Situation Achaban House lies half a mile east of Fionnphort on the A849 which runs the length of Mull and connects Tobermory in the north with Fionnphort in the south. Mull is one of the most popular of the Inner Hebridean Islands due to the diversity and beauty of its scenery ranging from the heights on Ben More, the only Munro within the Inner Hebrides, to the white sandy beaches, abundant flora and fauna to be found on the south western peninsula of the Ross of Mull. The village of Fionnphort (‘White Port’) is the centre for a fairly scattered community and also the ferry terminal for the historic island of Iona which lies a short distance across the Sound. It has a general store/post office/hardware shop, a pub with restaurant, and an award-winning seafood restaurant. Further facilities, including medical services and a primary school, are located in nearby Bunessan, the principal village on the Ross. Whilst many residents and visitors to the Island come simply to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and wildlife. the variety of countryside and the sparseness of population makes sporting on Mull particularly attractive with some of Scotland’s finest stalking being available as well as fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout and notable sea fishing. Mull has two nine hole golf courses, one at Craignure and the other at Tobermory and there is also course on Iona. Three ferry routes operate throughout the year: between Oban and Craignure; between Lochaline, on the Morvern Peninsula, and Fishnish; and from Kilchoan, on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, to Tobermory. Description Achaban House is a substantial mid-19th century former manse, set within almost 6 acres of land in a prominent position adjacent to Loch Pottie and close to the village of Fionnphort, at the south- western end of the Isle of Mull. The main house has accommodation on two floors which includes a spacious reception hall giving access to a drawing room with open fireplace and bay window overlooking the front garden towards Loch Pottie. There is a large dining room and L shaped kitchen leading to a separate utility room with door to the rear. Also on the ground floor is a large bedroom with en suite shower room and a cloakroom. The house is currently used as a guest house and there is self -contained “owners accommodation” comprising of sitting room, 2 bedrooms, bathroom and study. On the first floor there are a further 5 bedrooms, 4 of which have en suite shower rooms, and a bathroom. Within the garden to the rear is Achaban Cottage which has a sitting room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. This cottage is currently vacant but would be suitable as a holiday let and has in the past been used for longer term lets and as a granny annex. The Byre is a further cottage which has been created from former outbuildings and offers very comfortable accommodation including sitting room with dining area, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a shower room.
