Property Butterfly Cottage is a most attractive detached Grade II Listed period country residence built with a mix of stone and brick external elevations under a thatched roof. Originally a pair of farm workers’ cottages, one of which is thought to date back to the early 18th Century and the other to the early 19th, the property has been extended at various times since and altered so as to form one good-sized family home with extensive light and airy accommodation that allows for versatility as to how it is enjoyed.

In more recent years Butterfly Cottage has undergone a thorough programme of refurbishment and modernisation by the current owner with a great deal of consideration taken to retain and indeed, enhance the intrinsic period character and charm. The works also included the construction of a substantial outbuilding. The result of these improvements is the creation of a really lovely edge-of-village house ideal for use either as a primary home or weekend retreat with many of the rooms having lovely views over the gardens and the countryside of the Wylye Valley beyond.

The accommodation is arranged over two levels and on the ground floor includes a sitting room with an open fire, dining/family room with a wood burner and a garden/play room. There is also a farmhouse style kitchen with an Aga and fitted wooden units and work surfaces, a study/5th bedroom and a shower room whilst both the front and rear halls are large enough to be used as additional living areas. Upstairs are four bedrooms, two bathrooms with roll-top baths and a spacious landing.

Outside Situated towards the end of a no-through lane, a gateway leads to an area of parking to the rear of the property with lawn, a variety of trees and shrubs and on to the outbuilding. The principal garden lies on the Southern side of the house and consists mainly of lawn with paved patio areas, pedestrian gate to the lane, trees, shrubs and established hedging and is bordered on two sides by fields with the undulating Wylye Valley countryside beyond.

Outbuilding Architect designed to carefully blend modern building standards and contemporary multi-use needs with a style complimentary to the rustic setting, the large outbuilding is of solid construction but with timber external cladding to give it the look of a traditional barn. The lower level consists of garaging with twin doors, a shower room and lobby/kitchenette area with a spiral staircase leading up to the spectacular open plan studio space with a high vaulted timbered ceiling, wooden flooring, wood burning stove and views over the neighbouring countryside. This building lends itself to be used for a number of purposes such as a work/hobbies/games/art facility or has the potential to be converted into additional living space.
