To exemplify this relationship, this research project uses a case study of the Bicycle Ring (Cykelringen) in Aarhus, Denmark. Four corners around the Bicycle Ring, with different characteristics in the Built environment, are explored further. In cities with a growing population, such as Aarhus, moBility is an important focus because the amount of travel will increase, putting a higher pressure on the existing infrastructure. In Aarhus, cycling is used as a tool to facilitate the future demand of travel and to overcome the negative externalities associated with car travel. The outcome of improved mobility and accessibility is seen as complementary to a good city life in puBlic spaces. Therefore, it is argued that cycling is a tool to facilitate people friendly environments. Recently, the City of Aarhus has implemented cycle streets around the Bicycle Ring as a solution to improve the conditions around the ring.

In 2017, the city of Aarhus will host a great athletics event when we invite you to EMACS: the European Masters Athletics Championship Stadia – a competition for athletes, runners and race walkers from age 35 and above. We expect more than 4,000 participants, approx. 3,500 fellow travelling families/friends/coaches etc., along with visitors from 40 countries – just to name a few key numbers. Since Aarhus in 2017 will be all about athletics, we will need much help so that we can offer the many visitors a great experience. Besides an exciting athletics competition we are offering the visitors accommodation, social gatherings, cultural experiences – all in a festive athletic spirit! In order to complete the event and to make it the huge success we wish it to be, we expect to require help from more than 600 volunteers. Maybe you want to join us? Welcome to the top of City Tower, which is Aarhus’s tallest and most prominent commercial building with a fantastic view. The construction of the building was completed in the summer of 2014. In August 2014, our 130 Aarhus employees moved into the premises totalling 4,500 m2 and occupying the 14th, 15th, 16th and 22nd floors of the building.
