TONIGHT'S GAME The Capitals face the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Friday in the second and final meeting between the teams this season. The Capitals are 32-48-16-2 all-time against the Stars and have earned at least one point in four of the last five games against Dallas.

NOTE OF THE NIGHT Cops in the West – Pheonix Copley is expected to make his first career start against the Dallas Stars. Copley is 5-1-0 against Western Conference teams this season, with a 2.14 goals against average and a .923 save percentage, which ranks as the fourth-best goals against average and tied for the sixth-best save percentage by an Eastern Conference goaltender against the Western Conference this season (minimum: six games played). In his last five starts, Copley has posted a record of 5-0-0 with a 1.97 goals against average and a .936 save percentage. Copley’s five-game winning streak is tied for the longest of the season by a Capitals goaltender (Braden Holtby: 11/19 – 11/30: 5-0-0). Additionally, Copley is 8-1-0 in his last 10 appearances and has allowed two goals or fewer on eight of his 13 appearances this season.

TOP FIVE CAPS FACTS Streaking Ovi – Alex Ovechkin is expected to set a career high with his 204th consecutive game today (started Oct. 13, 2016 at Pittsburgh, surpassing 203 games, Feb. 3, 2006 through Oct. 25, 2008). Ovechkin's games played streak is currently the 19th longest streak in the NHL, and Ovechkin has 202 points (112g, 90a) in his 203 consecutive games.

First to 30 - Ovechkin leads the NHL this season with 30 goals, and he became the first player to reach the 30 goal mark with a goal at St. Louis on Thursday. It marked the fifth time in his career Ovechkin reached the mark before any player, all of which occurred in the last seven seasons. Additionally, Ovechkin joined Mike Gartner (15) as the only players in NHL history to begin their career with 14 consecutive 30-goal seasons, and one of three players in NHL history with 14 seasons in a row at any point in his career with at least 30 goals (Gartner: 17; Jaromir Jagr: 15 seasons). Ovechkin is now four goals shy of passing Dave Andreychuk (640) for 14th place on the NHL's all-time scoring list. Among the top 15 goal scorers all-time, Ovechkin's 0.61 goals per game ranks second (Mario Lemieux: 0.75 goals per game). Ovechkin, who is already the all-time goal scorer among Russian-born players, is now 12 points away from passing Sergei Fedorov (483g, 696a in 1,248 games) to become the highest scoring Russian-born player all-time. Since entering the NHL in 2005-06, Ovechkin has recorded 198 more points than , who ranks second among Russian-born players during that time frame in points.

Nice and Kuzy - Evgeny Kuznetsov is one point shy of 300 career points. Kuznetsov, who has 34 points (7g, 25a) in 33 games, has recorded at least one point in all but eight games this season. Kuznetsov's 2.72 assists per 60 minutes of play rank sixth in the NHL among players with at least 20 games played this season. Additionally, Kuznetsov's career 2.90 points and 2.05 assists per 60 minutes rank first among the 2010 NHL Draft class. Should Kuznetsov reach the 300 point mark tonight, he'll be the only player from the draft class with 300 points in fewer than 400 career games. Kuznetsov will become the 25th player in franchise history to record 300 points.

Go Conno – Brett Connolly scored a goal against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. This season, Connolly's 23 points (9g, 14a) are fifth on the Capitals, and is four points shy of tying his single-season career high of 27 points (2017-18: 15g, 12a) in 31 fewer games. Since joining the Capitals in the 2016-17 season, Connolly is the only player in the NHL who has accumulated at least 73 points (39g- 34a) and has averaged less than 13 minutes a game (Connolly: 11:56 TOI per game).

Seeing Stars - Alex Ovechkin has registered 14 points (9g, 5a) in 17 career games against Dallas and has earned a point in five of his last eight games against the Stars (5g, 4a). Nicklas Backstrom has earned 16 points (4g, 12a) in 15 career games against the Stars, including 12 points in his last nine games (4g, 8a). T.J. Oshie has recorded 26 points (12g, 14a) in 29 career games against the Stars, including 10 points in his last nine games (4g, 6a). Andre Burakovsky has recorded eight points (5g, 3a) in eight games against Dallas, tied for the most goals he has against a single franchise (Philadelphia, Pittsburgh) and the highest points per game total (1.00) he has against any single franchise. Matt Niskanen was drafted by Dallas in the 2005 NHL Draft, 28th overall. He appeared in 277 games and recorded 82 points (16g, 66a).

Additional Capitals Notes Back-to-Back – The Capitals have a combined record of 9-3-1 in back-to-back sets this season, including a 6-1 record in the first of back-to-back games. Washington is 3-2-1 in the second of back-to-back games this season.

Our All Stars - Capitals defenseman John Carlson and goaltender Braden Holtby were selected to participate in the 2019 NHL All-Star Game. The game will be played at SAP Center in San Jose on Saturday, January 26. This marks Carlson’s first ever selection to the NHL All-Star Game. Carlson becomes the ninth defenseman in franchise history selected to the All-Star Game. This season, the Natick, Massachusetts, native is tied for third among defensemen in points (6g, 33a), and leads all defensemen in primary assists (22). Carlson's 13 multi-point games leads the Capitals and all NHL defensemen. Carlson has led the Capitals in ice time in 32 of the 38 games this season, leads the team and ranks 10th in the NHL in TOI per game (25:22). Carlson has been on the ice for 50 goals for at five-on-five this season, which leads the Capitals and is the second most in the NHL (Toronto’s Morgan Rielly: 54). The Capitals are 16- 4-2 this season when Carlson records a point. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, Carlson's 107 points (21g, 86a) rank second in the NHL among defensemen (San Jose’s Brent Burns: 111 points). Holtby will be making his fourth straight All-Star Game appearance. Holtby’s four All-Star Game selections is tied for the fourth most in franchise history (Alex Ovechkin: 10; Peter Bondra and Rod Langway: 7; Mike Gartner: 4) and the most by a Capitals’ goaltender. Only four other active goaltenders have participated in at least four NHL All-Star Games (Montreal’s Carey Price: 5, named to 2019 Atlantic Division team; Florida’s Roberto Luongo: 5; New York’s Henrik Lundqvist: 4, named to 2019 Metropolitan Division team; Vegas’ Marc-Andre Fleury: 3, named to 2019 Pacific Division team). Holtby has posted a record of 15-10-2 with a 2.92 goals-against average and .910 save percentage in 28 games for the Capitals this season. The Lloydminster, , native is tied for eighth in the NHL in wins (15). Holtby has allowed two goals or fewer in 14 of his 28 games this season, with the Caps posting a record of 12-2-0 in those games.

Young V - Jakub Vrana's 12 goals rank second on the Capitals this season (Alex Ovechkin: 29 goals). Vrana, who had 13 goals as a rookie last season, is currently on a 25 goal pace. Vrana could become the sixth different Capital to record 25 goals over the last nine seasons (Ovechkin, T.J. Oshie, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Alex Semin, Troy Brouwer). All 12 of Vrana’s goals have come at even strength. Vrana is one of only three players in the NHL with at least 12 even strength goals without a power play goal (Toronto Maple Leafs’ Kasperi Kapanen: 13 goals: New York Islanders’ Brock Nelson: 12 goals).

World Junior Capitals - Alexander Alexeyev, Martin Fehervary and Tobias Geisser are all representing their respective countries in the 2019 World Junior Championship, taking place in Vancouver. Alexeyev (Russia) was selected with the Capitals' first round pick, 31st overall, in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He’s recorded two goals and four assists in five games, tied for second among defensemen. Washington selected Fehervary (Slovakia) with their second round pick, 46th overall, in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Fehervary is Slovakia's captain, and he's recorded one goals and four assists in their first five games of the tournament. The Capitals selected Geisser (Switzerland) in the fourth round, 120th overall, in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He has yet to participate in a game in the World Junior Championship due to injury. Geisser also represented Switzerland in the 2018 World Junior Championship, skating in five games.
