This marks the seventh consecutive season that the Avs are hosting a game on New Year's Eve. Colorado is 10-4-2 in its last 16 contests, which included a season-best nine-game point streak (8-0-1) from Nov. 27 to Dec. 13. The Avs are 15-7-2 in their last 24 contests.

HAPPY NEW YEAR The Avs are hosting a New Year's Eve game for the seventh consecutive season and for the ninth time since moving to Denver (4-2-2 record). Overall, tonight is the 17th time that the Avalanche will play on New Year's Eve, with the club going 8-5-3 in the previous 16. The Nordiques were 3-5-1 all-time on Dec. 31st.

AVS & JETS Tonight is the second of four meetings between these Central Division rivals and the first of two in Denver. Colorado won the first matchup 4-0 on Nov. 12 at Winnipeg behind a 40-save effort from Adam Werner who was making his NHL debut in relief. The Nov. 12th victory was Colorado's fourth straight against the Jets dating back to last year, which matches its longest win streak ever against the Jets/Thrashers franchise (April 9, 2015 to Jan. 18, 2016). Colorado has outscored the Jets 18-4 during this four-game streak. The Avs have won their last six home games versus Winnipeg. The Avalanche finished 3-2-0 against the Jets last year, 2-0 at home.

ONE MONTH AT A TIME The Avs are 7-4-2 in December and will finish with their third straight "winning" month after going 8-2-2 in October and 8-6-0 in November. The last time the Avalanche started a season with three straight months above .500 was in 2010-11.

50-POINT MARK The Avalanche on Saturday became the second Western Conference team to surpass the 50-point mark, doing so in their 39th game. Colorado reached 50 points before its 40th game for the sixth time since moving to Denver:

2000-01 35th game (23-7-5-0) 2013-14 38th game (23-11-4) 1996-97 38th game (23-10-5) 2019-20 39th game (23-12-4) 2003-04 39th game (21-10-7-1) 1997-98 39th game (20-8-11)

The Avs were the first Western Conference team to reach 20 wins on Dec. 11 (31st game), becoming the third-fastest Colorado team to reach 20 victories (27th in 2013-14, 28th in 2000-01). The Avalanche reached the 40-point mark in their 29th game on Dec. 7, surpassing 40 points in less than 30 games for just the third time since relocating to Denver (26th in 2000-01, 27th in 2013-14).

HIGH-SCORING ATTACK The Avs are the NHL's highest-scoring team, averaging 3.59 goals-per-game. Colorado's 140 goals overall are tied with Washington for second in the league (Toronto 141) and its +28 goal differential ranks third.

MORE MAKAR HISTORY Cale Makar leads all rookie defensemen with 29 points (8g/21a) in 31 games. With a goal or assist tonight, he would become the first rookie blueliner to have over 30 points by January 1st since Nicklas Lidstrom (35) in 1991-92. Makar notched his 29th point on Friday against Minnesota, becoming the fifth defenseman in NHL history to record 29 or more points in his first 30 career regular-season games. He joined Harry Cameron (38 from 1917-18 to 1918-19), Larry Murphy (32 in 1980-81), Mark Howe (29 in 1979-80) and Brian Leetch (29 from 1987-88 to 1988-89).

THAT'S A PLUS Ryan Graves is tied with Dougie Hamilton for the NHL plus/minus lead at +29. It's the highest plus/minus ever by a Colorado player through 39 team games, topping Curtis Leschyshyn's +25 in 1995-96. Graves has been a "plus player" in 21 of his 38 contests and has been a "minus" only five times. He had a streak of eight consecutive games with a "plus" from Nov. 27–Dec. 11, the first Avalanche player to post a +1 rating or better in eight straight games since Peter Forsberg from Jan. 2-15, 2004 (eight) and the first Colorado defenseman since Adam Foote from Feb. 19–March 5, 1996 (eight).

ALL-STAR Nathan MacKinnon was named the Central Division’s captain for the 2020 NHL All-Star Game. He is the first Avalanche player to be named All-Star captain twice (Joe Sakic wore the 'C' once) and the first Avalanche player to be selected to four consecutive All-Star Games since Peter Forsberg was chosen for six straight from 1996-2001. MacKinnon ranks fifth in league scoring with 56 points (22g/34a) in 39 games. He reached the 50-point mark in his 32nd contest of the season on Dec. 13, one fewer than when he hit the milestone in 2018-19. Nathan became the second player in Avalanche/Nordiques history to require 33 or fewer games to reach 50 points in consecutive seasons, joining Peter Stastny (1981-82 to 1983-84).

WORLD JUNIORS Defensemen Bowen Byram () and Danila Zhuravlyov (Russia), forward Sampo Ranta (Finland) and goaltender Justus Annunen (Finland) are all competing for their respective nations at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship in the Czech Republic. Annunen is leading the tournament in save percentage so far at 94.59, stopping 70 of 74 shots. Ranta and Zhuravlyov each have two assists through three contests, while Byram is looking for his first point. Byram was the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. Annunen (64th overall) and Ranta (78th) were both third-round picks in 2018, while Zhuravlyov was taken in the fifth round (146th) that year. Danila is participating in his second straight WJC after helping Russia win the bronze medal last year.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS At 23-11-3, the Avalanche recorded their third-highest points percentage (.662) at the holiday break since relocating to Denver. Colorado's 49 points at Christmas equaled its second-most at the break.

Year Record Pts Pts% 2000-01 23-7-5-0 51 .729 2013-14 23-10-3 49 .681 2019-20 23-11-3 49 .662 1997-98 19-8-11 49 .645 2009-10 21-12-6 48 .615

FRANKIE FIVE ANGELS Pavel Francouz posted a 9-0-1 record from Nov. 7 to Dec. 23, the longest streak without a regulation loss by an Avalanche netminder since Semyon Varlamov went 16 straight decisions (11-0-5) with a point in 2013-14.

WORKING OVERTIME Nathan MacKinnon has two OT winners this season and eight in his career, one behind Milan Hejduk for the most in franchise history. The single-season club record is three, a mark already tied by MacKinnon in 2017-18.

IN WITH THE NEW Offseason additions Joonas Donskoi (13 goals), Andre Burakovsky (13) and Nazem Kadri (12) all rank among the Avalanche's top four in goal scoring, combining for 38 (or 27%) of the club's 140 total markers. All three forwards rank among the Avalanche's top-six point producers as well, as they've picked up 75 points (38g/37a) in 39 games.

YOU HAD TO BE A BIG SHOT Nathan MacKinnon ranks second in the NHL with 176 shots. MacKinnon, who led the NHL with a franchise-record 366 shots last season, has a shot in 190 consecutive games, the second longest active streak (Dougie Hamilton 286). Nathan led all players with 79 shots in November, which included a career-high 12 on Nov. 1 vs. Dallas, tying the single-game franchise record set by Gabriel Landeskog on Jan. 9, 2019 at Calgary.

BACK-TO-BACK The Avs have played seven back-to-backs, going 5-2-0 in the first contest and 3-3-1 in the second.

THE MORE THE MERRIER Four different Colorado goaltenders have earned a win in 2019-20, making this just the second Avalanche team to feature four different goaltenders with a victory in a single season (2005-06).

ROAD, SWEET ROAD Colorado is 13-6-2 on the road, tied for the second-most away wins. The Avs are 6-1-1 in their last eight road contests and 8-2-1 in their last 11.
