Kootenay got the go-ahead goal to start the third and hit the empty Raiders net late in the game. They added extra insurance with 45 seconds to play to seal the deal. 20-year-old goaltender Cole Cheveldave stopped 29 of 32 shots faced in a losing cause. VS THE BRONCOS: The Raiders have a 2-3-1-0 record against their rivals from Swift Current this season, scoring a 3-2 shootout victory in the last meeting between the two clubs on January 24th in Swift Current. 18-year-old defenceman Josh Morrissey leads Raiders skaters with 4 points in the season series, while 16-year-old centre Matteo Gennaro has a team-high plus-3 rating. The Broncos and Raids will conclude their season series on February 17th in Swift Current. BLUELINE BLASTING: 18-year-old defensemen Josh Morrissey has taken over the goal scoring lead by defenceman on the WHL this season, with 17 goals. Morrissey’s 17 goals this season are tied for 4th by a defenceman in one campaign in Raiders history. He is currently tied with Dean Kolstad and Nick Schultz, one goal behind Dave VanDrunen’s season best of 18 and 2 behind Mark Adelan’s total of 19. Emanuel Viveiros hold the record with 22 in 1985-1986. CONSISTENCY IS KEY: 18-year-old centre Leon Draisaitl has recorded a point in all but 7 of his 43 games played this season, including a team-high 12 game consecutive point streak. A CLOSE RACE: 17-year-old forward Reid Gardiner and 19-year-old right-winger Dakota Conroy are tied for the team lead in goals with 20 apiece, just one ahead 18-year-old centre Leon Draisaitl while 18-year-old defenceman Josh Morrissey sits 3 back with a total of 17. RAIDERS RANKED: 18-year-old centre Leon Draisaitl has been ranked 2nd among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting Service’s recent Midterm rankings for the 2014 NHL Draft, making him the highest ranked player in the WHL.

  • Jets Forced to Return Home After Real Whiteout Closes Minneapolis Airport
Winnipeg Free Press https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/hockey/jets/snowstorm-closes-minneapolis-airport- forces-jets-plane-to-land-in-duluth-479777143.html Jets forced to return home after real whiteout closes Minneapolis airport By: Mike McIntyre It was a white out on the highway near Monticello, Minnesota this morning. Free Press photographer Trevor Hagan was on his way to Minneapolis to cover the Jets/Wild playoff series. They've handled the Minnesota Wild in the first two games off their playoff series, but the Winnipeg Jets have proven to be no match for Mother Nature. A record-setting spring snowstorm meant the Jets were unable to land in Minneapolis Saturday afternoon and forced the charter flight to be diverted to Duluth, 250 kilometres northeast. After sitting on the tarmac for a couple hours waiting to see if an opportunity to get into the Twin Cities might open up, a decision was made to turn the plane around and head back to Winnipeg by late afternoon. All planes were grounded at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport for much of the day as the area was under a blizzard warning, with some estimates of more than 30 centimetres of snow. The Jets will now fly out of Winnipeg Sunday morning, which is a major change to normal game- day routine. The puck is set to drop for Game 3 at 6 p.m. in St Paul, with the Jets up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series. Winnipeg held a brief practice and media availability Saturday morning at the Bell MTS Iceplex, moving up the time because of the storm system.

PREGAME NOTES 2019 TIM HORTONS NHL HERITAGE CLASSIC WINNIPEG JETS vs. CALGARY FLAMES MOSAIC STADIUM, REGINA, SASK. – OCT. 26, 2019 JETS, FLAMES FACE OFF OUTDOORS The Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames face off tonight in the 2019 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic (10 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CST, CBC, SN1, CITY, TVAS2, NBCSN) – the League’s 28th regular-season outdoor game and fifth in the Heritage Classic series. The Jets and Flames each have participated in one prior outdoor game, both under the Heritage Classic umbrella. Winnipeg played host to the 2016 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at Investors Group Field, falling 3-0 to the Edmonton Oilers. Nine Jets players who appeared in that game remain with the team: Kyle Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers, Connor Hellebuyck, Patrik Laine, Adam Lowry, Josh Morrissey, Mathieu Perreault, Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler. Current Calgary goaltender Cam Talbot started for Edmonton in that contest, stopping all 31 shots he faced for the third shutout in outdoor NHL game history. Current Jets forward Mark Letestu scored the winning goal (while shorthanded), as a member of the Oilers. And current Flames forward Milan Lucic recorded two penalty minutes for Edmonton. Calgary served as hosts for the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at McMahon Stadium, defeating the Montreal Canadiens 4-0. Two players who appeared in that game remain with the Flames: Mikael Backlund and Mark Giordano. Overall, the Jets feature 11 players who have participated in a prior outdoor NHL game (minimum: 1 GP in 2019-20), while the Flames have four. Talbot leads that group with four such appearances, though he served as a backup goaltender for three of them (2014 SS w/ NYR [2 GP], 2019 SS w/ PHI).

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips January 7, 2017 Jets ride high-octane offense into matinee vs. Sabres Associated Press January 6, 2017 BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Winnipeg Jets have gotten off to an explosive start to the new year, and they're looking to end a three-game road trip on a high note Saturday when they take on the Buffalo Sabres. The two teams will meet in a matinee game at 1 p.m. After ending 2016 with back-to-back losses, Winnipeg's offense has been electric in 2017. The Jets (19-19-3) picked up a 6-4 win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday and a 4-1 victory over Florida one day later. "It feels really good. It's what we wanted to do on this road trip and we're off to a great start," center Bryan Little told the team's website. "We're getting rewarded offensively for playing the right way. We're not cheating for our chances, we're playing a simple game and we're taking advantage when we do get those chances." The Jets have benefited from balanced scoring across their top lines. Little had two assists in the 4-1 victory over the Panthers. Nikolaj Ehlers has eight goals in his last eight games, while rookie sensation Patrik Laine has continued his outstanding campaign with five points (two goals, three assists) in the two-game win streak. "It's been six games since we've been pretty close to the lineup that we thought we'd start the season with," Jets head coach Paul Maurice said.

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips January 22, 2018 Janmark, Stars beat Sabres 7-1 to finish 3-0-1 trip AP Jonah Bronstein January 21, 2018 BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn caught one of his teammates reaching for an extra chicken wing in the locker room after Saturday’s game. “Easy,” Benn said. “We’re only on game 48.” The Stars continued their midseason push into playoff positioning by closing out a four-game road trip with a 7-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. Mattias Janmark had two goals and an assist, Esa Lindell added a goal and two assists, Jamie Benn and Radek Faksa each had a goal and an assist, and Remi Elle also scored for the Stars, who return home after going 3-0-1 on the road. “It’s a battle every game and every day in this league,” said Benn, who extended his point streak to seven games. “It seems we’ve been playing pretty good hockey as of late and I think we are still only seventh in the conference.” The Stars regrouped from a 2-1 shootout loss in Columbus on Thursday night to match their season-high scoring total. “You want to be a team that can bounce back,” Janmark said. “I think all good teams do after losses. So it’s a good sign that we were able to.” John Klingberg, the NHL leader in defenseman scoring, tallied three assists and Jason Spezza had two. Kari Lehtonen made 26 saves for Dallas. “This was a huge road trip for us with how the division is right now,” Klingberg said.
