buckets during their CFD Night. Round two saw more Seattle Seahawks tickets and a strong bidding competition between our donors to watch the Seahawks as they marched toward the playoffs! Thank you to everyone for participating, promoting, and supporting these auctions!
