EMACS 2017 – Become a Part of the Team Welcome to EMACS! EMACS 2017 – become a part of the team Welcome to EMACS! In 2017, the city of Aarhus will host a great athletics event when we invite you to EMACS: the European Masters Athletics Championship Stadia – a competition for athletes, runners and race walkers from age 35 and above. We expect more than 4,000 participants, approx. 3,500 fellow travelling families/friends/coaches etc., along with visitors from 40 countries – just to name a few key numbers. Since Aarhus in 2017 will be all about athletics, we will need much help so that we can offer the many visitors a great experience. Besides an exciting athletics competition we are offering the visitors accommodation, social gatherings, cultural experiences – all in a festive athletic spirit! In order to complete the event and to make it the huge success we wish it to be, we expect to require help from more than 600 volunteers. Maybe you want to join us? Together we can make a fantastic event. Sign up today and become a part of the team! Mikkel Larsen Head of Event, EMACS 2017 [email protected] / + 45 28 22 64 75 Volunteers – the backbone of the event Without volunteers, there is no event! We appreciate YOUR help because both the organizers and participants know that the volunteers are the backbone needed to carry a big event as EMACS through the finish line. The competition will have its main base at the Aarhus Stadium / Ceres Park, where the facilities at and around the stadium can be used. Other than that, Viby Idrætspark will also be used during the entire event while race walks and the competitions in half-marathon will be held throughout the city. The organizer of the event is Aarhus 1900 Atletik/Motion in cooperation with, among others, Aarhus Municipality. Who can help? Anyone who wants to! There will be both big and small tasks to take care of and you decide for yourself how much you want to involve yourself. Many of the tasks can be solved without you having pre-established inside knowledge of athletics. How much do you commit to? At first you just let us know if you can help during the preparations (the period until July 2017), and/or during the competition itself (approx. July 25. until August 7. 2017). We hope that many will contribute with a great effort but considering that we need to cover ca. 50,000 hours of voluntarily work, help consisting even of just a few hours definitely count as well. At the moment, you are not committing yourself to certain tasks but you will be contacted later on for a final agreement. - a part of the team Education Get an education as an Athletics Referee – for free! Aarhus 1900 A/M, EMACS 2017 and The Danish Athletics Federation offer a number of educational activities up until EMACS. For those of you who haven’t helped us before or if you only helped a few times, a course in becoming an Athletics Official will be the perfect entry to help with athletics competitions. You learn a bit of the rules in all of the disciplines just as much as you gain valuable knowledge regarding the general procedures during a championship in all of the disciplines in athletics. This is perfect for you who simply want to give a hand. If you know a bit more of athletics, and maybe already have some fondness for a certain event, we are offering a more formal Referee Certificate in one of the three main groups: Running, Throw and Jump. With your certificate you can operate as a manager of an event, assistant, surveyor etc. in all of the events which belong to the relevant discipline. Outline of the educational activities: 8th June: Athletics Referee JUMP Aarhus 1900’s Club House 17-22 16th June: Athletics Assistant Ceres Park 18-21 18th Aug: Athletics Referee RUN Aarhus 1900’s Club House 17-22 23rd Aug: Athletics Referee THROWS Aarhus 1900’s Club House 17-22 30th Nov: Athletics Assistant Marselisborg Sports Centre 18-21 3rd Dec: Starters Course Marselisborg Sports Centre 9-16 Fee: The courses are free of charge. The Germans, champions in 2009, were not there to defend the title. Nor were the Dutch and Italians, winners of the three previous tournaments. Iceland, who had fi nished their qualifying group ahead of Germany, were making their debut. And the Swiss were back for the fi rst time since 2004. Only three of the 2009 fi nalists were in Denmark – and the surprises continued when the ball started rolling at the four venues in Jutland. In Group A, the hosts – an unknown quantity as they had not needed to play their way through qualifying rounds – opened with a 1-0 loss against the Swiss, despite fervent support from a huge crowd in Aalborg.
