The Paladins are celebrating in 2017! 36 years as a band & A BRAND NEW RECORD - The Paladins will release a new 11 song album of originals titled “New World” on April 16, 2017 on Lux Records! It will be available on CD and on colored vinyl, just in time for Record Store Day! This collection was created & recorded at Thomas Yearsley’s Thunderbird Analog Recording Studio in Oceanside, CA – both locations: the original 8 Track & the new 24 Track studio. In addition to the traditional “House Rockin’ Blues” sound of The Paladins, this new record encompasses sincere geo-social lyrical reflection as well as killer instrumental composition. The lead track, “New World” was composed by Dave Gonzalez and Jeb Schoonover & contemplates a vision of a world that is changing. Keep in mind, that throughout their career, The Paladins have had the liberty to cross many international borders, in peace, as artists, & travel almost anywhere. For that freedom, we are deeply grateful. The 2nd song, “Waterman”, is wrought with frustration & the tug of war between the Earth & her profiteers. Next, a familiar theme of romantic love & a lively Boogaloo beat steers track 3, “Things Keep Changin’”, back into the pocket of what the faithful come to expect from our tribal roar. Rock & roll, surf & turf country, & traditional blues are all represented from the Pals on this record. The songs also feature the immeasurable talent of Leo Dombecki on piano / organ, the genius of Laura Chavez on guitar & Laura Jane Willcock on backing vocals. The band will be touring Europe and the US throughout 2017, in support of “New World”, their first new Paladins record in 14 years. Dave, Thomas & Brian look forward to seeing you in 2017 and thank you for your friendship through these past 36 rockin’ years! They formed The Paladins, with Whit Broadly and Gus Griffin, in 1981. The band felt that the energy of Roots Rock and Roll, & the soulful honesty of American Blues, had to be the inspiration for the sound of The Paladins. The awareness of rockabilly was everywhere in the early 80’s & so were The Paladins, playing the Southwestern circuit with Los Lobos, X, The Blasters, & Hollywood Fats. The band then traveled to Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi with new drummer Scott Campbell, as a 3 piece - along with Gonzalez and Yearsley. Those first Southern tours, the band searched for the essence of authentic regional musical tradition. They played a lot, learned a lot and tightened up their sound. By the mid-80’s, The Paladins were starting to be recognized world-wide by Blues fans, touring the top Blues Festivals with acts such as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Candye Kane, Smokey Wilson, & The Fabulous Thunderbirds. The Paladins joined the legendary Alligator Records label in 1987, and in 1988, Brian Fahey joined the band as drummer as the band logged 1 million miles touring to the delight of loyal crowds on 5 continents. Their unforgettable live performances are the heart and soul of the band, where they really let it all out for all their Pals! The guys feel fortunate to have shared the stage & become friends with many of the music world’s Greats. The Paladins have continued to write, produce, record, & collaborate throughout their 36 year history. Paladins FOREVER!
