"we are not saying it is wrong that you do porn. It is not. Just do not let these people fuck you. Do not stay there getting fucked." inspired Vanessa to empower herself as a porn director rather than only being control by the male director. Control of pornography means a complete location, time, and method of lming. A wide avoid of unethical directors and producers of prevention of over- exploitation and an unsafe working environment of black women. This little respect and care are because white men still look down on black women. The porn industry involves unethical care and respect for the black enslaved population, resulting from class struggles between white and black. Interracial sex is a big problem appearing in the porn industry. It is caused by racism that even white women do not want to have sex with black men, even the money is doubled. At the same time, ethnicities and races reect class struggles within the porn industry. Meanwhile, interracial sex is misleading. It generally is not applied to scenes between a white woman and, say, an Asian man. "It simply means 'a black person," says Isiah Maxwell, an African-American performer. I am moving back to history to discover why white men are objectifying black women. This phenomenon can chase it down to the history of the slave trade in the 17th to 18th century. At the same time, many African slaves (including women) were being transported to the European colonies. Women then become a slave for a white family and especially sex slaves for white men. These become the primary reason for black women's objectication for white men. Under the eect of racism brought by the phenomenon of slave trade happened in the golden and silver period of pornography. White women also look down on black men. I cannot believe this kind of class racism is still happening in the 2020s and look down on the transatlantic slave trade history. According to Vanessa's response, it is clear that ethical and unfair treatment is still facing by black sex workers. So I will go ahead with my presentation. Orientalism in Porn Prof. Jacobs introduced me to the lm The World of Suzie Wong in last semester's class, which demonstrated the 'Caucasian gaze' upon Asia and its people as exotic objects of conquest, or a toy in a sense. Similarly, in gay pornography, Asian men are performing a stereotypical 'twink' role: young, shorter in stature, slim, smooth/little body hair, comparatively smaller dick, submissive. Levy Foxx, an Asian-American porn actor representing the typical body image of an Asian twink. The orientalist expectation bleed over in real life as well. Working in a sex shop, my colleagues and I have witnessed quite a few 'white daddy' and 'Asian twink' pairs, where Caucasian men act as the classy, high- earning role of a master/dominant character, while the Asian is often well-groomed, amboyant yet subservient to his 'daddy'. Back to gay porn. Asian porn actors seldom get to play the 'top' (insertion-end of penetrative anal sex) role, regardless of the build of their bodies. Most Asian actors are considered 'versatile' at best, and 'bottom' for the most part. Tristan Tran, a beefy, Asian top who is often requested to act the bottom role regardless of his body build and preferred sexual position. Cody Seiya, an Asian-American porn actor who is versatile but is often questioned on his ability to be on the insertion end of anal sex. The submissivity of Asian actors is not only in sexual positions, but also in their expressivity. Compared to European/American bottoms who moan/scream loudly, swear, and otherwise express a range of emotions during penetrative sex, Asian actors often moan softly and reserved, regardless of if they were in great pain or pleasure. It is also more common for Asian bottoms to not ejaculate in porn, while their Caucasian counterparts almost always cum in the end. While we have been critical on whether ejaculation equates to orgasm, I would still interpret the lack of ejaculation of Asian porn actors as a sign of how the Asian body is viewed as a literal object for the sexual pleasure of its user. Jay Ell (right) is one of such example. His porn performance always puts him in a submissive role, and he never ejaculates on screen. Peter Fever, a Production House Trying to Change the Narrative Perceiving the stereotypical Asian image in gay porn, Peter Le, a Vietnamese-American underwear model started PeterFever.com in 2009 'to introduce sexy, muscular and masculine Asian American men to the world', which initially only included his own strip-teasing and masturbation videos, but slowly developed into an Asian-actor-centric production label that attracts Asian porn actors from across the world. Peter Le, the model who started the biggest Asian-centred gay porn production label in the US. Living up to his claim, Peter Le recruited numerous Asian porn actors, rst from the US, and later from Mainland China, Taiwan and other Southeast Asian countries as well. The label showcases men of dierent builds, from slim and lean to muscular and beefy. Asian actors are also not conned to the bottom role, where the label also recruit Caucasian models to act as the receiving end of penetrative sex. Damian Dragon (left) penetrating Sir Jet (bottom) in Peter Fever's "Gayvengers" series. To be critical, though, while porn produced by Peter Fever subverts Asian's role in pornography, it is also perpetrating the stereotypical image of stronger tops against slimmer bottoms, where Asian actors who perform the penetrating role are visibly more muscular than actors that are more on the bottoming side. The (White) male gaze treats exoc bodies as eroc; there are misrepresentaon, exploitaon and coercion especially when it comes to inter-racial pornographies. Thus, there has been influence from Black feminism in porn industry, to reclaim the sexual capital and power of Black female bodies; and there have been more ethical Black feminist porn producers/actresses. I think there has indeed been improvement in racial equality in media, one of the examples is that there are more diverse and comprehensive representaon of Black people in mainstream/commercial film industry, such as Black Panther and Little. However, I think that the stereotypes and inequality are sll present. And the advocacy from feminism has to have stable financial ground to pracce the theories, parcularly in sex industry. The arcle reminds me of a book I read before, What’s Love Got to Do with It? Transnational Desires and Sex Tourism in the Dominican Republic, the author did her ethnographic research on local sex workers and European (White) clients. In her book, the author menoned that White clients could enjoy exoc sexual service with a relavely low price in Dominican Republic, yet female sex workers there believed in the “opportunity myth” that someday a “rich” European client would fall in love with them to support their lives or to bring them to Europe so that they could start their new lives. The power dynamics between local female sex workers and privileged European clients were obvious. The author also pointed out that even though the female sex workers formed strong bonds with each other and had powerful relaonships, there was no emerge of any feminism thoughts or pracce. I think similar situaon is happening in other “sex paradises” (for instance, Thailand and Cambodia) in under-developed countries, where sex tourism is one of the most important incomes for the places. In Hong Kong, some people also have stereotypical and discriminatory opinions towards female sex workers of different ethnicies. For example, blonde White sex workers are preferred than local/Chinese workers than Philippine/Thai ones, yet Black sex workers are excluded/invisible in Hong Kong sex scape. I think the hierarchy of different ethnicies is resulted from the historical background of colonialism, imperialism and capitalism. [Prices of sexual services in red-light district in Hong Kong (mainly in Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei), the prices of foreign girls (in the first picture it says Russian, but we can't really know, I think they can be White girls from any countries) are much higher than local girls or Mainland Chinese ones, and Malay/Philippine female sex workers (those with darker skin colours) are with lowest prices] (Post is Read) Thread: Posted Date: March 15, 2021 11:08 PM Wk10 Reections on Mireille Miller-Young Status: Published Post: RE: Wk10 Reections on Mireille Miller-Young Author: It is just all about variety After reading this article, I want to know if that "Black people are stereotyped as gangster" is really so common and mainstream, so I immediately logged into pornhub and searched with "gang" as a keyword, but the results were those actors who played the gangster role have very diverse races, including white skin, dark skin, and yellow skin.

  • Post-Exotic Pornography Or What´S Color Got to Do With
Post-Exotic Pornography or What´s Color Got To Do With It? On the Problematics of Representation in Ethnic Pornography and a few Interventions by Queer_Feminists of Color. Whatever ones positon on porn is: One has to realize, that since the developments of the last years, queers and feminists can look at pornography at least a little bit different. Even though the power of mainstream pornography has been continuing and the multiple alternatives posed by genres like queer porn, feminist porn, alt porn and postporn obviously don´t have the influence to pose a real threat to the majoritarian structures of the industry, people with queer desires, bodies and fetishes have entered the frame now since quite some time. In the year 1990, Annie Sprinkle, under guidance of her lover Wink von Kempen, did stage the piece „Post Porn Modernist“. Instead of arousing the audience with a repetition of intensified affects, overstyled bodies and objectified women, „Post Porn Modernist“ was able to deconstruct the clichés of mainstream pornography including its various stereotypes and overcome the normative dimension of sexuality for a vision that included critique and irony, distanciation and transformation. Like other performance artists before her, Sprinkle used the personal narrative and forms of storytelling as a central ingredient for her piece. But what she provided was not only a herstory of her own life, which can be described as a rollercoaster-ride through all possible variations of sexwork, but also a genealogy of the porn genre itself. When Sprinkle became older she didn´t just end her career, like many colleagues before her.

One type of origin myth is the cosmogonic mythwhich describes the creation of the world. However, many cultures have stories set after the cosmogonic mythwhich describe the origin of natural phenomena and human institutions within a preexisting universe. Every origin myth is a tale of creation: origin myths describe how some reality came into existence. The distinction between cosmogonic myths and origin myths is not clear-cut. A myth about the origin of some part of the world necessarily presupposes the existence of the world—which, for many cultures, presupposes a cosmogonic myth. In this sense, one can think of origin myths as building upon and extending their cultures' cosmogonic myths. In some academic circles, the term "myth" properly refers only to origin and cosmogonic myths. For example, many folklorists reserve the label "myth" for stories about creation. Traditional stories that do The Origins of the Worlds Mythologies focus on origins fall into the categories of " legend " and " folk tale ", which folklorists distinguish from myth. According to historian Mircea Eliadefor many traditional cultures, nearly every sacred story qualifies as an origin myth. Traditional humans tend to model their behavior after sacred events, seeing their life as an " eternal return " to the mythical age.

  • Gender, Sexuality and Ethnicity in Contemporary France
Immigration and Sexual Citizenship: Gender, Sexuality and Ethnicity in Contemporary France Mehammed Amadeus Mack Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2012 © 2012 Mehammed Amadeus Mack All rights reserved ABSTRACT Dissertation Title: “Immigration and Sexual Citizenship: Gender, Sexuality and Ethnicity in Contemporary France” Mehammed Amadeus Mack This dissertation considers discourses bearing on the social dynamics of immigration and postcolonial diversity in contemporary France in light of their interconnections with issues of sexuality and assimilation. Synthesizing and building on recent work by anthropologists, sociologists and cultural theorists it explores the current debate over French identity--a debate that has to a considerable extent revolved around the impact of recent postwar immigration to France and the "integration" of immigrants on the cultural level, and of which a recent symptom has been the Sarkozy government's launch of a public national debate about "l'identité nationale" (national identity). Overall, my project focuses on the intermingling of the cultural and the political in cultural representations of immigrants and their descendants. Specifically, I consider the highly charged terrain of the representation of sexuality. In the discourse on laïcité (secularism) and integration, gender norms and tolerance of homosexuality have emerged as key components and are now often employed to highlight immigrants' "un-French" attitudes. I argue that, as French and immigrant identities have been called into question, sexuality has constituted a favored prism through which to establish the existence of difference. Through the study of cultural representations of immigration, I will explain how the potential of immigrants and their descendants to assimilate is often judged according to the "fitness" of their attitudes about sexuality.

In his analysis, transracial identities generate uneasy resonances with not only the dark histories of racial passing, but also the contemporary realities of racial oppression. How the transgender experience opens up new possibilities for thinking about gender and race In the summer of , shortly after Caitlyn Jenner came out as transgender, the NAACP official and political activist Rachel Dolezal was "outed" by her parents as white, touching off a heated debate in the media about the fluidity of gender and race. Ja Du, a trans woman who was born Caucasian but now considers herself Filipina, created a Facebook page and community for others who self-identify as transracial. The use of the term to describe changing racial identity has been criticized by members of the transracial adoption community. Transgender identities have moved from the margins to the mainstream with dizzying speed, and ethnoracial boundaries have blurred. This is a timely, judicious, and tremendously thoughtful and learned investigation into present-day debates. Mail address P. Rogers Brubaker. The New York Times. By rethinking race and ethnicity through the multifaceted lens of the transgender experience—encompassing not just a movement from one category to another but positions between and beyond existing categories—Brubaker underscores the malleability, contingency, and arbitrariness of racial categories. • African History Teaching in Contemporary German Textbooks
African history teaching in contemporary German textbooks African history teaching in contemporary German textbooks: From biased knowledge to duty of remembrance1 Elina Marmer Papa Sow University of Hamburg University of Bonn Department of Education Center for Development Research (ZEFa) Germany Germany [email protected] [email protected] Abstract In early colonial times, European scientists explained and justified the aggressive and devastating expansion of Europe into nearly every corner of the world. Africans, for example, had been dehumanized, infantilized and bereft of history. The legacy of this manipulative enterprise can still be observed in various discourses of Africa in Western media and education. Induced into the Western cannon by Hegel, the notion of unhistorical Africa persists to the present day. Which role does contemporary education play in the manifestation of this ignorance? This paper analyses the role Africa occupies in German history textbook narratives. In only one of four textbook series, the existence of African history before the European “discovery” (the term is literally used by the books) is merely acknowledged. Others would not even explicitly (by text or maps) place Ancient Egypt in Africa, in accordance with Hegel. Pre-colonial Africa is absent from text, it can be sometimes found on the maps as a passive receiver of conquest or trade. The post-colonial history is largely reduced to the explanations of why Africa is “poor”. African sources and history archives are rarely used, priority is given to German or other Western sources. We argue that this persistent marginalization of Africa and Africans throughout the history curriculum in Germany needs to be urgently addressed by history educators and policy makers.
